I am about to hit level 41 with my monk. Are there some pointers on chi blast and how to use it and when to use it? Still sketchy about its proper use

Re: Chi Blast
Be careful of stacking a lot of Boosts and using it as a first attack in a party as more than likely it will cause you to get lots of hate. If you are the initial provoker for a Thief though, you can use it on purpose to gain initial hate. Chi Blast damage is increased primarily by the Boost job ability and also +MND stats. You can use it to claim a mob quickly if for some reason you are designated as the puller in a party but its range is quite limited and the /recast is a bit too long to be used for pulling all the time. Also Chi Blast is particularly useful on mobs with high physical defense as Chi Blast doesn't count as a physical attack. Other than that, use it whenever you want to add an extra hundred or so damage.

Re: Chi Blast
I'd wondered about this. I mean I've seen it used against Gods, but never really know how it was supposed to be used in an EXP party. I've partied with a MNK for quite some time, but he only really used it every once and again.
I know you could Boost the hell out of it. I've seen videos of 1400dmg Chi Blasts. (Kirin then immediately smothered the poor Hume MNK, but the damage was wicked!)Odude

Re: Chi Blast
For an EXP PT, just boost as much as you can and fire it off. Don't be too concerned with swapping in MND gear. While doing a lot of damage is always good, in an EXP PT, you're wanted more for your punching than your Chi Blasting.
If you do want the max Chi Blast damage though (just for numbers sake), start boosting, and moniter your attack. Note down your attack at each boost. Unless you eat attack food, your attack can tell you when it's almost time for Boost to run out.All spells obtained!

Re: Chi Blast
Not that I want to rain on your parade but just for your own sake. And any other monks out there that aren't aware of it yet. Attack has absolutely nothing to do with chi blast damage. You can 'boost' 12 times before 'boost' fades ( could be 11 I've been outta the game awhile) if you 'boost' on the moment it refreshes everytime. Which is how you get the damage you're talking about 1400 etc on Kirin. It's the number of times that you 'boost' and your mnd that effects the damage, not your attack numbers.75Mnk/37thf/38war/32whm Retired

Re: Chi Blast
Here you go, check this thread out. http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/sho...0&page=1&pp=10 . It has some good info if you can weed out the flaming. You can also check out me being a prick to Effen for no real good reason , which is something I like to think is uncommon. ;p75Mnk/37thf/38war/32whm Retired

Re: Chi Blast
I always wondered...people talk bout swapping the AF gloves for Devotees, but I read somewhere else that swapping out AF gloves cancels the boost effect you get...is that just for the attack numbers or is that a load of horse pucky? Just trying to figure out the best possible for Chi Blast. All spells obtained!

Re: Chi Blast
It doesn't cancel out the bonus you get from your gloves. I think if it did, your attack would drop to whatever your base attack is. And if you take them off with attack at 999 ( easy number for reference) your attack won't drop to 300 or whatever your base is. With personal experience when I would swap them off for Devotees my chi's were good and if taking them off cancelled boost, you'd expect that I would have been chi blasting for around 300 dmg heh.75Mnk/37thf/38war/32whm Retired

Re: Chi Blast
Um no, like I said when I swapped them out for the mnd gloves. I still had high Chi blasts.75Mnk/37thf/38war/32whm Retired

Re: Chi Blast
Just curious, but what kind of damage would a EXP party Chi Blast do? You Boost a few times before the pull, and then let it fly? What's safe/acceptable/usual Boosting for Chi Blast in this instance? I heard somebody mention about 6 times, but what kind of damage is that going to do?Odude

I'd suggest Boosting maybe 4-5 times and letting it fly for about 160~ damage. Shouldn't get any hate then, at least not enough to override Provoke. Usually if your party has a good puller, you won't even get to boost that many times before the mob is in camp and you have to engage it anyway, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Gotta love Manaburn parties
