  • How do you think Ninja would do in PVP? NIN/THF vs RDM/(WAR/BLM/WHM/SUM (help plz)

I'm currently a red mage and i'm so far loving every minute of it. I'm at my early stage, so therefor i'm doing good physical/magic damage. I am aware that in the lvl's to come... this will all change. In the future(should i continue as a Red Mage) my purpose in a party will pretty much be a spell caster... which does bother me somewhat. I'm really not 100% fond of being a full on healer, so i would probably sub a black mage.

One thing that i'm curious about is... how do you think a Ninja would fair in PvP? One thing on my mind is the NIN/THF/WAR combo. I think it's awesome. I think NIN looks rad and just a certain level of coolness added to it. The Ninjutsu seems to be interesting. almost similar to the red mage. Does NIN compare to Red Mage at all?

Now lets just say PvP is out as we speak

    NIN/THF/WAR vs RDM/WAR/BLM/WHM/SUM

who would take home the cup? would NIN/THF/WAR stand much of a chance? Would Red Mage stand much of a chance? How would A RDM and NIN fair with other job classes?

The main reason i'm asking this is because i want a job that will stay interesting for a party and keep the party fun. I also want a job that would do good when PvP came out. this is my first MMORPG.... so naturally PvP is really exciting to me and it will play an important role in keeping the game interesting to me.

By the way...I am very aware that PvP is months away and that no one has a whole lot of information to how it will all work out. So with that out of the way... i would still very much like to hear a few opinions

Sharing your opinions on other jobs that you feel would do good for PvP would great too.(excluding the obvious BST)

    hmm

Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't they just cast paralyze and inhibit the use of any jutsu?

That leaves you with melee and unless you're a Nin/War you're going to go down pretty quickly. PvP wise Nin/War/Thief would be terrible.

    Nin/Thief

Only of any use (and not much I might add) in groups. The current december patch will finish this combo off for good with the farewell to Yokodama.
This combo is far too weak to go head to head with anything unless you're spamming blink.

    Nin/War

Head to head, this will deal out more damage than a Nin/Thief and you'll also be able to take more thanks to the defense bonus. Taunt doesn't benefit you in PvP so there're much better choices.

    Nin/Drk

I've been thinking about this one for a while in terms of PvP. Nin get the resist bind ability which is a huge plus when fighting rangers/mages and Drk gives you 2 extra damage modifiers which, in turn, allow you to deal alot of damage which is a big help to Ninja/Melee. You don't need to worry about taking hits as Blink II negates them completely and the much acclaimed "Blink III" (which I've yet to see) would just about make you invulnerable.

    Nin/Sam

In terms of PvP your strength is the TP and your weakness the weak katana weapon skills. Having said that I don't know what the high level katana weapon skills are like. At my level I only have "Blade: Retsu" and while it looks pretty damn good it's not useful unless you use it as a "1,2" combo starts then you can fit in 4 hits without much dly till the next combat round.

Paralyze only has a chance of stopping an action, its not a guarantee. Some fights it will interupt 3-4 actions, other fights it will interupt none. Actions not only include spells but stuff like special attacks too.

I love my thief/ninja. I cant wait for pvp. Invis ninjitsu, flee, resist gravity, resist bind, evasion, etc. With invisibility sneak attack will be a no brainer to land. With flee you can get out of a bad situation if needed. Granted trick attack probably wont really ever be usable in pvp, but sneak attack can still deal some major dmgto an unsuspecting player. Hopefully steal will be usable in pvp also.

Haha. I'd love to see the fights that break out if this happens.

              XD

i would love to see the faces of a BLM alliance when a crowd of invisible ninjas sneak out of nowhere (i wonder if footsteps will be heard or a beast can sniff someone out lmao!!!) imagine stealing all of their MP items or even their food.

If i were a blackmage or another class i would pee in my robe.

i do know that there are no deaths as far as i've heard. i would guess theres a point system where you loose an equal amount of points on a bar if your are hit.

If i were a tarutaru i would pee in my pants.

As I understand it, it's only PvP in a generic kindergarten sense... stuff like, "Who can get the most conquest points before the time limit expires?" etc. Nobody actually gets hurt...

                ...which removes the entire point.

The upcoming "Player vs. Player" to be added to FFXI is reportedly not "players killing each other," nor is it "players attacking each other." It is "players competing in events and seeing who gets the highest score."

To make an analogy, if FFXI PvP were Street Fighter, instead of players fighting against each other, we would be fighting against the computer and seeing who gets the highest score.

Yea that is true. There isn't going to be Player Killing. I like it that way though.

there is one sub that will allow ninja to dominate. sadly, im not telling.

It's really too bad that the "PvP" won't actually involve fighting. Thinking up strategies and counters would be fun for a few weeks, until natural selection sifted through to the best PvP job combo.

You guys are nuts. Nin/War would do fine. You fail to remember that Utsusemi absorbs magic, WS, and melee attacks. Only person I can see dropping a NIN pretty quickly is a BLM with a -ga spell to remove Utsusemi altogether. Or maybe a monk or someone else dual wielding at a faster than lvl 10 pace.

Anybody using a 2hander will not hit a Ninja, you guys should know that by now. However, unless you are 65+, it will take you a while to kill someone . Ninjas wouldn't be dominant, but they sure as hell wouldn't be as easy to kill as you guys seem to make them out to be.
