  • Who here played NIN as their 1st job...

And didn't have any help from any high Lv players giving handouts and whatnot. I'm curious. It seems the only people that play NIN are ones who are 60+ or people who have high Lv friends or family members that they can farm with and then transfer money to your character (even though I don't do this; example: I go on brother's account 60 BLM, farm, transfer money to me, etc.)

Because I'm thinking about NIN but I think it might be waaaaaaay too expensive. As in, I won't be able to keep up. I like the PT invite rate among other things, and the cool factor, but I'm worried I won't be able to join it because my time boringly farming for PTs and equips. The main reason that's keeping me from MNK is 6+ hour invite-rate... that would suck. But if I need to farm for 6 hours daily and it's just as boring as running around in front of Jeuno 6 hours with MNK. At that rate, I think it might be better to play MNK since even though NIN's invite rate is higher by the time he's done farming and by the time MNK gets picked up will be the same. In conclusion: they Lv at the same rate.

Now I don't mind farming and all of that, I just don't want it to turn into the aforementioned statement I made above. Also, how are the equips? Are they normally more expensive then other melees? I hear NIN equips is most expensive, on top of that, they need to buy all those tools and SPAM them in battle in order to keep hate. Is it true you need to spam them? Other tools besides shihei is expensive on my server. Not to mention spells can get kind of expensive... (scrolls themselves).

Do you think anyone can do NIN if they really want? Do you reccomend a craft? Do you hunt NM? Do you farm? What do you do?

Do you use Shihei when farming? (Just curious...)

I just have these burning questions.

    Thanks!

Any other advice, please insert in threat. Thanks!

To tell you the truth, I had PLD over Lv. 60, in fact I had him at level 61. That made it easy for me farm most of the equips for my NIN.

Now to answer your question: NIN is a very expensive job post-37. But pre-37, NIN cannot tank for shit, sorry for my langage but it's the truth. Having only 3 shadows for 30 seconds is hardly enuff to withstand at least 5-8 blows from your adversary. I'm probably overexagerrating this but it's close to that number. The gear NIN should maintain to have is Evasion, Agility and Accuracy. Strenght is also very handy.

The PT invite rate of a NIN quite high. Take me for example, I've gotten roughly 2-4 invites on Saturdays and Sundays and even Fridays on NA and JP primetime. Even though I'm farming half of that time for the tools, NIN is still a cool job to play as. Yes, we do spam Ni debuffs to keep hate, we do spam shirukens to keep hate but I've never used this method before, I might start soon. Try to look at NIN at a job that has a lot of expertise in specific areas such as Blink Tank above all, debuffing, DD with the correct gear suck as Byrnie, O.Kote, etc, and numerous more. I believe the reason why NINs cost soo much is because we can excel in all fields, it feels like we are a one-man army. We can solo NMs and even HNMs provided you possess the correct gear, of course, and even solo BCNMs otherwise done by a full PT.

NIN is a tremedous job! I've always been one-shoted about PLD being the best Tank out there. I'm glad I was proven wrong because I would have never found the joy of being a NIN.

As for crafts, Woodworking, Alchemy and Black Smithing are terrific crafts to take up. They all help NINs in its own sense. I personaly have taken up Culinary for the simply fact of HQing Meat Mithkabob. I have friends who can craft Shihei and others tools for me.

To conlude, NIN is a terrific and truly a difficult task to master. Those who have mastered the art of blink tanking, debuffing and being a strong DD have enjoyed NIN to its fullest. Very few ever reach that goal because of the consequence it has to our wallet which I don't blame at all.

The highest job I had when I started Ninja was Lvl 34 War.
You dont need a high lvl job to make gil.

