  • NIN/SAM Great Katana?

I'm currently a 32SAM/WAR with accuracy problems. I love self-chaining, but have problems missing that 1 hit i need. I was wondering what you all though of the NIN/SAM combo in terms of using the Great Katana. at lvl 60 you'd have i think 1 or 2 less strength but 3 or 4 more dexterity than a SAM/WAR... about 8 more Agility, and 1 more vitality. The key with a samurai is to hit constantly, and use your weapon skills effectively after you gain that tp. I just think a NIN would hit quite a bit more often, and being able to use a few Great Katana's, would have a great selection of weapon skills.

Although one thing i'm not sure about is what rating NIN's have with Great Katana, and if its worth it?

I'm thinking with the ninjutsu to lower enemies elemental defense, plus Tachi: Kagero and all those good weapon skills with Great Katana, it'd work out pretty good.

Any thoughts about a Great Katana weilding NIN/SAM?
I know you wouldn't be able to tank(no provoke) but you might add a good amount of damage to the party.

by useing 2handed weapon, you kinda miss out on one of hte main reasons for being a ninja, and as a ninja/anything u will be asked if u have a war sub, then passed over

Ninja have 'C' rating with gkatana - there is also a smaller selection of gkatanas to choose from with larger level gaps between upgrades.
I use gkatana on occasion with nin/war to try different skillchains, but thats about it.

If you are having issues with landing hits, I would suggest looking at your current equipment and find any accuracy and dex equipment. Also in parties, RDM gravity spell helps alot with cutting down misses. I can use a weapon like hand2hand claws (rated 'E') with uncapped skill for my level and land hits if the monster has gravity on him :p

SAM sub for NIN doesnt do anything until level 60, i'd say its a novelty combination for solo farming and not much else.

I use the great katana as well. I know the ninja specializes in regulation katana, but I like to be versatile in my array of weaponry, plus they look so much cooler with a great katana on their belt.

I rotate between the 2 in certain situations. If I'm just messing around, killing random mobs (mostly solo-ing), I use my great katana. When I'm in more serious situations, when I have to deal damage in a hurry or kill quickly ( like in a desperate group battle of life or death), I dual-wield my 2 katana.

I'm also trying to lvl up my throwing skill with my chakram, but it seems that I may have to transition to shuriken to lvl it faster.

Ppl ask me "Why are you a ninja using a great katana?" Ugh! some ppl can be so closed-minded in this game! I either just plainly state, "Why not?" or I don't even dignifiy them with a response.

I like meh great katana, even though its not as lvled as my standard katana.

why not? b/c ninjas suck w/ gkatana, a C rank for a weapon translates into a big fan, later on you'll just be making a nice breeze for whatever monster your trying to kill, hope they have a wind weakness, a ninja w/ a gk is like a goon w/ a sword..... an oddity and the weak link

            I simply refuse to argue....

I haven't the time to bicker over nonsense. I do what I want, and no one can ever change that. I play my ninja well, and I have ppl to vouch for that.

I know that ninja don't specialize in GKT's, so thats why I keep my 2X katana on hand at all time. I play for the fun, I dont play to be the best all the damn time.

Last I checked our skill with G.Katana is the same as our skill with a 1 hand sword, and i see lots of ninjas using them and not missing, so thats a pointless arguement.

                20k exp/level is not fun

deneb, if your profile is accurate there may not be many katanas that are better than swords or the good katanas for level20 may be way overpriced when compared to a equal level sword.

at lvl 50ish (i don't have exact numbers so trying to do this from memory) a Cclass skill will get about 140-150skill, an A skill will be around 180-190 iir, now not only are u hitting more, your swinging more times to give more +enmity from your af gear which will make you a better tank

As I posted in my earlier post, I only use my GKT most the time when soloing mob I have a sure victory against.

I never jeopardize my PT by using a weapon in which I lack excellent proficiency in. If we seem to do enough dmg, and kill quickly, I switch to my GKT to lvl in order to gain some skill, with permission of my PT of course. I normally do this when I dont have to tank as much.

Take an example from the Warrior, It never hurts to at least level all the weapons your job is capable of handling, A rank or not. Katana should have 1st priority since its your class's main weapon but flexibility's highly valued in this game, more so than a lot seem to realize.

Its cool to have your main weapon leveled, but if you can help it, why not have your main weapon AND all other weapons you can use at ready? Warrior's are rank A with Great Axe but its considered a huge plus on a player's record if that Warrior has at least 4 weapons leveled as well as GAX. I don't see the harm in giving some other weapons some attention.
