    Re: Monk an expensive job?

MNK isn't any more expensive than most other DDs - it just has a wider selection of overpriced pieces of gear that provide marginal improvements in damage. Just because it's expensive, doesn't mean it's required, or that it'll give you a tremendous advantage over anyone. Take Sonic Belt for example - I wouldn't pay over 1 mill for a waistpiece with 6% Haste as a MNK, and even then, I'd rather be wearing Life Belt or even Purple Belt. Emperor's Hairpin and Leaping Boots/Fuma Kyahan are fairly worthless and can easily be replaced by Merc. Hachimaki and Windurstian/Federation Kyahan. Ochiudo's Kote IS a great piece of equipment, but hardly necessary - if it were, where does that put WAR, DRK, and DRG, that don't have access to it? They do great damage regardless. O-Kotes can be replaced by the Gigas line of bracelets. Jujitsu Gi is also nice, but again, other jobs don't have an Acc+4 body piece at those levels, and MNK already has an Acc advantage (most H2H weapons have Acc on them anyways, and MNK gets Focus.)

I'd say try to get the belts, Jujitsu Gi, and the gigas line of bracelets.

A lot of the good equipment for MNK can be quested, which is a very nice bonus. If you are into NM camping then you can pick up even more good items for "free".

Basically, if MNK is your first job to get to a high level (65+) then don't sweat not having all of the million gil items. There are affordable replacements for all of them. BUT - do get the ones that you can (example: questing for Brown Belt once you reach 52+).

At 65+ you can farm just about anywhere in the game like a pro on MNK so you can rake in some serious cash.

MNK is nice because even if you don't have all of the top of the line gear you still do good damage, but it is noticeable when you do get some of the upgrades. Don't kill yourself trying to get a Scorpion Harness or Cross-Counters though.

What you have to realize is that the monks with jujitsu gi and o. kote stand around 3 hours waiting for party just like the ones without. Then when they get into the party, they do a bit more damage, and either speed up exp by 1-2%, or get themselves killed/soak up whm mp because the tank can't handle the extra damage and slow down exp.

Not saying those items are useless, but they really aren't that important for exp. And nobody will be invited based on them, because people considering inviting you generally don't know what equip you have anyway. They will base it on past experience with you (were you a jerk or annoying in conversation? Did you come to pt unprepared with food etc., get aggroed on the way to camp, go AFK a lot or without notice, attack sleeping mobs, screw up the SC, MB or SATA, leave the party without warning?), your level, exp TNL (if specified in your comment), subjob and level (and subjobs listed in your comment - someone who has and advertises multiple appropriate subjobs is more likely to take the job seriously), rank (high rank often indicates a more experienced and dedicated player, and therefore often a more skilled one, if you don't have any better indicators). After that, maybe race and gear advertised in comment (if you don't advertise it, they don't know you have it).

Personally, I consider a lot of gear advertising a warning sign, especially when combined with low rank and/or a lack of other useful information in the comment (i.e. TNL, other subjobs if it's a main that has multiple useful subs). It may be a gil buyer or account buyer who thinks their gear will make them good. A genuinely experienced player would know that while good gear is nice, other factors are more important and should be given more prominence in the search comment. Fear any player who defines himself by his gear - if he's in your party.

To the couple of posters on this thread who are mistaken- MNK CAN NOT equip leaping boots. I wish we could but we can't.
