  • Need some Equipment Help

My ninja is at 43 right now, but ever since I got utsusemi: ni I didn't know what kind of gear to focus on. Accuracy? Evasion? Stats?

This is the gear I'm currently using: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/profile.xml?132154. Any help will be appreciated.

And don't give me any crap about not using search, I'm too lazy for that >_> lol

My NIN is only 24 but I've levelled many jobs, my highest being 46...looks like a solid build to me. Very high in evasion and moderate accuracy. I doubt you'll be lacking in evasion, so I'd have to recommend some STR for damage if you find you need hate. You seem to be very well-funded so I'd recommend Ogygos's Bracelets (Def:11, HP+15, STR+5, DEX-3, AGI-3.) The DEX and AGI may seem to like penalties but in my opinion neither stat weighs very heavily on your accuracy/evasion. I've fought as WAR/NIN with a very STR-heavy, -DEX setup alongside a Mithran WAR/NIN and there wasn't a real difference in accuracy. We were both eating meat food and had relatively the same ammount of +Accuracy. I actually parsed this, I came out with 2% more accuracy, not that it's a big enough number to acknowledge it. You'd only lose 3 Accuracy, which is equivalent to how much your katana skill cap increases with each level...if you don't notice a jump in accuracy when you gain one level, you probably won't notice the loss in accuracy. This is all assuming you're eating Meat Jerky, by the way.

Again, I know I'm not a veteran NIN, but I hope my input helped.

It depends on the mobs really. For average attack speed mobs id say use juji gi and tilt belt. Possibly ochis if you can afford them, if not maybe republic subligar. I personally ditched most of my evade gear when I hit 40 nin, and used ochis on top of that, yet didnt find keeping utsu up a problem with elf agi.

Everyone plays ninja differently, I've come to find out. Personally, I mostly used evasion and accuracy (due to being in skillchain) until recently, where I'm experimenting more with atk and STR gear. I find stats rather unimportant until you get a decent weaponskill (ie, Jin). Jin modifiers are DEX and STR, so if you can stock up on these for your WS you'll do very decent damage.

I find a lot of NIN tanks like a combo of evasion skill and atk/STR. I got my beef with evasion skill over evasion as I honestly don't notice the difference between 10 evasion skill and 10 evasion, but that's not what this thread is about.

If you can afford it, I'd experiment a bit and see what you find most effective. STR/ATK gear will make it easier to hold hate, evasion makes rotation easy and allows you to hit more often due to casting less. You shouldn't have much acc trouble, usually... I'd only use acc gear if you miss a lot.

Erm....meant to say meat dishes, not meat jerky XD And I forgot all about the Kotes too. But Miriamel is right, everyone plays their NIN differently. The only advice I'd give you that hasn't been mentioned is to ditch the Sniper Rings if you're eating Sushi. It's redundant and you'd be better off with STR rings so that you actually hit for damage. If you're still using meat though, the Snipers will help.

I am a firm believer in Evasion Evasion Evasion.

I like to play true tank, really. I'm not so interested in doing damage and making huge WS numbers to g00gle at. I can play SAM or BLM for that!

I like the knowing the fact I can evade 4-5 hits or so in a row on average with my evasion setup. It makes me feel all warm and tingly. XD

I also like knowing that if my party gets wiped out , I can stand there and hold the mob for 20minutes until help comes. w

However, that's just how I like to play. Now, Blade:Rin can do 20 dmg. >_> SO WHAT? Sometimes on a buffed mob I hit for 0. WHO CARES!

:D I'll outlive all of you other DD's! *Teases*

i think evasion is/should be a primary concern up until 73. but you need to remember there comes a certain point that +60 evasion begins to be a little over kill as you wont see much difference btwn +40 and +60 evasion. why not devote some other equip spots to atk/str/acc to help hold hate better and help bring down the mob faster?

post 73 when you start taking down mobs that con vt-low it, all evasion is actually useless since the war, mnk, rng or wahtever melee you may be with will be pulling hate pretty easily if you go all evasion. you wont be able to tank if you do not have hate, thus making you dead weight in the pt.

i couldnt view the link the op had in his post, but i think items such as emperors hairpin, survival belt, dodge earrings, nomads mantle are pretty much all the evasion you will need at 44. if you are eating squid sushi, i wouldnt worry about acc too much, other spots you can devote to more str/atk.

1 billion percent what Omni said. Remember to buff offensive stats, which leads to the statement ==> you're not tank if mob's not swinging at you.

That said, i'm finding that +evasion stuff is the easiest change to see with the naked eye. The difference between +0 eva vs +15 is amazing. Even +10 STR doesn't yield such clear-cut results. But then, i'm not very observant, hence the invention of parsers.
