  • Speed of attacks

I finally started leveling with a party and I have a question: are MNK attacks slow or am I screwing something up (hopefully). Playing solo I didn't have no problems but playing with other people around the same level it seems they hit a lot faster.

I'm at lvl 16 and I think the equipment is half way decent:

    - Bastokan Knuckles
    - Monks Headgear
    - Bone Earing
    - Power GI
    - Legionnaires Mittens
    - Courage Ring
    - Bastok Ring
    - Rabbit mantle
    - White Belt
    - Linen Slopes +1
    - Light Soleas

No. They'll get faster as you go on.

      Re: Speed of attacks

MNK attacks aren't neccessarily slow. Each round of attacks you're hitting twice while other melees only hit once a round. Think of your dmg as the same as a two handed weapon split over 2 fists. It's the same concept as a nin. As mentioned above, as you get higher you get more Martial Arts traits and you will attack faster. Pay attention to the delay on the weapons you choose too. MNK weapons add delay to your attacks, so if you really want to attack faster, choose a weapon with less delay. Though honestly you're better off getting the most base dmg you can get. Speed of attacks for mnk isn't that big of an issue and higher dmg will help ws and normal attacks against high def mobs. It may seem like you're slower but mnks have really good DoT due to the consistency and speed of their attacks, so don't sweat it.

        Re: Speed of attacks

Every 15 levels monk gets a Martial Arts trait with 6 total. Each one lowers your base delay. Take your base delay and add the delay your weapon gives. For you thats 380+86=466. Monks get very fast as you level.

        H2H Delay
        non-monk=480
        monk 1=400
        monk 15=380
        monk 30=360
        monk 45=340
        monk 60=320
        monk 75=300

          Re: Speed of attacks

Even at 75 with 300 base delay and a bit more from a weapon, you're still looking at 6 seconds between attacks. All the other stuff we get lends itself to the appearance that we attack quickly, though.

We have access to some Haste gear. Additionally, the 6 second clock starts as soon as you throw your first punch. Then comes the second punch. Then comes a Double Attack proc. And maybe another Double Attack proc. And here comes a kick! And then maybe a counter. And...the 6 seconds is just about up.

With regard to Haste gear, a couple common considerations:
Brown Belt (8%) knocks off 28 delay from 300+60 delay.
Haste spell (12.5%) knocks off 45 delay from 300+60 delay.
That's 73 delay gone right there, so that brings the actual delay down under 5 seconds the visible delay close to maybe 3 or 4.

No matter how you slice it, 360 Delay is a miniscule ammount. You attack twice, so that's basically almost the same as 3 seconds per first. That's a dagger swing. And that's not counting belts and kicking. It's true that animations lend themselves to create the illusion of even greater speed, but a 75 MNK is very fast as it is.
