  • So the almighty "Blink Tank" has fallen....kinda

As seen on the post here:

    http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/sho...threadid=46705

    - The effect of the ninjutsu Utsusemi will be completely removed by area attacks.
Now between -ga spells and AoE spells killing Utsusemi, one can safely say that the era of "Blink Tanking" is over....

i don't think that will hurt blink tanks too much they will just have to avoid tanking certain mobs like skele. i sure hope they don't totally kill blink tanking though i just started lvling up my nin.

Many mobs have AoEs. Including crabs, which are the preferred method of experience through so many levels.

Will this include cone attacks? I wonder... if so, then crawlers and maybe spiders will be off-limits as well.

This doesn't affect WAR/NIN as much. But it does suck since I need to do some blink-tanking with NIN even though it's a capped sub for practice and to cap my ninjitsu.

There is a large number of mobs though that use AoE attacks. You have Goblins, Flies, Crawlers (poison attack), Beastmen, ect...

Really the whole ability of using Utsusumei for blink tanking was a fluke. I wasn't ever suppose to be that all mighty.

Yup, thats really gay. I seriously hope they will boost NIN to make up for that change because Blink tanking will be impossible or almost. Pretty much every monsters in the game have area attack. Only hope I have is that they add the -San line cause we're gonna need it to tank. This nerf is worst than the Fuidama change they did to THF. Its really bad...

I doubt it'll be totally crippling, but it certainly makes things a lot more difficult blink tanking.

Hopefully this paves the way for the full -san line.

Well considering that I've seen lv. 40 monsters use AoEs 3-4 times in succession that seems pretty crippling to me.

                Here's a fun task:

Name some mobs that DON'T have AOE.

Crawler breath attack is AOE (the area is in front, not all around). Spiders' web is AOE. Bats' Evasion down. Tigers' roar. Goblin bombs. Bubble Shower. Gigas jumping attack. Antican everything. Mandy sleep. Skeleton cloud attack. I haven't fought coeurls or raptors yet, someone wanna fill in the blanks?

This rapes the ninja class, no question. How stupid.

                  Raptors have a front AOE

And I don't recall an AOE from Coreuls.

I doubt non-damaging AE's will kill it. (By that, I mean non damaging, not the kind you take no damage from because you resisted.) So you can probably put spiders, bats, mandies back on there.

In anycase, there is no sense in pinging over it until it happens.

Doubtful. Sleepga and Paralyga strip shadows.

I'm just annoyed that they're fixing this now, seeing as how ninja has gone unchanged since Zilart release.

... guess i have to level grind hard now.

Thats because Sleep and Paralyze strips 1 shadow.

                            ...

I guess a full explanation is needed.

Single target spells eat one shadow. Single target TP attacks eat one shadow.

AOE spells (-ga) strip all shadows, whether they do damage (Aeroga) or not (Sleepga). This patch is making AOE TP attacks strip all shadows. What possible reason is there to believe that AOE direct-damage TP attacks will strip all shadows, but AOE status-effect TP attacks will NOT? The game does not care one bit about whether the action is direct-damage or status-effect (with regards to shadows).

I hope its just Physical AOE's that take down the shadows, atm we take no dmg from them and 1 blink well be removed.
It would make sense that only Physical AOE's well remove blink since we take dmg from other types of AOE's.
Not taking dmg from a physical AOE & losing all shadows isnt to bad.

I dont think they would ruin Ninjas tanking job without giving them something else more useful.
