Could someone give me a translation on the Ninjitsu?

i.e. what do the words such as Utsusemi, Kurayami, Tonko, etc, etc mean in english. I've been curious for awhile, and I'm hoping someone might be able to help me here =)

Also, I forgot to add, I did read the list of Ninjitsu...do the Japanese names literally translate to what are in that thread? I.e. Poison, Invisible, etc, etc.

instead of <sigh>ing elaborate on what you are asking... and I believe they are the japanese counterpart of the english meaning so:

Utsusemi = Blink
Tonko = invisible
kuryami = blind
jubaku = paralyze
hojo = slow
dokumori = poison

Anyways, thanks to pixelchaos on vn, I have a slightly better grasp of SOME of the translations. His post is as follows:

I can read a little kanji since i'm chinese, so i'll try my best. either way, this is by no means canon or accurate. it's just a shot. i'll use [ ] to denote a character i don't understand / cannot translate in context

Utsusemi -> empty insect shell
Shihei -> Paper Soldier

Tonko -> no idea
Shinobi Tabi -> shinobi tool bag/pocket... or something

Hojo -> tangling rope
the tool is the same

Kurayami -> dark [ ]
Sairui Ran -> tear-inducing "eggs" (insect or fish eggs or something...)

Jubaku -> [ ] binding
no idea how to translate its tool

Domokuru -> Poison [ ]
tool is insect/bug poison



the elementals are just the proper element followed by a character i don't know how to translate properly

ice -> icycle shard

water -> water cannon

dirt (earth) -> no idea

thunder -> lightning rod

fire -> bamboo, probably one of those old Chinese "guns" (basically fireworks) that shoots out of emptied bamboos.

wind -> bat fan

Yes what Allusion was asking wasn't what the actual moves do, but what the names literally translate too.

Thanks a lot Allusion, I wanted to post a topic about this because I wanted to make cool sounded Macro's for each Jutsu.Using technique of Paper Soldier <Utsusemi> Ichi (or Ni) (tab. ) Just sounds so much better and more fun than "I am casting <Utsusemi>", or "I am casting <blink>"

I think its really cool how the Ninjutsu abilities, although they don't look like it are all really trademark Ninja abilities by name. Like Utsusemi being the Paper, or wooden dummy move. Or The Capturing/Paralyzing Wire tehnique, Poison darts, Ice Staves and Tear smoke bombs etc. I believe the Fire based elemental debuff is a take on the "Fire Breathing" technique thats another trademark, where one uses a Bamboo shoot in they're mouth to blow fire like a flame thrower. I'm just guessing, I'll look it up later but I think Tonko is a take on the ability where a Ninja covers themself in a special cloth that conseals them from sight.

This comes from the fact that when you think you attacked a Ninja, you were tricked into attacking something else that looked like him, as if you thought you caught an insect when it was just an empty shell.

Some ancient chinese astrology that helps you disappear. Supposedly.

Shinobi means (1) To sneak (2) To persevere (3) Ninja. Tabi refers to traditional Japanese socks. Shinobi Tabi is probably Ninja socks especially designed for sneaking around quietly.

Makibishi is a small pointy thumbtack-like thingy. A ninja would throw a handful of these on the ground before escaping, so that whoever comes after him will be stepping on these pointy things. (Japanese people those days only wore thin sandals made from strong hey.) Useless against combat boots of today if you ask me.

Jubaku sounds like a form of warding paper, thats pretty nice.

Hook on rope....I've seen it used before in various ninja mythos. Kind of like sickle chain weapons but its kind of grappling hook-ish. I suppose that could be it.

The squirt gun thing is hard to explain. I've heard of its mythos before, its not literally like a childrens toy, Its supposed to be like a Ninja device that uses water with the force of a Fire Hose. Totally fictional, but thats the closest thing I've seen to that. Some of the things Ninja's have used in mythological stories and fictional tales etc are damn right bizzare. Thats whats so cool about them. :D

There's been lots of stories where ninja's have ridden on artifical bat like wings, or kites actually usually. But the bat wing thing sounds like the Wind Debuff. It'd be kind of funny of Ninja's whipped out bat wing packs and started flapping like crazy to create an updraft. Its probably been in a story somewhere though.
