Originally posted by imac2much I think RDM would be better overall... I mean, what does BLM give? More MP (whee)? RDM still have a magic attack +, more INT , more HP, dispel, gravity, phalanx (of course gimped due to low enhancing but still).
I mean, BLM just adds a couple Magic Attack+'s, so maybe NIN/RNG can still do well.
We'll probably try to test this next week... wish my NIN was higher than 37 so I could test it out personally but alas...
/BLM gives more INT. But that second MAtk Bonus trait would make a larger difference than the INT anyway.
Fast Cast II is at 70/35 (don't know how good Warlock Mantle is, but that's at 30) and is probably better overall than MAtk or INT from BLM sub. Stoneskin or Aquaveil for easier recasting of Utsusemi and Dispel would be worth spending the sub's MP. Cures too. Gravity most likely wouldn't work even with high INT, Enfeeble Torque, wind debuff, and a Wind Staff.
Originally posted by Flash +Haste equipment doesn't really dramatically decrease cast time.
2% = -1 second of recast.
Perhaps, but the Haste spell itself helps a ton. I think the % of haste decreases a certain % of the recast, not just a linear correlation to seconds cut off, though I may be wrong.
I do not have any proof for this (though I can test this easily if needed) but I believe the Haste spell reduced my Flash recast on PLD from 45 seconds to 34. Regardless, it was more than 5 seconds worth of cut off, and probably close to 10.
So you can do the elemental wheel of death in 20-25 seconds, case some utsusemi, etc, then technically with haste you should be ready to cast again.
Coinspinner: Ah, someone told me that /RDM gave more INT, so I guess I was wrong there. I also agree that spells like Gravity which are dependent on magic skills won't work, but something like dispel surely can be useful... for example, weapons in Romaeve have tons of buffs, and take 2-4 dispels/finales to get rid of all their buffs. It can't hurt to have the TANK aid the mages in dispelling here
I believe in karma. Anyone I treat badly probably deserved it.
From what i hear it isnt the INT that matters, supposedly its the MAG ATK Bonus that makes the huge difference.
Some numbers i read were aproximatly something like the following:
W/o any mag atk bonus damage is usually around 90-110ish not resisted (these are numbers nin/war usually puts up)
W/ Mag Atk 1 bonus(under lvl 30 blm sub) dmg is around 130 ish
w Mag atk 2 bonus (lvl 30 blm sub) dmg is 150 ish
The Elemental staves i'm assuming increase the dmg by about 20ish, then include the Moldavite earing (mag atk +5) that would then bring you to about 170ish then include some sort of torque, not sure which would be better the elemental magic or ninjutsu but thats another bonus to bring you to about 180ish, jesus I must try this, that guy is a genius.
MAB adds a percent modifier to your overall spell damage, whereas INT simply adds digits, especially when your INT versus the mob's INT reaches a critical threshold value, which is different for each spell... assuming it effects ninjutsu the same way it does black magic, anyway.
That's why for higher level/damage spells, MAB is more important. Get a Moldavite.
This is really cool... I'm wondering if I can do a similar job with NIN/BLM in the 20s as I level up my NIN sub... Ichi spells are weak, but it's volume over individual spell damage this way anyhow.
the problem with the ichi spells is that it takes way too long to cast. its pretty difficult to cast in between hits, isn't it? otherwise it'd be pretty interesting. i was surprised to see that sort of damage myself... ni series ninjutsu will most definitely cast faster than my III spells, and with that damage, 3 ni ninjutsu will almost match one of my blizzard IIIs. pretty impressive
OMG.... I threw out my Moldavite Earing last month after it was taking space i needed for crafting materials, I never thought I'd want to Use it as a Ninja!!!!!!!!

I'm assuming a NIN before 37 would be doing this instead of tanking, but who knows if it's even viable before getting the Ni series.

It's not. Casting times are a good 4-5 seconds, and at most do like 20 damage. One double katana hit does 40, and takes less time.
Nis are a HUGE improvement. 5 Times the damage and less then 1/3rd casting time.
