    Re: Tanking Expectations

    I was muling the other day and was (blindly) invited into a dunes pickup, it was nowhere near peak time and the group was a bit of a mix anyway, but a nin/mnk was invited to the party and I thought that would make a great DD - I spoke to the guy for a while during the next couple of parties and he said the combo was great fun, but that he'd been getting flack for /mnk as everyone wanted him to tank.

    He was subsequently kicked from the original party (even tho obviously invited after his jobs were seen to be useful) all because a couple of the other members complained that he couldnt voke.

    I feel very sorry for people who just want to play NIN as a dd, its a shame that the job has become a tank-only class in lots of peoples eyes, although dont get me wrong - NIN tanks rock, and do tank very well, Ill never play a tank class however, although I was looking forward to NIN.

    Anyway, if people give you grief for not /war, just roll with it - the unorthodox sub will probably count against you, but if you are adamant about playing without provoke then you'll just have to get used to it.

      Re: Tanking Expectations

      Last night, while I was baby sat in solo play, I got my NIN from 16-19.7 in under two hours. To people who say that NINs can't DD, maybe you should try other methods. Dishing out 100+ Retsu at will and putting out 40-65 per shuriken every 4 seconds (At 18+) on T "flat 200" mobs is nothing to sneer at. Then you look at how your damage will scale down as you fight ITs, but so will every other melee out there. I still think that NINs can DD, but too many El Cheapo NINs exist (And even when I was babysat, I still burned through 2.5 bags of shihei and popped elemental debuffs here and there)

        I didn't realize a lot of people were saying NIN can't DD. I know I certainly managed to do so using the same method you did. But then again, most folks don't take the time to learn the ropes, and have no interest in pushing their jobs to full potential. You know, becuase it's just a game, so why bother?

          It's a general view by many players I've come across. It's a sole reason they can't be bothered to carry DD gear. Also, what amuses me are NINs on the opposite end of that spectrum, who are either posers for have no clue on what they're doing when they have "Windower" macros and swapping every single piece on their body for just about every single thing they do. I find it hilarious when they do this on Ni: casting and still get interrupted when the monster has slow and they're hasted. Just cracks me up all the time.

            Yeah, most NIN that I have partied with seem to share the same view that they just aren't capable of DD. They're wrong of course, but nothing I can say will convince them otherwise.

              Re: Tanking Expectations

              Aye, leveling both DRK & NIN to 75, I had always though NIN wasn't that great of a DD until around lv 60 DRK, at that point I started using parsers and noticed the NINs I pt'd with were dealing just under 300 less than standard melee. When I checked to see how much PLDs were doing, they were barely doing 250-300 dmg per battle, slightly more when they used WS.

              I ofcourse was above average D:! No seriously... I had a ton of gear when I lvl'd NIN so it made it a lot easier for me to act as a combo dd/tank... rare that I fell more than 200 dmg behind highest DD of the PT. Also, with all my dmg buffing me, made PTs with RNG okay until catos went zerk and RNG uses slug shot then zomg teh 2000 dmg slug shotz and mine eyeez sturt bledding gahhh THE HATE THE ENMITY ZOMG ><;;;

              But yeah, 60+ I've also noticed DD NINs hold hate better than PLD (from my DRK's PoV even, as well as a random PT as NIN with PLD tank... at that lvl, I dont know why... don't ask... I've been in a merit PT with PLD trying to DD on puks... go figure).

                Unfortunately, most post-60s NINs don't know how to DD. They think DD is swapping a Haubu+1 in on Blade:Jin. That is not DD. That's just macro swapping.

                Anyway, there's bound to be volumes of text dedicated to creating the ultimate DD+Tank NIN, but all in all, I can say with confidence that 80% of post-60s NINs just downright suck. Plenty of RMT action as well. Kinda makes the good NINs look pretty bad when they turn on their flag for invites pre-70sh...

                  Well, I dunno about your server, but on Kujata it seems the amount of NIN with the grasp of DDing is large. The only NIN who don't go DD once in a while if not all the time are the gil sellers really... the people who sit around, in the same spot, camping the same monster, for months, and months, and months at a time (current group finally gave up following my LS and stuck to amemet, they've been at amemet since December >_>... a-holes).
