  • 70+ monk boots question

    Greetings,

My wife is just about to hit lvl 70 with monk and she is currently wearing AF boots. She is a very casual player, so gear/gil isnt on the top of her list. I however, always like to help her improve things when they are worth it and unfortunatly I dont know a whole lot about mnk. What sort of feet armor is recommended for the 70s? My friends and I do assaults, but its not at a substancial pace yet, so any gear from there is a long ways off. Any suggestions would be apprecaited, thanks.

Edit: Damn it, screwed my post twice!? Okay FINE the SHORT SHORT SHORT version

    Dune boots = Awesome

    Kill Sabotender Bailarina

    Boots = 100% Drop

Dune Boots Hidden Effect = Increased Kick DAMAGE (not to be confused with increased Kick Attacks)

I agree, Dune Boots are all I wear at MNK75 still, Kick Attack DMG+30 makes your kicks hit as hard as your punches. Perhaps these should be renamed "Doctor Martins".

Getting the boots is easy enough as long as you can get 8-12 people together, with at least 2 being WHM. The Sabotender isn't really camped normally, and the spawn is usually up soon after you get there. I ended up tanking this myself most of the fight as MNK/NIN both times I fought it, even though a PLD was in both parties.

If you don't understand what + Kick Attacks means (Wulong, Kungfu, Dune boots) just look at it this way. They're like weapons for your feet. H2H weapons give +DMG, right? The Dune are +DMG too (for your feet) but, the modification for Kick Damage is different because apparently there isn't a Kick Attack combat skill. I'm not too sure on the stats on them, I've seen people say +50 (Which I kind of lean toward, I mean, Kicks now are significantly greater than regular hits.) yet I've seen people say +30, I guess there's no real way of knowing for sure. But either way, easily the best foot armor for the MNK in their 70s.

In the moonlight, your face it glows.. like a thousand diamonds, I suppose.
And your hair flows like.. The ocean breeze...
Not a million fights could make me hate you, you’re invincible.
        Yeah, It’s true.
It’s in your eyes, where I find peace.

        [I love you, Rebecca :D!]

Kick attack base damage is the same as H2h base damage which means h2h skill is your "Kick Attack" combat skill.

I would be careful of Sabotender Bailarina with only 8 ppl (125dmg/person/needles). We wiped with 10 and succeeded with 14. Here's the "run-down":

            1. Get together a nice core of 6 with 1 Tank, 1 WHM, 1 Refresher, and 3 DDs.
            2. Find an extra WHM and a refresher for them if possible (RDM is best for this since they're also a great backup healer).
            3. Get a nice BST or SMN to distract the pops in the tunnel.
            4. Get as many bodies together as possible--doesn't matter what level, but it's nice if they can all Sneak themselves (40+ with WHM sub or any level with oils).
            5. Have the BST pet-pull the dancing cactus lady into the tunnel and drop it off conveniently for the core party.
            6. Only melees who have/could have levelled in Caedarva Mire (e.g. 69-75) may actually attack the Bailarina. Everyone else is just a {meat} {shield} for 1000 Needles.
            7. At 12 people, 1000/12 = 83.33 damage per person, at 10, it's 100 per person. At 14 it's slightly less, 71, but remember, you don't want the healers in range so they can rest. Stoneskin comes down fast during the rage 1000 Needles spam near the end of the fight, so it's crucial that your WHM's can rest.

            8. If you don't have a BST you will have problems with links in the tunnel. The BST charms the Sabotenders and uses them to attack--best case scenario. Otherwise, someone must occupy the links by either (a) continuously zoning them or (b) actually fighting them.

              Re: 70+ monk boots question

I've trioed this NM several times and havn't found it too difficult if you can get a good setup. We have a lot of mnks leveling in the LS, so lots of camping for this NM.

The 1000 needles is dispersed not only to party members, but NPCs and pets as well. Everyone subbed smn and called thier NPC. So we have 9 bodies to absorb the damage. Party setup was Mnk/smn, Rdm/smn, Whm/smn. Stoneskin on the mages, Phalanx and Phalanx2 cast on everyone. I cured the NPCs (they were at least level 47 mine being the lowest) and the the rdm cured the mnk. The mnk usually just two hours to kill it a bit quicker, and the rdm will chainspell nuke near the end (careful of converting).

We all had pretty general gear, nothing really hard to obtain, maybe some expensive. The mnk did have a jelly ring, and we macroed in Earth staffs for when 1000 needles was going of (mages kept it on at most times). If you can get a 75 mnk that has Mantra merited is a nice boost as well, but not really required.

Having more to help take it down quicker is nice, but I recommend that anyone that has smn unlocked should sub smn just for the pet. A bard is nice to have so the melee with that /1smn can get ballad and keep carby out as long as possible. So pretty much how many people you find you can multiple by 3 (person, npc, pet) and soak up the hits pretty good.

              Good luck ^^

EDIT: Phalanx 2 is of course a 75 rdm merited spell, it's not required, but is very handy to have. Also, as whm I meleed till I was at about 50% mp then rest. Hexa >> Dragon kick and double MB with banish3 and holy is nice damage.
