  • NIN Nerf (Don't flame ^^;)

Ok, I've been seeing a lot on here the words:

"The effect of the ninjutsu Utsusemi will be completely removed by area attacks."

But if you look at the update (Sep. 14) you will see the list of conditions that shadows can be lost:

The effectiveness of the ninjutsu "Utsusemi" now relies on the type of attack that is being used on the caster. When attacked, the following five outcomes can occur:

Caster evades attack and one "copy image" is lost.
This normally occurs when the caster is hit with a single physical or magical attack.
    (Normal, right?)

The number of lost copy images varies.
This normally occurs when the caster is hit with an area attack such as Whirl of Rage. The number of copy images lost (and extra damage taken) is calculated by taking into account the potency of the attack as well as the caster's current ninjutsu skill level.
(This is PHYSICAL AoEs, and it does not take away all shadows if your ninjutsu skill is high/capped (like NIN tanks are))

All copy images are lost and the caster takes damage.
This normally occurs when the caster is hit with an area attack spell such as Firega.
(Doesn't this mean AoE spells? If so, that has always been the case right?)

The caster takes damage without losing any of his/her copy images.
This normally occurs when the caster is hit with breath, or self-destruct type attacks.

The caster is enfeebled without losing any of his/her copy images.
This normally occurs when the caster is hit with an enfeebling spell that does not inflict damage, such as Silence.

Anyway, my point is that I think many ppl have been reading this update out of context. When ppl say "The effect of the ninjutsu Utsusemi will be completely removed by area attacks," I don't think that is referring to ALL area attacks (such as bomb toss, whirl of rage, etc.) but magic AoEs, which has always been true.

Please feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken, I'm just a concerned soon-to-be NIN.

P.S. the site for the *Official* update is here:

    Thank you

it doesnt always remove them all, on exp mobs maybe it does(? havent leveled nin since update) fighting lower level mobs with nin sub, after an aoe it only took off 1 blink..but another time took off all 3, so i guess its only a *chance* to remove them all, varying on level difference

      so fragile, so ephemeral...
      it arouses such bittersweet,

When the Peryton(SP? The giant vultures in Valley of Sorrows) use Sturmwind(I believe this is the right move ^^) it removes all shadows.
When Undead use their move that drains everyones HP around them, that also removes all shadows.

Those are the only two I know of that remove all shadows, most other AOE's Ive been hit with take 2 Shadows, and theres still some moves like breath attacks that take no shadows.

During exp parties I've been in recently, most AOE's took 2 shadows instead of all. I'd imagine those moves would completely remove the decoys for /Nin at my level. Some AOE's however, to take them all away. They seem like the same type too.

Its hardly a problem, its never destroyed my flow but SE's plan on what AOE's remove what seems a little sketchy and unpredictable.

Ouch! That would seem like a pretty big blow. I guess that means that bones parties are out, ya?

I think the number of shadow get removed by level of Ninjutsu is kinda .... nonsense.
I went to do PLD AF3 yesterday with LS and using NIN. I tanked the PLD mob, while the rest killed the RNG. When the 75 WAR/NIN move to the PLD and fought with me, it did Battle Dance. I got 2 blink removed and that WAR/NIN got 1.
I would say its rather random , and most of the time 2, since I did Dynamis with DRK/NIN and always got 2 shadow removed usually.

Some aoe really sux for NIN now, they do nerf NIN in certain mob. Golem, big bird, pot, and someone just talk about bone. Even those robot up at sky with those punching move ( name Pansomething like german) remove 2 blink o.O. And it cleared our blink very fast for /NIN ( we dont really have NIN in my LS< one high level NIN but rarely join big stuffs).
