i'm a taru looking to be a nin. yes before you go on OOOO TARU SUCK AT NIN, or anything like that remember that taru are the 2nd best nin class in terms of dex and agility. anyways, i'm a low lvl 10 nin / 5 thf right now. (thf is also at lvl 10) i have never been a rich peson in FFXI. when i see that some people spent 15 million gil on a opaline dress (spelling?) when it first came out i was like dude... some people need a life. i know about farming/crafting to make money and all that but it has never worked for me. the most money i EVER had at one time was 35k and that was only out of sheer luck.

my highest job is a 35 blm and i have receintly leveled my whm up to 25 too so i am by no means a good player. this was perhaps my mistake, i am to weak too farm alone, i dont have any other job higher than 13 (bst) i dont have any way to raise my crafting skill (which are all at 0 btw) and i struggle like hell to get through the levels as it is. i'm not a good player i know that but i try to have fun at whatever job i'm playing. so far my fav jobs, unfortunatly, have been rng and nin. the 2 most expensive jobs in the whole game. just my luck huh? i've read that nin is the 2nd most expensive job in the game, and after an hour of reading threads in allakazham, i'm starting to believe that if a nin does'nt have utsusemi (spelling?) and shurikens they are very low dmg dealers, will be overlooked and wont be wanted in a pt. this leads me to my questions.

1.) everyone at one point or another has been in this spot, totaly clueless how to make money decent enough to support even a bard. farm. thats what people say. well, how is a 35 blm taru (which has no armor i might add, i have to sell ALL armor/weapons if i wanna start a new job to keep up with costs) supposed to farm? and for the people whos theory is "if you cant afford a job then dont play it" please dont flame me cuz i'm not "good enough" for you. remember, all this "omg how can you have a hard time farming" bullshit remember that to a lvl 30 or under person farming IS hard to do if you want to make more than 1k an hour.

2.) someone who has taken nin past lvl 60, what is your honest oppinion about nin. are they ment to be tanks? damage dealers? support DDers? blm assistants (elemental debuffs)? what?

3.) is nin/thf really as shit as they make it sound? when it comes to jobs i usualy read these forums FAQ's as a guide to how easy/hard a job is to play. i've never seen anything really bad about a nin/thf. i thought that it would be a good combo myself, you get good dex and agi, you get gil and treasure hunter, you get sneak attack. why do people say you will get overlooked when it comes to invites to a party? i dont get it. as the nin FAQ here says "the nin is supposed to be a whirlwind of little slashes"

i've tried just about every job except rdm and drg and i've just about given up on this game. i've been playing 3 months and have only found a select few who actualy help me out (about 5 people in my LS) the rest just bash me for not having 100k to spend on latest equipment/spells. if someone wants to help me MAKE money, i'd be more than happy to spend it to fix whatever equipment/spell problems i have. thanks for your help.

    1) Do quests. Some quests will give only a couple thousand, some give scrolls worth alot more. They're fun too, build your fame up, and are a nice break from everyday levelling. Farming is also decent - if you can't farm higher level stuff then just go to Sarutabaruta and kill crawlers. Silks sell well, and are worth decent money.

    2) Haven't played Nin, but from what I've heard a bit of all the above. They are my favourite tanks (if they know what they're doing), can reduce downtime drastically. As damage dealers they are very weak, although their debuffs are nice.

    3) I partied with a Nin/Thf once. He hit for horrible damage, his sneak attack sucked, basically an EXP leach.

go and level your bst on fungaurs in la theine.

dark crystals are a few k a stack and if you have cooking 10+ you can also make roast mushrooms ( or better witchkabobs if you have levelled cooking a bit further ).

Fishing is a nice way to make money, sure it is boring, I can watch TV and read while doing it, and chat in LS log and it pays off big time around lvl 50 skill, with full moon you can make about 80k in 3 hours
Your blm is 35, you have the -nga spells, head ot Ghes outpost, gidd or P mines, find a spot where you dont see any one and cast poison on the mob and just run around, then use that spell, you can make about 1.5k for a good run, and basically only use 4 spells at the most
lvl your blm to 40, not very hard, blm is allmost always in demand, get warp II, you can sell it to ppl for 500-1k a pop, a guy in my LS made about 200k in a week selling it to ppl( he plays for like 10 hours a day, maybe that helped some) but you can make gill that way
also at 40 BCNM do a few runs with LS mates, get 5 other ppl, do it 6 times, share the loot and sell it, split 6 ways, lowest you could make off 6 runs would be about 80k or so, with a high around 200k or more depending on server
Only craft that seems to make gil back at low lvls is food, get around 25 or so and you can make insect paste without fail(I think 25 is the safe point) and emtpy out your backpact, fill it up with paste and sell them for 300 a pop on a full moon near moat carp hot spots

My suggestion...if you really plan on being serious about ninja, lvl some guilds. Woodworking is fairly easy to lvl and cheap, plus Shihei is only around lvl 30 skill. Aslo lvling a guild or 2 grants a magical enhancement called..residual income. If you learn your servers econaomy you should have no probs feeding your nin. Forgot to mention........Thief.....level 15...GET IT!
          Smithing 68
          Weaving 60
          Leather 30
          Woodworking 73
          Alchemy 50
Amazing what one will do to level Blacksmith in this game -.-

i followed your exact path, took blm to 30 and did the ninja quest.

I have to say, it was all worth it.

you could try and find a party to do rse with you and just sell the rse if your in need of money that much.
