  • New Ninjutsu icons!

Serves no purpose in battle, but who was surprised when they looked in they're inventory after the patch, and suddenlly every Ninjutsu has an individual icon now? XD

I think its awsome, and its proof to what each tool means.

just throwing us a bone in my opinion. how about changing the icon at the top of the screen. ohh no worries i have utes up. little ninja takes 110 points of damage. wtf. " scrolls to icon" gains resistance to water damage... mumble mumble... some beach..

Today I noticed this too, its not a symbol but different color for utsusemi:ichi...

It goes from the normal green color and turns into purple. Never has done that before.

Just incase anyone didn't know, literal translations:

Uchitake (Katon's tool)=A kind of fireworks pipe, if you've seen Mononoke Hime, those pipe like cannons Lady Eboshi's men used? Kinda like that.

Kawahori Ogi ( Huton's tool)=A type of mystical fan.

Hiraishin(Raiton's tool)=A sort of Thunder rod.

Shihei (You must know it by now..)=Paper Soldier. The picture looks like a dancing hitogata (which were tiny little pieces of paper folded to resemble human shape, and were often used as makeshift puppets). The paper soldier thing is similar to hanging your coat in a tree when someone's chasing you, to make them think thats you. Then before they realize its just a "dummy", you crush them! Was known to have been used by actual Ninja's on one occasion..though it wasn't all mystical like. XD
The thing with making shadow images, or dissapearing leaving a wooden block in place is all derived from this trick.

Kaginawa (Hojo's tool)=A type of rope which Ninja's used for various purposes, they could of also used it like lassoing which would explain the "slow" effect.

Makibishi (Doton's tool); Plain simple caltrops, the little spiky things they lay on the floor to pierce enemy's feet. This one makes the least sense to me (wouldn't that be better for paralysis? ) But well..I didn't make the game.

Sairui-Ran (Kurayami's tool)=A type of early grenade Ninja's used which excreted a cloud of eye irritating powder. Usually made in hallowed out, slightly hardened eggshells. Very sneaky.

Kodoku(Dokumori): Its difficult to translate, it means something along the lines of mixing a strange concoction, which explains why its icon is a pot. It makes sense..you could use that strange mix to make a gas which could poison, or like I don't know..dip it in needles and shoot them at the enemy to poison them (I love that idea, use it in its macro. XD) Whatever you want to imagine the attack is, Kodoku's basically the actual poison mix.

Tsurara(Hyoton's tool): It means something along the lines of "Ice staves", kind of like icicles. I have to get a better look at its icon, I'll look later.

Mizu-Deppo(Suiton's tool): Literally "Water gun". Say what you want.
It could also potentially mean "Water cannon", which sounds insanely cooler ofcourse.
Mizu Deppo was easy because its the very common word for a kids water gun I've heard, but Deppo is sort of broad. It could sort of mean anything that just shoots so it could very well be like a cannon. Maybe in FFXI its a MAGICAL Water cannon that..floods things.

Shinobi Tabi(Tonko's tool): Someone mentioned they look like mismatched socks, its because Shinobi Tabi literally means "Ninja sock". Ninja's often used specialized clothing which was specifically designed to make very little noise, and they're footwear was no different. Thus the invis effect..although it'd make more sense for a Sneak spell, since its based on noise and not sight. They could of used Consealing Cloth or "Miemase Orimono" for sight instead, which was a famous mythical trick Ninja's used to pull a cloth over themselves which concealed them from sight, kind of like that cloak used in the Harry Potter movies.

But hey, like I said I didn't make the game. lol

Its interesting that all of these tools are magical effects but all the tools are all steeped in the more realistic aspect to Ninja's, sort of interesting detail about Ninja's in FFXI. You are sort of making make-shift cheat magic. XD Every one of these tricks probably has a more mystical part in some myth or story though, like I remember seeing this one old Japanese movie where a Ninja took out bat wing like fans in both hands and blew over all his opponents with strong gusts of wind. XD

Take it as you see it I guess.
