  • How useful can a Monk be in a PT?

Sometimes it seems they don't have a lot of uses in one, which kinda pisses me off, because it's going to be my first.

Edit: Either as a main or a sub.
    Rude, but not wrong. ;x

Think of it as variety. They can at times be a flavorful substitute for a Warrior or Thief. I think Monks are cool, they'll easily get in my party.
    Chocobos smell like crap!

Getting into parties as monk is not a problems. You will never be a tank but your damage output makes you very worth while to have.

Use /WAR as subjob to take advantage of the combat orianted skills ... Concentrate + Berserk + 100 Fists is a thing to behold.

Also, when you get to 51(I'm not quite there yet, so speculating and basing my assumptions on skill descriptions) with the MNK and get Kicking you will also have the WARs Double Attack which, I think, he gets at 25(well .. asuming you also lvl'ed WAR to use as sub-job).

This can potentially let you hit 5 times in one turn every turn since the abilities are passive...
              .2 hits - normal attack
.2 hits - 2nd attack from the Double Attack skill
              .1 hit - Kick
then if you are lucky, you'll get one more hit from Counter.

The above would also let you build up TP darn quick.

Monks do pretty well in parties. At my level(19), I usually have the most hp, so subbing war and using taunt lets me use that hp, even if my def isn't as great as a main war. And I don't even have my war level up to half of my main yet. Monks at my level are also commonly the closers to renkei with the combo ws. Counter is nice, but kind of rare against totetotes. But the evasion ability helps make counter chances come by more often. And the 2 hour is nice. Activate that bad boy and just sit back and watch the hp bar go down.
