  • how does counter stance work?

    Anyone know how much boost counter stance gives? I saw this posted on Alla but it sounds a little too good to be true.

    +1 counter = +1% counter
    counterstance = (Base% + added%)x3
    I also seen some debate whether counter trait gives 10 or 15%.... but assuming it's 10, possible counter boosts are
    10 base
    15 Cross-Counter (+5)
    20 Merit (+5)
    22 Latent ring (+2)
    26 Retsu+1 set : head hands feet body (+1x4)
    28 Avenger's earring (+1x2)
    29-32 depending on leg pieces
    Aikido Kosh*ta leg level 50 (+2)
    AF1 Leg (+1 NQ +3HQ)

    Now if the equation is true... we're looking at roughly 90% chance of counter attack here o_O if the base is 15% this will get even higher than 100.... Really, too good to be true....

    So does anyone know if this equation is accurate? If not how does counter and counter stance calculate?

    Chance to counter factors in other things. For example: Your accuracy vs Mob Evasion. Try to counter tank a THF NM...you will never counter them during Perfect Dodge...ever. I'm not sure the % upgrade, but also don't forget that Melee Gaiters improves the counter

I believe Counter Stance multiplies base Counter by 3x, then adds in items...but I have no proof of that

      It should be noted that counterstance removes all DEF modifications from gear/spells and reduces your DEF to half your VIT. It's a bad idea to use this against anything with a physical AoE move (rabbits), or one that has a powerful single hit AoE (goblins), or anything with really high evasion (THF monsters).

        Re: how does counter stance work?

        (Counter*CounterStance)+(Items+Merits)*acc=Counter Chance is the current math as far as I know.

        Counter=15
        CounterStance=3
        Merits=1-5
        Items=%
        Acc=.05-.95

        So with just counter and counterstance and no merit or items you got 45% chance but once you add in your acc agianst the mob in question it drops.

        45*.05=2.25%
        45*.75=33.75%
        45*.95=42.75%

          Re: how does counter stance work?

          Ahh interesting. So there isn't any real base percentage but that 15 as an initial value for calculation.

          I'm a but confused on the order of equation. We do this
          (Counter*CounterStance) = 45

          Then assuming I have +20 counter from gear
          (Items+Merits) = 20+5 = 25

          Now do I do (45+25) x ACC or 45 + (25 x ACC)?
          If it's the first equation we can archive somewhere around 70% counter with enough accuracy.

            Re: how does counter stance work?

            Yeah Jei I messed up my math sorry about that, little rusty >.<

            {(Counter*CounterStance)+(Items+Merits)}*acc=
            (CCS+IM)*ACC=
            CCSIM*ACC=
            CCSIMACC

            For your setup it would be 70% before acc is taken into account and if your hitting the celling with your acc which is 95% that would lower your counter rate to 66.5 but to be in a more real world scenario lets go with 85% acc rate then you would counter 59.5% or the time. One thing to remember even tho your countering at a good rate but any hits that get thru will smack you around good because your def is worthless. Countering is uber when you are farming worthless mobs but going up against gods they will distroy you.

              Re: how does counter stance work?

              My LS won't let me use Mnk for gods probably they'll want my Rdm and Blm >.>
              Which is ok, I'm going to use Mnk mainly in merit PT and farming EP-EM I hope.

              Now I read on other forums and people say they keep counter stance on all the time while merit, especially in KRT. Is that really an efficient way to go? Because I also read that the counter rate is not really worth the defense you lose and I'm not sure which one I should follow.

                Re: how does counter stance work?

                CounterStance in KRT is more personal preference. If you can roll thru the mobs fast enough I would say go for it, they are only going to get a few swings at you and if you get a few counters in they will die(or redie) faster. I would get the opinion of the back row and your fellow monks before you start tho, to make sure everyone is on the same page.

                Some monks like to cycle thru who is tanking the current mob so the WHM can regen who ever was last up to bat to save mp and keep chains going.
