  • 30-37 NIN/RNG logs (long)

I finally finished getting NIN/RNG to 37, and I was able to log the parties I was in. (You can see my logs from earlier levels here.) First, I'll explain the setup I used.

    The gear: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/profile.xml?40604

The only changes I made to the gear were going from Chainmail to Federation Gi in early 30s (there were no Fed. Gis in the AH when I started), going from Dodge Earring to Drone Earring & dual Beetle Ring +1 to dual Horn Ring +1 at LV35, and occasional swap fom Republic Subligar to Kingdom Trousers, depending on the situation. I also had a pair of Reflex Rings that I wore when not in the middle of a shot; my /ra macro has a swap to and from my RACC rings.

I ate Sole Sushi during the entire time, and my Marksmanship is capped from my RNG.

In the following logs, all jobs are using fully-leveled "standard" subjobs, except as noted. All names have been changed to jobs to "protect the innocent," and in the full HTML summaries, any name that hasn't been changed was a person that wasn't in the party. (I don't filter anything, as to allow the parser the maximum possible ability to capture data.) With one exception, I pulled in all of these parties; the RNG/NIN pulled at the beginning of the 35-37 party, but he requested I take over, so I did. Also, you will notice that in some of the logs, I get an "ability" damage credit for my 2hr to send me home; to be perfectly fair, one should divide that credit by the number of fights and subtract it from my total average, but I don't believe it makes even a double-digit impact on any of these logs.

    On with the show:

(Notes: I don't know why the THF was using H2H with WAR sub; I surmise he thought Berserk was worth it. I noticed that I had the highest avoid % in the party, but at this time I didn't have the parser set to capture # of attacks taken/avoided, which I corrected for later parties. edit: You'll also notice that I have a significantly higher number of fights than the other in this log; I had the parser running beforehand and /cleared it at the start of the party, but apparently instead of just wiping the previous data, it zeroes it out... or at least, that's what it looks like from the HTML summary.)

(Notes: In this party, the DRK/WAR came pretty close to matching my damage output, but if you look at the HTML summary, you will notice that she also took a lot of damage. This particular DRK frequently stacked LR+SE+Berserk at the start of a fight, and basically tanked for the first 2/3rds of the fight, which isn't exactly mana-efficient.)

(Notes: A fairly standard party. It's worth mentioning that even with a PLD tank, I was still able to generate enough hate to regularly use my shadows, as evidenced by my take/avoid stats. Although this is commonplace with RNG/NIN, it's important to note that NIN/RNG is one of the only other DDs that can do this.)

(Notes: Unlike the other parties up to this point, this was the first time that there weren't multiple tanks LFP. Because we were going to fight big bats in Garlaige, which are just about the least dangerous exp mob in the game, I offered to try tanking through damage, without Provoke. I wore Kingdom Trousers for the duration of this party, and did a pretty good job holding aggro the entire time (see take/avoid stats). While a PLD likely would have held aggro better, I'm not sure a NIN/WAR would have, and based on the damage output of previous NIN/WARs compared to the damage I did in this party, I can confidently say that in this particular situation, we came out much better with my NIN/RNG than we would have if I had subbed WAR (which I did have fully leveled and available, for the record).)

(Notes: This was the only party of the five that I put together. When finally given the chance to parse myself against a RNG/NIN, naturally I jumped at the chance. Unfortunately, I can't claim this as a truly fair comparison; the RNG in question had a subjob that was slightly underleveled (LV14 instead of 17), and for some strange reason, he insisted on eating Mithkabobs on the premise that they increased his dagger damage. The bizarre thing was that his gear was otherwise quite good; he had dual Hawker's, and he switched between Great Bow +1 and Zamburak +1 during the course of the party (though he didn't use Acids for some reason). Still, while I'll admit that RNG/NIN will beat NIN/RNG anyway in most scenarios, I wish I would have had a chance to see exactly how close I can get against a good RNG.)

    ---

Just to put a price tag on the above, here's the cost on consumables for this venture:

~25 stacks of bullets (9k* each)
    5 stacks shihei (6k each)
    1 stack jusatsu (13k each)
    1 stack kaginawa (17k each)
    2 stacks sairui-ran (6k each)
2 stacks sole sushi (27k each)

    Total cost- ~351k

*I didn't actually buy bullets, I made them. My cost per stack was about ~5-6k, and I made enough to sell the leftovers and offset the bullet cost substantially.

I'd also like to point out that I did a fair bit of debuffing in parties that needed it; something that I would not be able to do as RNG/NIN. NIN/RNG is very similar, but has a few small differences in potential benefits. Obviously, these differences will increase post-37.

    ---

So there you have it. I'll be happy to field any questions about details I may have omitted.

Hmm, thanks for the post . The stats definitely show that nin/rng can work very well as DD, and even as tank.

That last PT with the ranger seems really strange. Despite the fact that he used Hawker's, his accuracy is nearly 10% below you. Just some damn weird people who play this game, I guess

I was eating Sole Sushi, while he was eating Mithkabobs. That resulted in him having a average melee advantage (per hit) of 1.1 damage, while I had a ~10% advantage in both melee and ranged accuracy.

Not that one needs a parser to tell that Sole Sushi > Mithkabobs post-12/8, but there you have it.

          Actually not the surpising.

Considering that the WS used for rangers have different acc hit percentages

I don't doubt nin/rng at earily levels, but the nature of range attack makes it very annoying with your "reload stun" + "attack stun" and reliablity is not as constant.

          Not to mention the cost.

Though if you are getting plvled from 22 and on, the the /rng with gun on those special levels it is very nice. Easily 3-4k and hour, if not more depending how far is the next monster.
