  • hakutaku - optical hat <can I have it?>

    hello

just wanna hear some stories on this nm fight. strategies, alliance setup, tips? I would really hate to lose my eye cluster. I've read up on it and it seems that 2 nin tanks and a good stun team would be ideal, with more melee DD's since he is strong against magic spells. What kind of special moves should I be prepared for? can it be silenced?

for those who have fought this guy, please describe how the fight went down, thanks!!

i can't wait to put that ugly hat on my head

    hakutaku is pretty overrated.

the minimum with paladins ( and this really is minimum, go below and you will SUFFER ).

    Two full parties.

Tank party with paladin should look something like as follows:

    Paladin
    Paladin
    Whm
    Whm
    Brd
    Rdm

Other party will be damage and stun.

Kills will take around 15-25 minutes with this sort of setup.

you need someone capable of tanking the links with reasonable tonberry hate ( a 70+ melee can tank the adds to be honest ), dont try and sleep the adds, they will cause too many problems, you have to kill them.

If you know where to camp you will only take agro from three monsters in the area, just north of the middleish millioneyes, but before the dip, is a good spot.

For ninja tanks, nin nin brd rdm or whm, other 2 spots whatever.

His magic is Fire III, Fire IV, Firega III and Flare, he has death eye attack for like 300-500, paralyze , etc, normal hecteyes WS.

He can also use enfire, so make sure that gets dispelled quickly, if possible use your bards to keep barfira up on everyone in case someone in the stun order is paralyzed and you take a firega 3.

I'm rather overexcited about getting to wear my hat in two levels time :-] Its going to be incredibly nice levelling up and equipping two fudo and my o-hat.

Here are a few of my thoughts on doing 5 runs.

1)He spams hex eye a LOT. This paralyzes a target, and he does it almost non stop. Have whm's and /whm's ready with paralyna. Over a 15-20 min fight I think I cast paralyna at least 30-40 times.

2)It's not too bad with a nin tank. Ours was 73 I think. I've never done it with pld as main.

3)A good stun order is critical. You just can't allow those firaga3's to get off, or they will slaughter your alliance.

4)I hear it can be done with 10 or 12, but do you really want to risk your cluster because you're short people? Wait until you can get 18 people together is my advice. With 18 70-75, mostly 71-72 range, we did all runs pretty smoothly. One of the 5 runs we got some adds and one of his spells got off, so we had some problems, but at least with 18 a recovery from a bad situation wasn't too hard.

5)It's a good idea to reset hate before going down. Our war hadn't, and I think he died like 6 times because grudge was hitting him for 1000+. It was sort of amusing. Hakutaku, no problem, random tonberry, boom. lol

6)A bard is nice for crowd control. You'll get adds, no matter what you do.

7)I'm almost certain he's unsilenceable, but there's a chance I'm wrong. We had several rdm's, and though I wasn't really looking for it as I was busy, I don't remember him ever not casting, or trying to cast.

yay! something for bst to do!

          lol

I feel so useless as a bst for these things sometimes. No one seems to remember my job exists or that we're actually good for something.

          18 bst vs tiamat {Can I have it?}
          75/bst, 60/smn, 51/rdm, 46/whm, 40/blm, 37/nin, 37/thf, 37/war, 32/sam, 25/brd, 10/pld, 7/mnk

Bst is an awesome job, especially for adds. Just not a lot of high level bst around lol.

Are any of the eyes for the cluster soloable by ninja?

3 Mithra are better than 1...

going along as a bst can be nice but it can also be a huge liability; for one fight you can familiar a mob so that it won't uncharm for 30mins; for other fights, if you use a million eyes you're forced to recharm once or twice during the fight. Anyone that's gone to this lvl with a bst should know the mischarm rate when not using light staves; even with a light staff you're open to a mischarm, at which point you could have any of a wide range of spells coming at you. our hate cutting ability won't stop spells, so if a firaga3 comes at you... well, there you go. As long as the bst makes sure bad things like that doesn't occur, it's a nice addition.

Navia, depands what level your planning on to solo. The one in den of rancor is probably the hardest , definitely not soloable even with a 75 ninja. The two in sea grotto are fairly easy, maybe when your 70 you can solo it when you sub whm for parana. The one in ifirit is not recommended to solo, since many bombs and gobs are there. The last one is the Tomb one, i think it is just as hard as the one in ifirit. I recommand bringing a thf74 friend with you. for the th2 and have him tank it. th2 helps a lot i think. if you have trouble finding all the eyes, look through some bazaar, people sell them. go from 20k ~40k i believe, depands on wat kind of eye it is.

I just got my hat last week, i recommend 2ninja to tank and 2 thf for hate control, at least 3 stunners. adds is a problem, so have a 2-3 members in a pt just to take care of adds.

                      gd luck^^

                          Solution?

                          Bring multiple bst XD

Usually bst's know eachother anyway. Most are willing to help since high lvs are kind of boring and soloing gets slow so we pt and do bc's. Most bsts will know at least 5 other bst's they can count on for bcnm runs at least. Usually at least 1-2 of those will be high enough lv to help.

I duo'ed my star pendent with another bst at lv 60. We were using IT/VT scorpions for the entirity of the farming expedition and neither person used 2 hrs. Just spread out the charm so one will break then then next break a bit later but by this time you already recharmed and threw the mob back on the cactur so ther other bst only has 1 angry scorp to worry about.

Also check out the lv 67 bst ring: +4 charm vs amorphs and +4 charm vs aquarians. I dunno the difference between chr and charm but most ppl agree charm is for duration. Slap on the ring and all the +charm stuff you can grab which may include the lv 30 axe thingy? I dunno, I'd stick with light staff but other stuff is possible.

One bst? ya I completely agree with frumpy. It's very hard to survive that kind of stuff if you are forced to use your 2hr ability.

Maybe just do 1 hat at a time?

Should really have 2 tanks for this, and have Thf's or /thf's trick off each of the tank. NM hits really hard, takes about 20-30 min each fight with 18 70+

He is silence-able, but it won't stick long. The more you do it the easier it gets, you'll find (which is true with about everything)

An another note, we've done this fight about 10 times and we rarely have any adds.
