Indecision - Black Belt

I love Monk very much and I intend to make it my main. I've been meriting on my SAM to increase stats that will be helping towards enhancing my Monk play--a very heavy emphasis on critical hits so far. I care about the gear I choose for this job, which is why I have been already thinking of the Black Belt, I'm still level 64.

In all honestly, I just don't think I have the patience and the time to invest to obtain one, I'm ashamed to say.

Is there anything that at 70+ is still considered an excellent belt for monk? At this point, I have both Life Belt and Brown Belt, can these be sustained throughout my monk career?

Or, based on how excellent this Black Belt is---should I just bite the bullet and really invest all of myself into obtaining it? That stats are wonderful, but is it absolutely necessary to go through such trouble?

I really don't think it's up to you to decide whether you can get a black belt or not. All 3 items required to obtain a black belt are dropped off of HNMs, or the ksnm99 mob. So unless you have 300 kindred seals and pray to god the black belt items drop on each of the fights, or your hnm ls has you next on queue for a black belt, it really isn't up to you to get it or not. But ultimately, it is well worth it if you really like mnk.

if you plan to replace everything your SAM does with MNK, yes. It's just that awesome.

Black Belt is amazing, but understandably hard to get. I plan on wearing Brown Belt until I can get Black Belt, not taking it off for anything else except a Life Belt, situationally.

By the way, I'm smiling thinking of the amazing damage your MNK is going to do with merited crit rate. You're going to wish you could somehow trade the merits in for Enmity-. XD

brown belt is good enough. But there's no reason not to dream about the black belt really. Organizing KS 99 run is not easy, you need strong LS with lots of Blm. So IMO whether you want to hunt HNM for it or do KS99 run, you will still need to be in an end game LS to do it.

Get yourself a good HNM shell, preferably ones that hunt faf/behe/aspid a lot. Then join all their runs building up your points like crazy. And you'll get the 3 items. It will take time, but it's well worth it.

Hee, I actuallty sport Crow pants right now. I try to be pretty cautious when it comes down to hate issues--we love our tanks and don't want to make the mages hate us! But yeah, when I get an invite to a wild crazy party where no one cares about dynamics and wants to unleash, yeah....man, I just love the damage. It's amazing when both hits do critical damage and you follow up with a critical hit with a kick (Wu Long wearer and happy.)

But I do have bazillions of KS's, unfortunately I don't belong to any HNM's right now. My LS has high levels, but we've been trying to nuture and grow our other members in order to do more HNM activities together as a family.

So, I'll sport my Brown Belt, and maybe when chance and timing comes around, one by one I may gather what I need to get it.....Maybe

theres always warwolf. great belt, and i dont think +3 enmity will really make that much difference. like jei said, brownbelt is great already and blackbelt is probably hands down the best belt in the game.

the belt slot is 1 slot that mnks have a superior advantage over every other melee job. make use of it.

Honestly, the only belt i'd say is close to black belt in uber is ninurta's sash, and well...

All right...At first I was just pondering with the idea of a Black Belt, hoping there can be something else I can live with instead....But now you all got me drooling

I don't know when it will happen, how long it will take, what year it will be, or who will be president by then....But once I have that Black Belt I will let you all know...and there will be much rejoicing

Brown belt is fine at level 75. If anybody realistically expects the MNK they exp with to have a black belt, they have problems. Black belt is easily the best belt in the game, but brown belt isn't too far behind it.

Feba has a good point. If you go with black belt, you will be on MNK almost all the time. The only times I could see you using SAM over MNK is in the limbus with monsters resistant to certain damage types.

Brown Belt is a good belt for endgame, no-one will have a go at you for not having a Black Belt.

If your HNMLS will help you get the items and you have **NOBODY** else in your LS to compete with (like monks who are already L75) then more power to ya. I have no way at all to get those items so my brown belt is all I got.
