first, as you progress through the game you will realize that race means nothing. anyone will tell you this.
to answer your question, elvaan nin are pretty sturdy. they have good str and vit as well as a nice hp pool. however, their dex, agi are lacking which in turn affects their accuracy and evasion, both important to nin. this can all be compensated with gear and intelligent game play.
if you want an all around solid race, choose hume. they have all decent stats across the board.
i play a taru nin. my dex and agi are nice whoever, my hp pool is what limits me in a sense. dont let race judge what you play. play a job that you enjoy first. then pick the race after that if you have that option.
elvaans *tend* to be more melee oriented. they are built for that. i use tend very liberally. once you adventure more, you will notice that elvaans can do anything. as well as tarus, or galkas, etc.
i played nin 1-75 being main tank. that just shows that anything is possible.
good luck!
race doesnt limit you. trust me. elvaans have i think around 8 less agility than taru at 75. but that in no way affects how the evade attacks. there is so much agi gear and evasion gear that you will have it spilling out your ears.
they say elvaan do those jobs b/c as an elvaan its 'easier' in a sense. its more natural but in no way a taru or hume or mithra cant be a GREAT drk. or pld or war or mnk.
to make use of both str and mnd... at once? pld? but you shouldnt determine which job you play based on stats. str is good for just about any melee job. mnd is good for whm also. but as elvaan ur mp pool is the 2nd lowest statistically. this can all, again, be overcome with equipment.
Well If you want to go with the mind route white mage would be the way to go. Your spell will have more power behind them and your strengh and hp means that you will be able to last longer against other races that choose the same job (beicdes a galka).
As for a job that uses Strengh well any melee job needs strengh. Also Elvaan are not weak on vitality so again that is why alot choose DRK,PLD,WAR and MNK. But like Omni-Ragnarok said you play want you want and just buy the proper gear. I am working to a Elvaan ranger and lets just say on stats alone they are not that great but there are ways around that. So just play what you want. You will have much more fun if you do it that way.
nin need evasion first and foremost. agility. then any nice mix of str/dex/attack/accuracy.
however, as the game progresses, say past lv. 37 when you get utusemi ni, you can change it around a bit if youd like. for the most part of your grind to 75, typically you want evasion to a point where you evade enough attacks that allow you to wear down your utsusemi timers.
drk want str/attack and accuracy/dex. you hit stuff. you want to hit it as hard as you can and as accurately as possible. other stats come into use later, like INT which can be nice when using spinslash. a weaponskill at lv. 66
again, i want to emphasize that you dont need to emphasize on stats so much
But say I wanted to do Ballista, which I want to do as soon as I am ready, wouldn't stats matter then?
Also, Elvaans have low INT and MP, which is not good for Black Magic, but have high MND, So wouldn't be better just to do PLD? Or is there something about DRKs I still dont know about ^^
If you want lots of party invites and cheap gear across all level ranges go Pld. If you enjoy sitting for 3-8 hours looking for a party while gilbuyers in superior gear get invites over you despite your skill level then go Drk.
Ninja is one of those jobs everyone can play. It's stat requirements are all over the place and having a little bit of something extra almost never hurts. Most Ninjas focus on evasion and agility+ gear, but later try to work up their enmity.
PLD benefits very little from MND. You will enjoy Elvaan's STR HP and VIT as PLD.
When I play Nin, I am a taru and I love casting spells. So I focus more on items which help with spell interuption rate. And AGI+Evasion second. I burn through nin tools like water...
Really, play what you like. There are a lot of gears as you get higher that will boost the stat you need. Elvaan BLM may not have as much INT as Taru naturally but who cares the 30 more damage Taru is doing per nuke, when you're nuking for 2000?

Statistically, the best race for NIN is Galka.
- Unmatched in HP and VIT
- Good STR
- Decent AGI (I personally don't think this stat matters but a lot of people seem to swear by evasion. The most important stats for NIN are HP and STR by far)
Stats DO matter, but the natural difference in stats between races is nothing that can't be overcome with good equipment.

Disagree entirely concerning hp and vit. Nin's method of tanking involves getting hit as little as possible, which minimizes the impact of hp and vit. If you're sturdy enough to survive until you recast blink (which can be no time at all depending on skill) then you have enough hp.
Somewhat disagree regarding str. Str increases your melee damage, which helps you hold hate better and contributes to overall damage output, but str isn't the only way to accomplish this. High agi can have the same effect if you use ranged weapons between swings, in addition to increasing your evasion and decreasing you chance to get criticaled, which is probably why people prefer it. More birds with one stone. At a point even int can be used in the same way.
Ninja is, imo, a job that benefits equally from so many stats that it can be successful just about any way you build it. Just be mindful of your personal strengths and adjust your playstyle to maximize that aspect of the job.
