Yes, thanks for the info Kosh. This helps me decide what I'll be at the start.

My pleasure, everyone. But does anyone know what the "Guard" skill is? I just translated a Japanese site so this translation might be off...

I think "Guard" might be counter attack because monk is the only one with a grade in this skill. If anyone knows for sure, let me know and I'll edit it. I'm certain that it does NOT mean guarding another player LOL (That's a Paladin job).

I'd say it does affect the chance of countering an attack or something too. Or maybe Monks just randomly block attacks like they have a shield?

Nah, guard is guard I'm pretty sure. Like you block basically I think.

That would be Parry when you simply block. Everyone can Parry. Why would Monk have 2 skills that do the same thing? I haven't tried Monk yet, but I'm sure Guard does effect Counter Attack.

There's a BIG difference between parry and guard...

when you parry (Weapon block), you take no damage what so ever...

when you "guard" you'll see your character go into parry stance, but you still recieve 25%-50% of the damage...

The parry rating for all grapple weapons is insanely low...

I find myself gaurding at least once per battle (given the criteria of having the aggro on myself)...

And only Monks can do that? If so, that sounds like a great MNK ability that people don't talk about much!

                        forgot to mention...

counter skill is based on level, and is not affected by gaurd...

your only possibilities to counter only occur if the enemy MISSes you...

henceforth, evasion plays a larger role in countering than guarding...

So a Thief/Monk with the awsome evasion they have, would be able to pull off counter a lot. If I understand what you are saying....

ive heard from a few players that being a thief early in the game doesnt pay off like they want it to ... alot of them stated that being a monk until yur experienced enough is alot easier than becoming a thief right away *by paying off i mean the evasive skill doesnt really matter at that low level*
