I'm not to sure but I think SE is having mixed feelings about NIN. They permit us to bundle our tools so we could re-stock once every 2 weeks if you fill up the bundle. And then, they make tanking much harder by decreasing the amount of enmity we get. Seems to me like SE wants us to stay awake during our XP sessions, and for a long time...

Actually the current issue at hand is that I believe you lose almost zero enmity from blinking a hit (vs. taking one with a Stoneskin effect up, for instance). I don't think the enmity reduction will be massive, in any case, so wait and see what it's like before you say the sky is falling.

It's pretty stupid that a ninja usually acts as a meatshield. That goes completely against what people think ninjas to be, and is a little misleading. Ninjas are supposed to be stealthy and sneak in to attack their victims, then quickly get away, not be the one taking all the damage.

For a Ninja being defeated in skill means an enemy could see through and best him in his deceptions. Historically there is no recorded actual successful Ninja assassination, at best they mostly played as decoy for the actual fighting force.
So how I see SE was trying for is a person that can pull hate quickly or easily, but only temporarily to provide like a quick breather for the actual tank or distract the enemy from going for a more vital part of the party.

Being a RNG/NIN though you should like that the monster will get off you sooner with each shadow it takes away.

I've been in several parties where the NIN is the main tank.. the actual tank : /
But c'mon. Ninja as a meatshield? What. I chose a mithra Thief thinking that I could be Nin/Thf only to have people telling me that I won't get many invites with this setup. It's a little misleading if you ask me. I'd be fine with going Nin/War but I chose a mithra for the purpose of being a Thf : / or at least playing some type of stealth role.
I get what you're saying about providing a "breather" for the main tank but I have never been in many parties where this has happened.
I'm still not satisfied, though.

I know that is the current logic that the players see the Ninja as. Right now I don't think you will ever see a PLD and NIN in the same party, mostly because the players see both as being main tanks. Actually the seriously hindering logic now that I think about it is this crap of catagorizing.
You see people placing these catagories of Tank, Healer, Damage Dealer, Support, and Extras. This logic is so flawed especially if you played a game like "Magic: The Gathering" there may of been 5 specific color sets, but if you knew each sets potential and mixed it right you could do some crazy stuff. If you didn't understand their potentials and couldn't mix it right then you ended up with these simplistic basic designs that remain very individual even though are a group.

Yah, well one thing about FFXI is the amount of classes and mixing you can do. But it always comes down to that formula, and I don't see it changing : / There isn't a single MMO that I've played that DIDN'T follow that formula.... well, besides EVEO, well you get the point.

If SE wanted ninjas to be DD's and not tanks, why did they make their main weapons so weak? The only melee job with weaker weapons than NIN is THF, but at least THF has SATA, to deal massive amounts of damage. Nothing Ninja has, even full powered elemental ninjitsu, can come close to a THF damage. If ninja couldnt tank, it would be the gimpiest job in the game. It would be like RDM before they got dispel and refresh.FFXIV: ARR - Leviathan Server - 50 Bard, 47 Dragoon, 50 All crafts, 48 Botany, 48 Miner

IMO this thing will make those ninja that do nothing but blink a little harder to live. Probably encouraging ninja to have to be more alert and use more other ninjutsu/abilitiy and more attack power to hold hate. I don't think the hate reduction would be that drastic however because as I know, all other jobs when they get hit their hate are reduced too. Pretty much puttting ninja in the same situation but not making then worse. There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,
