  • Has anybody tried solo nin/rdm?

Has anybody tried solo nin/rdm or other combination? Also is it possible to get 2000 exp per hour after lvl 50 soloing DC - Even?

I was thinking about this combo myself, mostly because I'm leveling ninja now and already have rdm leveled. Any thoughts on /rdm in comparison to other popular subs for soloing, such as whm and thf?

I would think THF would be nice for soloing. I've noticed an obvious advantage in THF/NIN over THF/WAR since I switched, the evasion bonus really helps with keeping utsusemi up. I assume it would help just as much for NIN/THF. Keep in mind I'm just talking about soloing (LOL). I could see how higher level NIN/RDM might be nice, but I like to build on the "never get hit at all" mentality, which RDM doesn't really support as much.

On a side note, me and a friend who is also leveling NIN at the same time as me successfully switch-tanked a VT in valk and got 200xp. I think you could definately get 2k xp/hr with only 2 NIN's at lower levels. Once you hit 37 it seems you become a soloing machine(I can't wait).

rdm sucks as a sub here's why

enhancing magic skill for anyone that is not pld/blm/whm/rdm is capped at the skill cap of your sub job. so if you are a 75 nin subbing rdm at 37, your enhancing magic skill will be at the level level 37 skill cap.

what does this mean? it means that en spells will do pathetically low damage instead of the 12-18 that a real rdm would normally be able to do. you will be able to do 2-9 at best.

also phalanx won't realy be effective since it depends entirely on enhancing magic skill so the damage reduction from it will be minimal on the sort of mobs you fight 50+. also stoneskin won't last terribly long either.

for a nin, since you shouldn't be getting hit much, you should go for increased curing power. as such whm is the better sub for a nin than rdm. with whm, you have the ability to cure status and have nearly the same buffs as rdm (excluding phalanx). the benefits of thf are obvious, you get treasure hunter . of course, which sub you use depends onwhat you want (exp/skill up vs farming).

I can solo with whm sub easily, the trick to no downtime is to fight monsters that you can drain mp from using 'Energy Drain' dagger weaponskill. Stick with meat mithkabob and evasion gears.

Stoneskin is kept up to stop any specials that ignore utsusemi (like manticore's heat breath, spectre dimensional death, etc) and regen to heal up. Divine seal+CureIII is reserved for emergencies.
Using blink+blind for anything above decent challenge is recommended. Having a spare juice or two for emergency mp never hurts either.

If you fight monsters that cast spells (say BLM type demons), you should wait to use a weaponskill until the monster tries to cast something particularly nasty like stonegaII or freeze  and then let it loose. Until you get blade:Jin, blade:retsu is your best bet at interrupting a caster.

At higher levels you can hunt monster that drop coffer keys getting alittle xp in the process.

As for the RDM sub, I thought it would be good because of phalanx but you will evade anything below even match so much sometimes I can go 2 fights before having to redo stonekin without using utsusemi

                Go eBay yourself baldy:p

Naturally phalanx and en-spells would have little use as /rdm due to low enhance cap. Stoneskin is also gimped, but the same is true of /whm. I was thinking perhaps rdm's fast cast might help a bit, although it probably wouldn't make up for lower mp and no status cures.
