  • lvl 25 winged boots.....OR!!!

Ok so my rng is level 42, my nin is 24, i'll be 25 by tonight for sure, so i wanna get my near gear set down (i've been waiting a while to hit 25 for all the cool new ninja gear.

ok so here's wut i got so far.

    emp hairpin (from rng)
wepons i'll use the 24 kata, or two parrying knives, gotta see how good they work with a capped parrying skill
    neck- spiked necklace
earrings- none till dodge, the evasion earrings lower attack, and the attack earrings lower evasion so i want neither
rings- i switch between balance and reflex depending on my mood
    back nomads+1 (from rng)
body- federation gi(i cant pass up on more evasion)
hands- federation tekko (accuracy {yes please})

ok these are the two pieces i'm having trouble decideing on.

legs - republic subligear (ima mithra dont mind the subli's)
    +5 attack +5 ranged attack

kingdom pants- +1 vit +3 evasion (ahh more lovely evasion)

^^ i have no clue witch ones to wear, i mean honestly how i'm gonna decide is look how my beetle subli looks with the rest of my gear, if it looks fine then subli it is.

    Feet-

federation boots- +4 attack +4 ranged attack
winged boots +3 agi +3 dex

^^ also i have no clue witch one to use, im leaning towards the federation boots, only because im tired of wearing winged boots, and +4 attack could help me keep hate

Leaping isnt really necessary for NIN, just a nice touch. If you dont feel like wearing them a PT isnt going to kick you out for it

PS: Btw its orz not or... unless you're saying that you cant decide bewteen winged or, but it doesnt seem that way

yeah i meant winged or... the other hoices i listed.

winged 5 def not 3, a tad better then leaping but whatever.

I am not a status item whore, my winged boots dont even get used alot of the time (been using mithra rse boots for my rng) so if my nin doesnt need em they are going on the AH block ASAP.

I wanna keep hate, and i've based my nin playing style off evasion, i wanna go the evasion route since my evasion skill is like 100+ from lvling other jobs, and my parrying skill is like 80-90

The pants choice is more of a problem for me, i mean i dont wanna waste gil on two items, the feet wont be a problem i can buy the federation boots, if they work im selling my winged, if not then i'll sell em back but i'd only have to buy one item.

so the question is w/ hairpin and nomads+1 do i need the 3 evasion from the pants, or would the +4 attack +4 ranged attack be better for a shuriken throwing fool like myself?????

      Please and thank you =)

I'd say get the evasion gear if you cant get Emp Emp is prolly the piece of equipment that you will really want above the rest of it.

srry i guess i wasnt clear.

I'm a 42 ranger, i have emp hairpin and winged boots, have had for many months now.

of course ill wear the hairpin, ive been eagerly awaiting that since lvl 1 nin.

so your saying if i have the hairpin, then the attack subli would be better? If so thats wut i'm going for, i want my meelee attacks to matter.

Sorry i read part of that wrong, thought it said "w/o emp and nomad's +1," sorry again.

Anyway NIN itself isnt really a weak job. 5 attack isnt gonig to do an incredible difference, though it may increase damage marginally. Id say that with only Utsusemi: Ichi, evasion is betetr to boost because he have less shadows to work with. At least this is how i lvld my NIN. 3 evasion isnt going to make a huge difference either, but if you really want your melee to count using the subligar isnt going to hurt you in any big way. Go ahead and get it if thats what you want.

I use Mercnary sab for the +1 eva and fed. kayhans for +4 attack as a hume, really you dont see so much difference with +4 attack as you do with so much + evasion (well to 31), I think the 1st really fine +attack gear you can get is Och Kotes
prefect example would be to team up with another ninja( good idea anyways till 37) and have them use the + attack gear and you use the +eva and let the one with +eva be the main tank most of the time, thats how I did it with a friend, as he would voke as I casted the slow/para/blind spells before voking
the gear you listed you are already better equiped then 95% of the pre 30 ninjas I have seen and have nothing to worry about ^^

Ok last night went with full evasion gear, and winged boots (was using red curry because a friend gave me one so i could see how good they were (my cooking is at 64 ATM)

                    ...anyway CHAIN 7!!!!!!!

I have a search somment that says "American party only/Japanese no thanx" <--- why, a couple of reason, they do it, and 2. im a pre lvl 37 blink tank, i need to be able to talk to my party, ask em if they want IT++s or if we are gonna chain VTs/ITs and throw in a couple ++s every now and again for chain 4 or 5 if it comes.

