Type of Throwing Weapons- Question

Just checking to see if anyone might know this.... Are you only allowed to throw 'ninja' based items and weapons, or any old thing (like that older sword that has been in your inventory for 20 levels, but it could do some nice damage if thrown, ala Edge in Final Fantasy 4). If so, that could be very, very handy! ...I've searched everywhere (almost), but have not found a listing of thown weapons as of yet....
