  • A Crying Shame

    /cry

Thats what I've been doing ever since the last bits and pieces of my farming profits came in. I've scrapped enough together so I can do personal upkeep after buying a pair of Spartan Cesti.

    I want Spartan Cesti.

I've wanted them since I first travelled to Jueno and saw a pair for sale, in Feb of 2004. The name, and the prestige of having them have called to me.

Plus, if anyone has read Gates of Fire or anything about the Spartans, you'd want them to.

    The kicker...?

    Nobody is selling any.

      xD
Xerxes' troops were basicly slaves pushed into war. They only wore cloths and hardly any armors. No way they can match Sparton phalanxes armed with bronze from heard to toe.
      Yea Sparton were awesome nonetheless.

~1.6mil... but thats not the issue

Xerxes army was outfitted and train for war on the open plains, light and quick. They had nothing to match the heavy troops and defending tactics of the Spartans. They also had not 1/4 of the discipline, even among the Imortals.

Which is why I put "imho" on my post. I've owned Spartan's and Cross Counters and CCs blew Spartan's out of the water for me. My parses backed this up as well.

                Re: A Crying Shame

I don't doubt that CC's would blow SC out of the water. If I could afford those, I'd have them. CC's are 6 times the price.

In my price range, the only choices are T.M. Hooks + 2 and Spartan Cesti. I choose the Spartan Cesti because I like them better, I think they offer more of what I want, and because of the badass heritige.

I may at some later date buy T.M.Hooks +2 and try them out, as they are a bit cheaper than Spartans.

CC's are quite a ways off in my future.

                Cross-Counters = DMG+19/DELAY+96 (
                Spartan Cesti = DMG+20/DELAY+113

The Cesti add about 5% more damage, and they do it about for 15% more delay. The math is all out there for you and I to see, but that wasn't the point of the thread.

According to this thread the dps difference is between 0.16dps (at my level) and 0.7dps (at level 75, fully capped, and stuff). As to the T.M.Hooks+2, the only argument for them is the +Attack.

The point is, sell me some spartans, grrrrr.

                  Re: A Crying Shame

You can do a BCNM for it if you really want it but you have to be lv60. I think the one that drop the spartan is the ones with the Yagudo. You'll need a Blm for Sleepga II and a Rdm to help him keep the birds asleep then try to get powerful Nin, War, Mnk...etc and finally someone to keep you guys alive and hasted hopefully. You should be able to win most of the time if your PT is good. However, the spartan is not a sure drop though, you can ask to buy it if it drops.

If it doesn't you can aim for the specs which will be a good equipment or sell it to buy the Cross-Counter.

Btw, I think if you factor in the damage of your fist plus the weapon damage then the increase in DMG of the spartan will not be as high as 5%. Skill 200/10 = 20 => 23 base DMG so, Spartan will be 43 compare to 42 of CC. But this also means the added delay shouldn't be much of a problem since you need to add like 340delay to it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but at level 58 I believe you'd have a base DMG of 22, and a base Delay of 340. In other words, you're actually gaining 2.4% DMG and giving up 3.9% Delay. In addition to this, you would have to melee for a straight 193.63 seconds in order for the speed in Cross-Counters to give it one full attack round more than Spartan Cesti. I assume most battles end in under 3 minutes, so the speed difference should be a non-factor. If you ignore the +Counter on CCs, it seems Spartan Cesti are just as good.

Actually I probably could have worded that a lot better, and I meant to come out with the conclusion you had. Yes, you are right.

FERAL FANGS!!!!!! Same dmg/delay as cross counters. I don't think you can wear them yet though. In my opinion, TM+2 is better than spartan anyway. I don't like high delay weapons on mnk.

I kindof like high delay. But yea, I'll probably check out feral fangs when I can wear them.
