So... I'm about to be 66 and thinking about taking a shot at the old man early. Figured I'd see if anyone had some good suggestions/advice on strategy or whether I should wait a few more levels :O any help would be appreciated.

Although I've heard on other forums you can kite him and throw shuriken... I suppose that would be a much more dramatic fight...."We're all stupid, so lets go adventure in our ignorance together!"

i fought maat yesterday as a 68NIN, i died but if i had 1-2 more potions i would've won. the fight really isn't that hard.
this is what i had:
3 hi potions (but i would recommend 1 or 2 more)
opo opo necklace
icarus wing
4 sleeping potions
when you enter the BC, get 100 tp by using sleeping potions. melee him until his blink wears off, use blade: jin, then use icarus wing and hit him with another blade: jin, then slow, blind, paralyze him, and just fight him like normal. at about 20% health he will blow up on you causing about 500dmg (this is where i died) so make sure that your health is above 500-600 HP. that's pretty much it.Dtec

Maybe a stupid question, but would 2Hour + Reraise CP Scroll work in this fight? There is no knowledge without experience.

Ninja Maat is really simple, I beat him at 66, he didn't even touch me.
Here's the strategy. AF, Fuma Kyahan, and normal exp gear. Fight at night though, you'll get 10 evasion from Ninja Hakama.
Here is what to bring: 1 Icacrus Wing, a few Hi-potion if you want, I didn't bother. meat mithkabob
Run in the BC > Cast Ni > Eat Icarus Wing > hit maat's 4 shadows > Blade: Jin > Blind > Slow > paralyze > blink tank him till he uses Mijin Gakure > win
I beat him with 4:00 record at level 66.

I did it at 67, it's not hard. You'll actually find that the Yagudo enemies that you solo for the testimonies are a little harder than Maat is.
Wear full AF. Good for HP, dual weild, evasion, and ninjitsu.
Go in at night to unlock the +10 evasion in your Hakama.
Go in and put up Utsusemi: Ni first. I used Navarin, but you could probably use Meat Mithkabobs or Jack O lanterns if you wanted to.
Instead of runing straight up to him and attacking, cast 4 elemental ninjitsu spells into him to drop his shadows. He's going to do the same, but he probably won't get 4 of them off as quickly as you will. You'll only have to worry about one of his casts at a time.
Once the four shadows are down lay into him with all of the enfeebling ninjitsu while he's still at range. Paralyze, Slow, and Blind are probably the most helpful. If all of these land then your fight is significantly easier. Once you're satisfied with the debuffs, close range with him and start attacking him in melee range. All you have to do now is just keep track of your shadows and ensure you know what the status of his shadows are.
If he reapplies Utsusemi, pound out 4 more elemental ninjitsu spells for a gauranteed drop of 1 shadow per cast (if timers are still running use regular melee hits). Each elemental ninjitsu spell did a straight 75 damage to him regardless of the day.
I used Blade: Jin as my fighting WS and it worked well enough. Maat has 2600 HP by the parser, getting that much damage dealt to him isn't too hard. Ensure you keep health above 500HP for his two hour. He will blow up, respawn, and continue to fight you for a little while longer. He seriously won't be too hard to drop.

Bump on an old topic because I kicked maat's butt last night on the 1st attempt XD and I want to share how the battle went.
I waited until nighttime on darksday so my Sairen katana and AF legs were active.
I brought 5 hi potion and 1 x-potion and an icarus wing along, unsure if i was going to use them.
In my nervousness I forgot to bring sleep potions >< although I brought an Opo necklance lol.
So I throw up utsu Ni, pop the door open, pull out my weapons, and cast 2 elemental ninjitsu, he retaliates with dokumori Ni then decides to run up to me, by then I have all his shadows down.
I swap in ninjitsu torque and AF hat for 12 more skill and land every enfeeble on him, then swap back to acc neckpiece and hairpin. Oh then I decided I should eat my navarin lol, so nervous i'm forgetting things as basic as eating food before I started lol.
From then on I just carefully counted my shadows to keep blink on. He tried howling fist which missed then did his 2hr on me for 500 which is the only time I took damage.
I had 3 shadows on still so I downed 2 potions just to play it safe then kept swinging. I never got a 2nd weaponskill off, he gave up at about 35% hp after about 6 more regular katana hits after blowing up.
Fight lasted 5 minutes.
I'm wondering if things would have gone worse had I built up tp with Opo necklace because he only seemed to retaliate with a weaponskill after I did mine, and he may gain more tp than usual from being hit with them.
My tanking setup was 28acc and 41 evasion
Sairen/Hototogisu
Emp Hairpin
2 Dodge earring
Rk collar
Sniper/Demon Ring
Scorp Harness
AF legs,feet,gloves
Bat Cape
Life Belt
Lightning Bow
3 Mithra are better than 1...
