  • A DIFFERENT Ninja Tactic..

Well I was thinking alot about NIN and I'll probably end up making one insted of a dragoon regardless, but, I wanted to know if my "way of the ninja" is do-able.

Basicly, I'm looking more at a secondary melee. Sure, I'll still tank, but I'm talking about getting atk+ rings, and doing damage. Not heavy damage, but damage that will be noticeable. Also, I want to use the OTHER ninjistus. like the elemental ones.
    Will that work?

Keep in mind, that I will be playing with good friends that couldn't care less whether I'm whoring blink or not

so basicly, I just want somewhat of a damage dealer. But if thats impossible, then I might as well know now, so I can start buying blink powders
    my level rises every day

meh.. basicly nins dont do an awful amount of damage... there better off tanking... although HIGH lvl nin/reds do decent as a elemental fighter.. but leave that for the blm=P

i was sad to see how weak my nin was compared to my thief and ranger and warrior... all being above 15 and the highest 32=P

my nin is lvl 18 now w/ a war sub job and it just doesnt dish out the damage i want... but thief/nin is working out great =P

maybe thats a better path for you if you wana deal damage..
but play what you think is fun... if you have good friends you dont really have to worry about gettin into groups=P

Maybe your experience is limited, but in pure melee I outdamage anyone overtime (minus BLMs, DRKs, and most 2h users). This is all before Job Abilities and WeaponSkills, in which most other classes that were MEANT to do damage, outshine me, and I have no problem with that.

I did about 15-30 per blade in the 30s on IT mobs in the Grotto, about every 3-4 seconds. My fellow DRK groupmate does 50-70 per hit every 4-5 seconds without Last Resort. My Ranger groupmate did about the same every 5 seconds w/ his bow, maybe a bit more on mobs with less defense.

What separates me from them is they have abilities that make them do nutso damage, such as Barrage, Last Resort, and of course, their insane weaponskills. My blind works better and lasts longer than the WHMs, my debuffs help the DRK do more damage on bursts and help the BLMs, and so on... I used to think Mijin Gakure was useless, until I started using it to save the group. Ironshells casting Metallic Guard and everyone hitting for 0-5 damage, and WHM out of mana, provoke down for 20 seconds, and I explode for 345 damage and bring him down. Or provoking something that aggroed on the group, is way too high and everyone needs to run, Blink, hold aggro while people run, and explode to give them room to get away.

I've come to accept the fact that, my Ninja is there to make groups better, not to be a force by myself, like SAMs, DRKs, RNGs, DRGs, and BSTs. Its one of those jobs that was meant to do everything else. If you wanted to be a primary dmg dealer, look at one of the above jobs. If you want to be a consistent damage dealer, there is nothing wrong with subbing a job that will increase your damage. Play how you want to play and forget about the naysayers, the fun in FFXI is trying different combos that suit your playstyle and make you feel useful to a group.

      Enjoy.

Ninjas have FAR more uses. Most people with limited imaginations stick to the cookie cutter (do what others are doing just cause they say so) ways to do things. a ninja (as i stated in a forum somewhere) can hold down a monster if the group cant take him on (just blink and go invis when the party escapes) help aggro monsters out the way for new players or your party (then blink+invis (unless its a sound or oder monster)), and you can pretty much get to most areas without being aggroed (thats hearsay i think). the point is that theres more uses to a ninja than taking a monsters HP. i forgot the other uses i posted somewhere around here so feel free to take a look around :D

Me being a Nin/Thf... I love it, I havnt' hit 30 yet.... I will soon though, and i'm sure i'll feel better when i get my sneak attack back, sure I know it goes by your thf level so it wont be as much as my 30 thf, but I'll be doing enough damage ever 1 minute to be happy with...

Also for me, one of the best things about having my Nin/Thf combo, I dont get hit... basically the evasion bonus and super high agi, make me get hit very rarely, and the Dex boost from Thf also helps with criticals, I do alot of criticals btw.... Plus I debuff alot with the elemental magics, use Tonko to get through tough areas that others cant pass... and OMG I love throwing abilities, as I'm the main puller in parties usually, being able to max out throwing fully is awsome, I do good damage with it too... So for me, I think its a great job. ^^
