so far i've heard that NIN is the most expensive job in the game. i'd really like to become a NIN later on but i'm not sure if i would be able to afford it.

Equipment isn't cheap either.
Someone said 3-4 million was the magic number from 1-60 (I think it was Vivid, but I'm too lazy to look)... as a NIN37, I might say that's a bit too low; equipment expenses seem to bottom out at around 40, if you keep up with your equipment, because then you have most of the equipment you can use till AF or past... besides weapons, of course. However, it looks like ninja tools get even more important at that point, so you'd be using even more... @_@ Not to mention shurikens and mithkabobs...
RNG also competes with NIN in price, but exactly which is more expensive some people might argue. Being on the NIN forum, you'll probably find that the consensus is that NIN is more expensive than RNG... but users on the RNG forum might disagree.

dont' buy ninja powder from AH, stop by Norg and buy from shop it about 3k cheaper then AH, do that if you low on cash. Ninja is less expensive compare to ranger. If you want to be a hardcore rangers(best ammunition and range weapon) from lvl 60-65 it will cost you at least 1mil. For equipment, Ninja and Ranger mostly use the same equipments(hairpen, cape, boots etc...) beside AF.DRK 75 WHM 38 BST 12

Uchitake and makibishi were the only tools I saw that were significantly cheaper in Norg - other than that, the only thing I'd go there to stock up on would be shurikens. On the other hand, it sounds like an ingredient for manji shurikens is cheapest there, so once you get to that point...
