  • Parry + Attack NIN Mid level

I'm level 40 @1200 to 41 and my evasion is over 200 from my DRK getting smacked around. I'm interested in raising my parrying (115) and trying out a build based more on attacking. Are there any suggestions? My current equipment is as follows:

    Head: Emperor's Hairpin
    Neck: Spirti Torque
    Waist: Survival Belt
    Hands: Federation Tekko
    Body: Jujitsu Gi
    Legs: Kingdom Trousers
    Feet: Beetle +1 (Evasion)
    Ring: Reflex Rings x2
    Earring: Dodge x2

What would you suggest to help me build my pitiful Parry up as well as hold the hate by doing more damage? Thanks in advance.

If you have the cash to spend, I'd say:

    1. Eat sushi (squid's fine)
    2. Grab Horomusha Kote
    3. Use leaping boots
    4. Use drone earrings
    5. Use spike necklace

i believe that the best way to raise parry is to lower evasion and increase agiliity

also, it's a little difficult to pick between evasion and attacking, because of the item slots. if you wanted full attack, you'd have to forgoe some of your evasion/agi equipment, and vice versa, so it's up to you to find a balance.

There isn't a whole lot of flexibility at your level. The stuff you have now should last a while.

You should definitely get Fuma Kyahan, Haste+3% will make you swing faster and alos lower your utsusemi recast times. If you want more attack that bad, also consider Ochiudo's Kote. However, i do not advise ever using equipment with -evasion as a ninja. Your call.

Is it possible to raise Parry without getting hit simply by reducing evasion, or is it necessary to get hit?

          Enemy swings at you.
          - Do you evade the attack?
          - Do you parry the attack?
          - Do you shield the attack?
          - Do you lose a shadow?
          You get hit.

I understand that there are options to evade, parry, shadow absorb or block with the shield. What I meant was that if I have shadows up is it possible to parry the attack, or does the shadow come in first preference, so it would only be possible to raise parry when my shadows are down.

parry isnt something you can just go out an lvl like a sword, or a dagger. its skill is random at best, i have tried many ways to do it an none were successful. the only 3 ways i ever saw it go up were. 1. when i farmed, 2. in exp pts 3. hnm battles.

at lvl 37 your parrying caps out at 114. so at 40 you should only be looking at 123 capped parry skill. since your that close. look for food like squid sushi which will raise you agi. stick with your agi rings, to help boost the chance to parry. after that there isnt much more you can do.

an to answer your question. no you dont have to get hit to raise parry. it can be done while you have your shadows up.

Parry= Agi based, sooo.. more agi, the more chance at parrying i believe.

My parry is like 170, Nin 75, sucks, its just a pain to level.

Shield comes after shadows now though. Shield nerf hurt WAR/NIN a lot on HNMs.

Mephisto is right. The game checks in that order. It checks first of all if you evade or not. Next it checks if you parry, and then shield block and so on in order. So, the more +evasion you have, the less likely anything else can happen.

yea, shield takes damage now and shadows are absorbed before shield kicks in. parrying is definitely hard to lvl. at 67 with pld my shield is 209 and parrying is only 180ish. only bad thing about them dropping the exp requirement per lvl (other than not giving people over 51 anything for it) is that people are definitely gonna be lacking in their skills.

                            What the blah blah

If you want to cap parry follow these steps.

                            1.Get to level 75
2.Buy Hauberk or was it Haubergon gear"Which will totally downgrade your evasion"Use Parry necklace"
3.CAP your Great Katana < "Two handed weapons parry more often than one handed weapons...."
4.Focus on attack and Agi gear and eat a attack food.
"this will help you keep hate"
Now get some help and fight VT or whatever you can tank.

Presto!!! soon you will cap Parry.

This is an easy way of capping Parry.I say get to level 75 cause its very easy to tank most things without evasion gear at this level.
