Re: is nin a good job??
nin is one of the most expensive jobs to play if not the most. ranger rivals it in terms of upkeep.
brd is one of the least expensive jobs to play. instruments can be pretty expensive but most of your spells can be bought from an npc at a fair price.
these 2 jobs are completely different.
nin is a tank and later, a damage dealer.
brd is pure support. a brd makes everyone else do their job all that much better.Omni@Remora: NIN75 RNG75 MNK75 COR75 BST64 BRD53

Re: is nin a good job??
Level bard if you are worried about costs at all. I don't even wanna think about how much gil I have spent on my NIN. Hell, if you don't mind being gimp you could probably get bard to 75 without ever buying anything but scrolls and instruments. People are so happy to have a damn bard in the party they could care less how gimp they are.Sky:O Sea:O Koga: 3/5 Melee: 1/5

Re: is nin a good job??
bard is much better than ninja is, for a new player who doesn't have a lot of money.
between those two jobs, i say pick bard.Last edited by aegina; 04-26-2006, 11:50 AM.

Re: is nin a good job??
Thats fine if thats what you want to do, but it won't be a very useful sub for either job. You'll want to go back and level alternate jobs to sub for either rng or drg. (Like WAR, NIN, and THF)I RNG 75 I WAR 37 I NIN 38 I SAM 50 I Woodworking 92+2

Re: is nin a good job??
No, it's because every time a ninja casts a spell, it uses a consumable item. Most commonly Shihei, which is used to cast Utsusemi. Utsusemi: Ichi absorbs the next three attacks directed at you after you cast it. You can cast it every 30 seconds, and usually need to when tanking. Let's say a stack of 99 shihei costs 12k, which is generous. So every 30 seconds a ninja eats 120g to stay alive. A full length party with ninja can cost over 30k, assuming you're doing the bare minimum and just casting Utsusemi, and no other spells.
Oh, but ... their equipment does cost quite a bit. Emperor Hairpin is virtually required after level 24. I haven't checked the price on my server in a while, but it's at least a few million gil.

Re: is nin a good job??
If you're looking at ranger or dragoon, then yeah. Leveling thf will be a good experience for you and make a useful sub later on.
Here's the thing. Assuming either dragoon or ranger will be your main job, you can't start leveling it until you get another job to 30. On your way to 30 with that job, you will want to level another job to at least level 15 to use as a subjob for that job. So I recommend you do something like this:
Level war to 18 and do your subjob quest.
Level thf with war subjob to 30. Get your advanced job.
Level Dragoon or Ranger, using either thf or war as a subjob. Both war and thf are useful subs, and will give you good experience to prepare you for playing drg and rng.
