    im starting a monk for my main and since i dont really like war what should my 1st and adv sub be when i get 30

    Warrior is the only viable party sub for mnk at this time. Some people will say you can have some success with sam, but that wouldn't be until higher levels, and most people disagree with that.

    There are a few guides at the top of the monk forum which are very useful - as is the search function.

      WAR

      if you don't like leveling WAR that much, i'd suggest you not be MNK. there are some cases at the high levels where /nin might work, but guess what? to level NIN you need /war

        True, ninja works in some cases but I've been advised not to try that until level 74 - and then it's only useful in soloing. Parties won't really take a monk/nin seriously, as ninja as a sub doesn't add much in the way of damage dealing, which is the monk's role.

                Berserk is delicious and that defensive bonus has its shining moments at times.

                You're going to want:

                /WAR - For PTs and general use. Double Attack, Berserk, Attack Bonus. All just delicious with MNK

                /THF - For varied PTs. I pretty much only saw /THF during 65-70, when everyone without a THF wanted SATA+Dragon Kick. Pretty much they only use I see of subbing /THF.

                /WHM - HNM. Monks aren't allowed to touch things like Fafnir or Behemoth or Kirin. /WHM provides a MND boost so our Chi Blasts do 2000+ damage. Strangely, when you're asked to sub /WHM, you somehow know you're gonna die more often.

                /NIN - Varies. Some people like Monks to sub Ninja due to the fact we can pull such amazing hate. Most of the time, if they ask you to sub Ninja, you can take it as a compliment that you just do too much damage with /WAR.

                /DRG - End game. Slightly contriversal, you sub /DRG with mass haste gear. It's a nice idea and the applications are kinda nice, but I prefer /WAR myself. Then again, you need full haste gear if you want to be accepted as /DRG.