..but i get an invite in english only to find its a 5/6 JP party (i dont use all JP because im in it cant be all ^^)

we got chain 7, it was great i swear for god nins are the master's of evasion, maybe because i had dex gear for my thf, and never tanked i didnt notice it, but dam!!!!!! ninjas evade ITs attacks like its easy, parrying attacks, i was in heaven, they never voked once, i got interupted a few times but taru smn/wht and wht/smn abd brd/wht healing and buffing, made DT 0.

FYI future nins of vana d, evasion gear is the way to go, you actually evade attacks, even from IT++s, omg i cant wait till i hit 33 and can actually start doing some damge.....oh man and farming, with attack earrings, i'll still have so much evasion i know i wont get hit very much.

Recently, I put "En Only" in my search comment one time, it was an experiment to see if I'd get a JP invite. Since Ninja's, and all the other "tank" classes are pretty highly valued, I wanted to see how that would go. That, and honestly its pretty damn tempting to put that there if you can.

And I got a JP invite...from someone with "JP Only" in they're search comment no less.

I responded by repeating "E Only", and this guy spoke in simple english pretty much begging me to join, since there wasn't a Pld, Nin, War, or anything that joined them aparently. I found it extremely facinating, because usually its the other way around with a western player asking a Japanese player to join desperatly despite the "JP only" thing. Its made even more amusing by the fact you almost never see any Japanese melee (even rank 10) that put "JP only" in they're search comment, except maybe Ranger's. Its always something like Red Mages, Bard's, Pld's, Ninja's, or Blm's that do it. There really is a lot of power in the desirability of your job..

You know, just goes to show at one point to a lot of players, it becomes more of a job than a game when putting together efficient parties, otherwise I don't see how really anyone would put "something Only" at all, racist pricks are a real minority, its always for the sake of "getting whats best". Not critisizing anyone because I understand why, its just something I've seen over time.

Anyways..to stay on topic, I never used Leaping Boots in my early Ninja career really, and I evaded fine. I'm sure it would help you out a lot though, but remember not to cripple yourself, a Ninja without leaping boots can still be potentially good, but a ninja without ninja tools is worthless. If you feel you can make enough money to keep up with your tools AND get these then it could be worth a try. I personally saved until I could get Fuma Kyahan, which I still wear right now. Out of all the armor slots, imo the boot options for Ninja's make the least difference as compared to body, arm, or anything else. But they can still help if you decide to give it a shot, its all about prioritizing with Ninja when it comes to equipment I think.

To clarify the whole Attack vs Evasion thing:

                          Damage = [Your STR - Enemy VIT] + D x [(Your Attack/Enemy Defense)^3 + random(-0.5 .. .5)]

Where D is your weapon's damage. While it hasn't been proven that (Attack/Defense) is cubed, it is known that (Attack/Defense) is multiplied by another factor, and this formula seems pretty accurate. Even if Attack/Defense isn't cubed, my point is still relevant; The thing is, the lower your weapon's Dmg, the lower the product you'll get when multiplying it by you Atk/Def rate. Basically, your Atk makes a much smaller difference on your low-DMG katana/dagger weapons than it would on a two-hander's. So evasion should be better. For higher damage, aim for +STR. As you can see, each point in STR basically adds one point of damage to your attacks (this is why it's said that STR increases minimum/maximum damage) and since your katanas are fast, it builds up. +4 STR from Courage Rings is +4 damage per swing, which is +8 damage between two swings if they connect.

My girlfried is a THF, I asked her to get a Gigas Bracelet (HP+15 STR+3 DEX-2 AGI-2) and we did see a difference in damage. She's going to go for a STR setup now, with Courage Rings, Gigas Bracelet, and her Mithra RSE feet for +10 STR. I'm looking forward to this, I think she could get close to my damage as a WAR this way. Of course, she'll swap to +DEX/AGI right before SA/TA.

Hope this helped clarify the whole Attack vs Evasion thing ^^

i know how str works, it works alot like INT, ima 55 blm as well.

I was just wondering if my winged boots were worth equiping, i have them for my ranger, so there was no cost invcured at the time of purchase.

I have more thene nough to suppoort ninja for where i am currently, and really the only place i skimp right now are shurikens (i know i wont hit mandys very good at level 25 nin)

I'm gonna go with the leaping, just because the added dex will do something, and alot of people are saying the same thing, attack wont help me very much untill the kote (if i even want to lose that 5 evasion that is.

what do you guys think? is the kote even a good idea, =5 evasion is alot.

I never used lizzy/winged boot, I used mithra rse feet (+str and +hp) until Fuma boots, then AF.
I was quite thankful for the extra hp because they seemed to work well when killing goblins in altepa and yhoator area near ifrits cauldron (lots of goblin bombs going off) - goblins seem to be a bit on the soft side and the +str helped damage as well.

3 Mithra are better than 1...
