  • New Monk.

Hello i been recently leveling a war to lvl 10 and I decided to take Monk up for a sub job.. It seems i may be sticking with Monk instead as i'm having loads of fun! the leveling is mad crazy and i'm killing mobs it seems way more faster then my war. My monk is lvl 7 atm and i lvled her up to 5 lvls one day and 2 more the other.. Why is the leveling so easy? Also should i keep my war and use him for a sub or go thief? as for crafting i'm going with Cloth crafting since i can make my own Gi uinforms is this a good idea?
oh atm i'm using Catbandangles for weapons should i upgrade now at lvl 7 or wait till i'm lvl 10 and get the ones from when you save your points up?

forgot to add I'm a Mithra but i'm not female this is why i put the Elven face Will use Hume for my 2nd char wich is named Cic.

    Re: New Monk.

Not sure if you're using meat jerky or not, but that seems to help some. Selbina milk is nice too. With clothcrafting, it's a toss up... I would almost suggest leveling THF to 15 (or 20 to get a SJ), then going through the clothcrafting guide. The early cloth items for MNK are mostly <20 skill, so you could probably get there pretty quickly, but it will involve a LOT of time spent farming. If you want to lvl MNK first, you should probably just buy other gear, or you could consider AH for the MNK gear if you can get enough money from selling drops, e.g. crystals, beehive chips, etc. Just some thoughts.

      Re: New Monk.

Just to make it clear... 99.9% of the time, mnk/war is your party combo of choice. I hate to sound elitist, but there's a very high likelyhood that I wouldn't invite a mnk/thf. /thf is very nice to have for farming and utility, and I suggest that you someday level it to 37 (by the time you have enough money to fund subjob leveling ok, it'll take you 2 weeks tops to go 1-37).

Check out the very nice stickies for some good info =)

Crafting should be on a backburner for now. You need levels and different jobs to be able to farm well for materials. You also need money to buy materials off the AH. It's a big gil sink unless you only do it with items you yourself have farmed.

As for MNK and WAR, both are great early jobs, and WAR is useful as a subjob for many jobs, and its MNK's #1 subjob until about level 74 when /NIN damage mititgation often helps fast-killing parties more than the superior damage output of MNK/WAR. MNK levels very fast early on because it hits twice/round. Collect everything that drops into stacks and sell them on the AH so you can buy gear upgrades. You'll want to head to Valkrum Dunes and have gear on you to last from 12-20 or so. MNK can solo very well into the teens, but it is helped greatly by having a mage subjob that can provide protection and healing when doing so. The aforementioned Selbina Milk is a drink that regenerates hp, and meat jerky or grilled hare are nice low level attack foods to increase your damage. The first big MNK weapon to obtain as I recall is Republic Knuckles.

If you focus on nothing else in the early levels, focus on weapons and food. As arkaine23 said, you should get Republic Knuckles. They are overpowered at that level (15?), and I used them until Boreas Cesti at 30.

Food, I recommend Rice Dumplings for levels 1-40. The static Accuracy +5 is big, and it gives a nice Attack bonus to boot. Other stats like VIT only help.

Definitely get Republic Knuckles at 15, and they can last you until 32 when you can get Impact Knuckles, or whatever else you want to use. For food...you may be able to get away with using meat, but higher up you'll need accuracy..so go with Rice Dumplings if you can afford them, otherwise stick to Meat Jerky; it's cheap and works well for quite some time :D

Thanks to Roguewolf for the sig. :D

I have to disagree with that. I lvled my craft along with my lvl when I first started too. And if your a windurst mithra lvling clothcraft off of the drops your getting will take you pretty far, until you can safetly harvest in giddeus for the cotton and linen items.

As far as which craft to level every craft has its benefits for everyjob. You might try lvling all of them for a little while to see which you enjoy the most, because no matter how useful the craft is for your job, if you don't enjoy it you won't want to lvl it all the way.

I'd say around the time you get rank 5 and your airship pass i would spend a few weeks lvling all the crafts to about 10. You should be high enough lvl to farm for the farmable items and can easily travel between citys to get to the guilds and npc that sell the items you need.