Never worked at any crafts either but like the poster above me said, Woodworking, Blacksmithing and Alchemy are good choices, Clothworking too I think is used for some, like Kaginawa.

until you get the Ni line of spells, you cant really spam ninjutsu. so youre costs until then will only be on shihei + equipment.

after that, it really does help if you use ninjutsu to keep hate. especially if you dont have a thief in the party.

rdm was the job i took to 30 and that i used to unlock ninja. so i had no high lvl job to farm and i didnt have any high lvl friends to get money either.

        if you dont like to always have to buy consumable items, this job isnt for you. i spend about 75k every 20,000 xp. around 130-140k a lvl now ; ;

I leveled whm to 30, then smn to 25, back to whm until the 50s.
Then did warrior for about 15 levels and unlocked NIN while having maybe 20k on hand starting out.
White mage can't farm worth a damn so I farmed as ninja job.

Back then stuff was much cheaper, killing air elementals and gathering herb/grain seeds to buy emp hairpin (150k) wasn't too time consuming for a level 25 ninja in a place like tahrongi. I farmed that way for ochiudos kote (300k back then), all the +3evasion federation items and so on.
WHM was useful for sneaking around/invis to get utsusemi/tonko/etc quested but that could have been done with oil/powders.
You can start this game as warrior to 30 then go unlock ninja and start playing it if you take the time to garden and farm alot.
Inevitably everyone ends up dabbling in the mage jobs to some extent for a sub to cure, warp, having sneak when doing missions or whatever.

Ninja never have 'enough' gil, unless you are maybe 75 and only have rare+ex equipments left to upgrade to - I farm every night for 1-2 hours or until I get an invite. Money comes in much faster now, but it disappears much faster too when the smallest gear upgrades are 600k+ and it takes 200k+ in ninja tool to get a level (39,000 xp to go from 70-71)

well it was actually the second job i unlocked, unlocked rng first leveled it to 7, then took nin to 18....

i had fame for utsu, and struggled despertly trying to afford shihei, but lookin back on it, it never got to the point where i couldnt level when i had planed to level.

I actually never died as a ninja till level 20 too, so i know that helps a tad with not having to rebuy supplies for a level you were supposed to have.

I recieved my very first hand out a couple weeks ago from a friend who quit and gave me 2 mil, i gave away a ton of it to mutual friends of ours and used to rest to buy an item ill never sell but isnt that great (nomad's mantle+1)

Let's see, I levelled black mage to 25, then farmed around a million gil in two weeks. Beehive chips in North Gustaberg, mostly. Started a new character, a Galka so that I could be the best at melee, took it to 31 as a warrior, and started levelling dragoon. Bought myself Leaping Boots (185k), Emperor Hairpin (200k?), and then took that to 25 before deciding I liked tanking, so then I unlocked and started levelling ninja. Took that to 37, then realized that warrior/ninja was actually what I wanted.

Went back, levelled warrior to 62, and just got plain sick of tanking invites by incompetent party leaders. By this point because of inflation I had multiplied my worth by several times. I sold most of my WAR gear and started back on ninja.

When I levelled ninja again, I was in a static party. This is the way to go, it's far cheaper. We had a thief, with Treasure Hunter II and further inflation in the economy, my worth after 31 levels of ninja with minimal farming is doubled. So levelling ninja has actually made me money, I never needed a high-level job to farm with

I dont see how people play it as there first job unless they buy gil. I leveled blm to 50 first, then other jobs. I still farm a lot, but tanking stuff and getting paid is kinda nice.

Technically you cant play it as your first job because of needing a subjob and getting to 30 on something else.
I could see why maybe some people *now* think you cant do ninja early because everything is so inflated price wise compared to 1 year ago and suspect them being a gil buyer, but I think thats not really being fair.
If you farm everyday, farm until you get a party you can keep up on expenses for the most part - it doesn't really become a huge gil sucking monster until 40+ and by then a ninja is a very quick farmer if they know where to go.

blm job isnt cheap, IMO the most exspensive basic job if you buy all your spells.

blm is also a horrible farmer.

I made 500k as a level 28 rdm my very first job.....

one LB drop, and one signa drop and bam im filthy rich...(at least i thought i was and bragged like the n00b i was to everyone who would listen...

jobs never cost more then the average player can muster up...

i admit though i leveled nin then ranger to 38, and had to quit (didnt have to quit i remember having 120k) but i quit rng because it sucked up all my gil and i LITERALLY was spending double the time making gil as i was xping.
