  • Evasion Bonus overkill. Is it possible :O?

Hey guys first of all I am just here to share, gather and learn information just like you guys. Im not looking for any fights. K thx. Now, on to my issues.

    Evasion bonus.

At level 74 i have over +60 Evasion at night, not counting any AGI bonuses or anything. My gear is pretty much the best Evasion gear possible(of course no +1 harness etc. ^^) .

    Scorpion harness +10 evasion
    Optical Hat +10 Evasion
    Evasion Torque + 7 Evasion(skill)
Suppanomi (no evasion but 2 agi)
    Platinum Earring+1 +5 evasion
    Dance shoes +6 evasion
Ninja AF Legs +10 evasion at night
    Bat Cape +5 evasion
    Rasetsu Gloves +10 evasion

There are times when i switch some of my evasion gear to Accuracy gear when fighting hard to hit mobs and maybe it just me, but after about +40 evasion I dont notice any big difference in the amount of hits I dodge.

Many times i duo Tank HNMs with a War/Nin Friend of mine who doesnt have anything CLOSE to the amount of evasion i have and he seems to tank just as good as i do.

For instance, when i tanked Simurge last night I basically evaded less then 20% (everytime he hit, would remove a shadow, plus his Aoe move and songs, removed All shadows) But i got hit for alot harder then my war/nin friend when Utsu was down.

Maybe i have just been having bad days, but do you believe there is such a thing as Evasion Overkill??? Is it possible, we are limited to how much Evasion bonus can cause a significant impact on the amount of hits we evade? If so im selling my harness and getting something that will help me kill more efficiently.

Well it considering that this game caps abilities through mathmatics on other abilities then ultimatly the amount you can evade will be capped by an inter-relation of AGI and Evasion.

As a theory of my own though I'm starting to think that the effectiveness of some abilities have a codependency with other stats, so if the correct other stats are not raised in accordance you might end up impossing a self inflicted cap.

If you ever played, I think it was this MUD but not sure, Icewind the programmers of that MUD actually made each stat interdependant of one another. So if you raised STR solely then yeah you'll hit stronger but it'll reach a point were all that extra STR alone will make no difference, at that point in order to draw more damage out you had to make your character more fluent (aka Agile) eventually they would also need better up their grace to draw even more power (Aka Dexterity).

The thing many people start to assume right off the bat is going by old designs were STR was damage and only damage. This theory is immediatly shot down in this game if you look at THFs, many of their damaging ability is determined from DEX and AGI not STR.

So do realize that it might be possible that raising Evasion alone may improve you some, but might be adding some self impossed cap by having only Evasion pushed up. Thinking of what requirements Evading an attack usually depend on I would say try testing out a balance of some DEX (Speed and Grace) and AGI (Flexibility) to add with the Evasion.

See if that improves your Evading abilities more.

Cheezy Test Result (I am nerdier than 96% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!)

I make no claims my view is in any ways the correct determination of battle calculations but here goes:

I like to think every time the mob takes a swing at you (or vice versa - you take a swing at the mob).

Mob makes a Dex check vs your Agi.
Mob makes an Accuracy check vs your Evasion.

This determines if the hit lands or not. If so, then

Mob makes a Str check vs your VIT.
Mob makes a Attack check vs your Defense

This determines now much damage the hit does.

Along the same line as Macht was pointing out, if you focus totally on +Evasion gear, you might be able to pass one of the two checks easily, but fail the second check horribly. Therefore, if you design your gear layout to have a combination where you "max out" both Evasion and Agi, then you might have an overall better chance the mob will miss you than if you concentrated only on one stat alone.

I don't think I'll ever get rid of my Nomad +1 for a Bat Cape as far as the evasion/agi issue. I try to top my agi as much if not more than evasion... usually at +11 or so agi and +20 or 30something evasion (daytime) at 64-65. AF > Arhat's Sune-Ate imo as well... today I actually left Arhat's feet on by accident and my evade/parry just went to ass... needed a 2nd set of boots so i didn't outrun my pt tho >< and Fuma were on loan.

The start of a fight for a ninja is a pretty dicey affair if you don't use a trick attacker for hate setup, you have to stack enough +evasion in your favor to keep your shadows up while enfeebling so you don't get hit and lose hate.

An unblinded, unslowed, unparalyzed peryton/raptor can tear through 3-4 shadows before all enfeebles land sometimes.
Parry skill being high really saves your shadows during the start of a battle when stuff is double/triple attacking at full speed.

My preference is to swap in more evasion gear at the start so I can cast all enfeebles and toss in an elemental or two before I have to use Utsu Ni again. Then swap to atk/accuracy gear to maintain my lead on keeping hate. Its a lot of extra stuff to carry around but I am happy with the results and the ability to adjust my equipment as needed.

            Start of fight:
            bat cape
            survival belt
            switch kote out for AF
            AGI rings
            evasion torque

            Once enfeebles are done:
            Accuracy or spike necklace
            Amemit Mantle
            Life belt
            Ochiudo Kote
            Sniper rings

3 Mithra are better than 1...

Tonight I did a Ark Pentasphere fight and had +92 evasion and all the AA would miss me half around half the time and their pets would never hit me at all, but eventually they started using ws and those just never seem to miss....
