yeah it is gonna suck. an whats worse is we have to wait another month to truly find out. but really when you look at it blink tanking is alot of hard work til you get the blink ni scroll. then it becomes easier..

things i take from this,we need to be more timely with our blink casts. we have to rely on help from drks an blm with stun, an we might be buying more blink powders per lvl.. is it the end of us?? who knows. sept 21. we will find out.

Nin75, Bst75. Drk61, War61, Rdm40, All other jobs are 37. All 3 starting city missions completed. All Zilart missions completed. All CoP missions completed. TouA completed.

but you tanking vs an IT mob with +40 or higher evasion and tell me that the monster missing over 10 misses in a row isnt mp efficient or allows you to recover from losing blink.
My NIN is 55. I have almost all +evasion equipment for that lvl. If Kurayami doesn't stick (and it often doesn't the first time), I might dodge 1 in 5 vs. low-medium IT.

Dodge 10 times in a row? On a perfect day maybe (I just dodged 6 in my last PT). But you know our dodge is not that godly. Otherwise we could tank with just Utsu:Ni and have no use for Ichi.

What am I missing here guys? I've tanked for 55 lvls. I have above-average equipment. I spam Ninjitsu. And yet, I still don't see our Dodge being all that great vs. IT without Kurayami stuck on. A lot of NINs say something towards "I guess we'll just have to max out our evasion bonus". I'm already very close to maxed out....and yet get shit scared when Ichi get cancelled becaus the bloody crawler double attacked. When you're casting Ichi without any shadows on, don't tell me you have no fear at all because our dodge will take care of it? 6/9 times I WILL get hit and Ichi gets cancelled.

Where's all this confidence come from?

Ok I believe no one has mentioned this posibility.... what if the NINJISTU : SAN Series is going to be released in COP????? if so Ninja's would have 3 Blink Timers to use so if you are fighting AOE type just save either Ni or San due to fast casting times to refresh Blink immediately after AOE attacks. SO.... I think Ninja/ Warrior will eventually be ok but /Ninja might have a bit more trouble... the sub would still be useable but not on the same lvl that is it currently.

As I Ninja and PLD are the top 2 tanks in the game... I don't think SOE would give PLD's a complete monopoly on Tanking.

After further thought, I think we'll still be able to tank, but we'll need to be healed much more often while BLM and DRK while have to pay more attention for Stun.

If you ever tanked Bird type monsters, you probably know about the Triple Attack special. It totally remove blink. Well its just gonna be like that.

What I think is that we'll have to equip Phalanx Rings, use Defender more often and eat Fish Kabob to make up for this change, which in the end, will remove our offensive power when were tanking, but we'll still be better tank than Paladins.

So....you mean use typical PLD gear to help you, because naturally you are a better tank, right? We are both 60, and as far as I know Bones PT's are the best for XP once you reach 67, all the way to 75. Good luck being a better tank vs bones than a PLD my main man, good luck. d(^_^)b

Currently I am a lvl 60nina/war and all I have to say is you fucking dumb fucks that are thinking that blink tanking will go away dont know shit about blink tankig whatsoever. Wow and AOE attack strips all the shadows ok so ill take maybe 1 or 2 at the most hits untill I can recast utsusemi again big fucking whoop stupid ass idiots. Blinktanking will not go away AOE will have no effect whatsoever on on how a ninja plays his job.

Well.. before the ninja job came out they basically did have that monopoly as the best tank.

It's not like tanking bones is difficult anyways

Although with this change I can only hope that the -san line will finally be released.

Right now I am feeling rather disappointed that square would see fit to do this, but hopefully theres something for nin's in CoP that would justify this change to utsusemi.

If there is nothing new in CoP.. I guess I'll worry about it then.

If cutting 2 minutes off PLD's cover ability and giving them raise at 50 isn't a big enough hint they have the tanking market cornered even more I don't know what is
Maybe they will get refresh next ;x

This is a BIG if, but:
If utsusemi: san is released, it would balance out the nerf and maybe even make ninjas even better than they already are. If there were three utsusemi spells to juggle, it would make the timing of blink casting so much easier to deal with, even if there were AOE attacks stripping blink every few minutes. The only disadvange I can see to AOE stripping blink AND adding utsusemi: san is that Ninjas would have to use even more shihei (Oh well).

In my opinion, Ninjas should be better than Paladins in most exp parties. They only have to spend about 5 times the amount of gil that a Paladin does to be effective. Where is the fairness in making them subpar tanks and subpar damagers if they are dishing out oodles of gil?

It seems to me that about a year ago, the excuse that "We are so much better because we use more gil" was acceptable, with both Rangers and Ninjas. Now it isn't anymore. They want to gimp down Ninjas even though they use much more gil. They figure that everyone that has been playing this game for a while has a lot of gil, so why make one job superior to the other? I expect a Ranger nerf or an overhaul of the melee system to make every other damager equal to a Ranger in the months to come.

Adding the nerf and not giving anything to Ninjas could be bad, but not too bad. If they added a Throwing WS or maybe added a Katana WS worth the TP to use it, they could actually make Ninjas into a decent damage dealer. I'd rather them leave Ninja's tanking abilities, though. Who wants to see Paladins have the monopoly on the tanking job? (Besides Paladins themselves, of course)

The way this game is headed, every role in a party will be taken over by one job. Soon Paladins will be the only tanks. Soon Black Mages will be the only damagers. Soon White Mages will be the only healers. Soon Red Mages will be the only support. Fuck all the other jobs. Fuck them in their gay asses.

                          First, the different AOE types.

There are 5 different types of AOE. Maybe this applies to the physical AOEs to even it out with the magical ones. Currently Physical AOEs only remove one copied image (give it a shot with THF/NIN on the RDM AF3 robot...you can get through the entire fight without taking damage while other people are dead at your feet, Utsusemi absorbs a physical AOE with one shadow every time)

                          [...]

In my opinion, I honestly think AOE physical attacks and not the AOE abilities will be addressed with this update. There's no way to really tell until they actually do the update though.
That's an interesting point. I personally think that everything you listed will now strip all shadows, but if there is an exception, I think it would be the "physical AOE" you described. I see that type of move more as "one attack that travels around an area", which is consistent with them removing one shadow.

However, moves like goblin bombs ("unblinkable"), sticky thread ("directional"), 1000 needles ("divider") are designed to "blanket" an area, just like a -ga spell. Making this change actually does make sense, from a logical standpoint; there really isn't any reason that Firaga should remove all shadows and hit you, but a goblin bomb shouldn't. However, that being said, to make this type of change after this length of time is a pretty obvious swipe at NIN's tanking ability. (I don't think that it's a coinicidence that PLD gets buffed at the same time NIN gets nerfed.)

i'm by no means a pro or anything (highest level is still 30 ), but i had a thought on this subject.

i saw this blink nerf coming for a long time now, based on the history of final fantasy games. considering all past FF games, how many has the purpose of a ninja to be put in the frontlines to protect the other party members? since when in history has a ninja been described as anything other than a silent assassin from the shadows?

i think that S-E never intended for nin to be a tanking class, but more as a support buff/dd class of some sort. it makes sense considering what a ninja is in real life and what it has been in past games.

                                just my two cents.
