  • Ninja Merit Question

    Hello,

I have currently been leveling Ninja and I am loving it. (Sometimes when the party is
rough I can feel the gil flying out of my pockets but meh) I am planning on taking
Ninja to 75 (I have my O'hat, a Boxer's Mantle, Senji, and almost enough money
for a SH waiting or it) and my current level is 49 almost 50.

I have a few merits to spend and was wanting to use them on Ninja. My question is
what should I spend them on or what did you wish you could have had merited
when you leveled ninja as your first job to 75? (I currently have 2 merits, and I
am close to getting a 3rd). I did a search for Ninja merits but I couldn't really
find what I was looking for, so please forgive me if there is an existing thread.

My initial thinking was to either merit evasion or enmity, and I was leaning towards
enmity because it would help both Ninja and Paladin. Last night I wasn't evading
very well in my party and holding hate great, so now I am not sure. Keep in mind
I can only merit stuff a Paladin can merit. Also, keep in mind I want to merit things
that will help me greatly in my leveling from 50-75, whereas a lot of people will
merit ninja to increase their ability to merit faster (at least this is what I think)

    </salute>
Thanks in advance for any help and sorry for the semi wall of text

    Re: Ninja Merit Question

Most people will say do Katana>Crit+>Evasion>Enmity. Maxing each out before moving onto the next one.

I myself just start putting them wherever I want to, depends on how I feel at the time. SO I have merits in most everything, except none are maxed out. Could be if I was disciplined enough to just to stick to one, until it was maxed out ><

      Re: Ninja Merit Question

Well if you wanna increase your ability to tank you could either go the defensive route or the offensive route.

If you merit evasion you'll evade more and get hit less, duh.

If you merit Crit% you'll crit more, do more damage and keep hate better.

Personally? I think any melee who doesn't merit Crit% is daft. I capped Crit before I did anything and it wasn't just to merit faster. Crit% along with haste probably have the most effect on DoT in this game for melee jobs. You can't merit haste though unfortunately lol.

So you think at level 50 having 2 Crit% is better than 2 Evasion merits even if I am
using the wheel to keep hate? I like this because it also helps with my DD Paladin
set up which will in turn help me with getting more merits until my Ninja gets to 75.
I suppose I never thought of this because I have been playing defensively for so
        long in this game

I have read before that a good meriting order would be Katana>Crit+>Evasion>Enmity.
I wasn't sure if this was purely for merit purposes though, and I don't know that
much about merits but I don't think I can merit Katana skill as Paladin.

NIN is the only job w/ Katana skill, so u r right, u can't put any merits into Katana skills until ur NIN gets 75.

as far as Enmity goes, it's something ppl often think twice about. let's say u have NIN 75 and BLM 75. obviously, u don't wanna spend any on Enmity+ nor -, unless u enjoy dying as BLM or u don't give a damn about tanking as NIN. and even if u r currently PLD 75 and lvl'ing NIN, u don't know when u wanna start lvl'ing ur BLM or any job that rather wants Enmity-, so personally i'd rather leave Enmity merits untouched.

and for Crit or Evasion question, i'd say Crit first. boosting evasion at 49 won't result in a dramatic increase of evasion anyways due to the lack of other evasion+ options, as long as u r fighting IT's. u might want some at 57, when u can start using scorp harness, but what's more important is ur player skills as NIN.

            Re: Ninja Merit Question

THe whole Enimty merit thing is kinda shady. I have heard of people who had a lvl 75 WHM, took up NIN and then merited Enimty. They say no effect of the Enmity merits on there WHM because the people they party with have gear and Enmity merited already. Just a toss up really.

              Re: Ninja Merit Question

I'd honestly suggest staying away from any +enmity setup you might think about meriting. If you are a good tank you shouldn't need to mess with it anyways. And you never know when you're going to get a desire to level a support class or mage.

I am a defensive tank, I'm currently meriting Parry and HP.
