I've been deeply considering lvling Ninja as I've now got my gil moving enough that I think I could afford it as I lvl it. My main character atm is a Taru but I have an alt that is Galkan and I could easily get him to 37 war and then just lvl Ninja exclusively on him. So in the long run are the higher Hp's, str , on my Galkan a worthwhile advantage over my current Taru character. As I do have goals of HNM's etc... I have a little power gamer in me.... and if HP's and Str are going to be an issue I'd rather solve them earlier then later..

Well for the most part you will not get hit once the amount of damage you take from a mob is really bad (post 37 Utsusemi: Ni). HP isnt really that big of a deal for races as NIN but it helps a ton when you do have all shadows down and can't recast Utsusemi yet. And having 2nd highest STR stat next to Elvaan will help you do more damage to keep hate slightly easier. It's more the equipment that determines NIN, the race doesn't matter as much as some other jobs would.SAM 63, RNG 34, NIN 74, MNK 54,THF 18 RDM 59. Rank 1

Galkas make the best OVERALL NIN.
They have the second highest STR and DEX, allowing for more hate from normal hits. Also, the strongest WS NIN gets (Blade: Jin) is modified by STR and DEX. When it comes to tanking Gods and hard HNMs, HP is one of the most important stats. The VIT deffinatly doesn't hurt, either.
All other races don't make bad NINs though. Tarutaru works fine.Originally posted by Luminaire

First off, the notion that Ninja's don't get hit is completely false. I can't count the number of times I have recasted Ichi and the mob quickly double attacks two of my shadows leaving me with one shadow and 15+ seconds left until Ni... or when a mob does an AoE that wipes my shadows (and better yet, Stuns me in the process)...
In cases like that, maxing evasion, HP, and VIT really help. In the case of a Tarutaru, you get good AGI but really poor HP. Not to say that a Tarutaru Ninja can't work, because I have seen it work, but a Tarutaru Ninja should be more careful on picking an exp mob, and should stay away from Bones and Weapons and Golems who do AoE attacks that can wipe out shadows.Dtec

If your Taru already has warrior to 37, I guess I'd settle for him. If not... I mean, not only is Galka a better ninja, but it can be a real struggle getting to 37 as a Taru warrior.
Just how much better a ninja does Galka make? Well, I think quite a bit. ZQM already broke it down, but let me add that the higher HP is the main thing, I think, even for experience parties, because you can't always fight crabs. Us ninjas don't have that much health anyways, and we've got low defense... you're going to get hit very hard, so that extra HP is the most useful, it lets you survive situations and recover where a Taru would be dead and the group would be thrown into chaos.
Having said all that, I like Mithra ninjas very much, as well. They've got higher agility than Tarutaru, and higher dexterity than Galka, with HP in-between, but most importantly, they look very cool I'm kinda sick of being such a big race. An 8 foot, 400 pound evasive fighter? It's a bit of a stretch :sweat:Nusayb, Galka, Fairy Server- 63WAR,

Well, even though I had my ninja at 37 already for subjob on warrior, I thought long and hard about starting a Hume or Mithra to be a full-time ninja with.
Now I feel ok, because I think Galkas look good in Byrnie/Haubergeon... but after Jujitsu Gi and Kingdom Trousers for 15 levels I was losing it :spin:Nusayb, Galka, Fairy Server- 63WAR,

I would go with the Galka if you can.
They got some of the best stats, I would have went with my Galka if I didnt like my Hume char so much.
There are some good Taru Ninjas out there and Ive seen them do good in exp PT's, and if you ever wanted to try the Nin/Blm, thats the way to go =D
But, I dont know how well they would do in the high lvls against some of the HNM/Gods where they just dont miss you.-Ragnarok-

Thanx for the input... my LS mates have always teased my that I'm a Taru with a Galkan Heart as my first character was Galkan... I have a Galkan alt atm who's lvl 20 War & Mnk so I'll prob just lvl him to 37 once the times comes....
On another note... by best estimates would 10 mil gil be enough for equipment and tools to lvl Ninja 1-75? Although I'd do the Quest for blink as 200k in AH is just stupid for a quest that can be done for 30k Zinc and a few sneak oils...
So once again thx for the input...Sadus

Firstly race doesnt make one ninja better than another. The only line here is skill, and intelligence on your equipment build.
Taru ninjas either learn to work with their smaller margins, or die a lot.
The amount of ninjas I've checked exping near me wearing a pathetic equipment setup makes me cry. These fall into a few categories.
A) Inconsistent build, they have no mind, have been told what to do, have mixed eq with no overall tone their items are geared to.
B) Has obviously sold all their gil for a scorpion harness, the amount of times I've seen someone with a scorp harness, full AF, and balance rings is sickening.
C) Just plain cheap gear.
Galka statwise, does make for the best ninja, I'm not disputing this. It doesnt make someone playing galka ninja a better ninja than someone playing any other race.55% Skill

The only time I wanted to be a galka for their HP's was when I had to tank exorays long ago, and when I got 1shotted by a terror pugil screwdriver in cape terrigan.
Personally I am more interested in the appearance of my character than most, how they look in armor, and how they animate when attacking or cast.
If you are a real powergamer then none of the things I look for in an avatar listed above would matter to you
Just remember racial bonuses are no substitute for skill.

Edit: not to disparage Taru ninjas. I see them around. There's one in my level range, also, an Elvaan. These are the two worst races for the job, but from what I've seen they do fine. I don't really think their equip setups are as intelligent, but I've watched them tank, and they're still quite good.Nusayb, Galka, Fairy Server- 63WAR,
