The passive abilities (atk boost and time shortening for weapons) are for h2h..not katanas.http://www.livejournal.com/users/zandria_/

Monks don't get any passive attack bonuses at all. Monks get the following job traits:
Martial Arts (hand-to-hand delay decreased) Lv 1, 15, 30
Counter (cancels enemy attack with one of your own) Lv 10
Max HP boost (duh) Lv 1, 15, 35
2 out of 3 passives work for Ninjas quite well, and since he said that a Ninja with claws would be cool, I'm pretty sure he isn't worrying too much about whether they work for katanas.
The active abilities would seem to be fairly useful:
Boost Lv 5 - Increases power of next attack
Dodge Lv 15 - Temp Evasion boost
Focus Lv 25 - Temp Accuracy boost
Chakra Lv 35 - Restore some HP
Ninjas can only equip baghnakhs, claws, katars, and patas. This means fewer options with your weapons of choice.
You would deal decent damage, but you would have to decide between using your dual wield and katanas -which you're great with, and relying on martial arts and claws- which you're not so great with. I've never had any experience with this particular combination, so I can't really say how it would work definitively, but there are definitely worse job combinations. It sounds to me like a flavorful choice, and one with some potential.
You'd have a place in my party if for no other reason than it would be damned cool to watch!
Have your Elvaan spayed or neutered.

This is actually the combo that I plan to go with, mainly I couldn't decide what I wanted to be at the beginning so I made a monk. I think it'll be interesting to play, and it'll differ from the normal ninja tank mold (which I personally hate). In my personal opinion a ninja shouldn't have to be just a tank to be useful. I plan on taking this combo as far as I can.

I've just started using this combo because i leveled my monk to 30 and wanted to start using an adv. job straight away. I chose to use the NIN/MNK combo and it seems to be working ok. The counter trair could be very useful in higher level and the hp bonus is always welcome. I'm going to keep using this combo until i see any major downsides to it. After all, its a fairly uncommon combination and somebody has to try it.
