  • Does MNK have any uses in...

Promyvion, ZMs, COP's missions, BCNMs, regular missions, HNMs (god and non-god), etc.?

I want to know if we're useful, as a sought after class by HNMLSs, or we just something that contributes decently and not really looked for.

    Thanks!

I know I'm not a MNK, but read up alot since I plan to be one in the future. MNK can do some top damage with Chi Blast. Get all the MND+ gear you can, 12 Boosts, Chi Blast, watch the monsters HP move You should have 2 sets of gear, 1 set of Melee gear, and 1 set of Chi Blast MND+ gear, swapping in and out when necessary. I've recently been going on HNM Raids with my Linkshell, the MNKS have gotten 800+ dmg with Chi Blast, so I would say, yes, MNK are definatly wanted by HNM LS.

If you want to join an HNM LS, on the hardest of hard HNM you'll most likely expected to be a chiblast whore. Now, some find this boring, you just boost up to max with all the mnd+ gear and food you can get, but it is very effective due to the fact that you can boost outside the alliance and be invited for 10 seconds to chi blast. 1000+ dmg per chi on average for lv75 mnks id say.

MNK are actually better at specialty things than the regular EXP grind I found. You are a solid damage dealer in EXP parties, but when it comes to BCNM, NM, and HNM, MNK are effective, powerful, and even a little self sufficient.

You already have your large damage output, and you can even do this with Chi Blast when a HNM requires it. On top of this, you have high HP and VIT so you can take a lot more punishment from attacks like AOEs. You also have Chakra for healing HP (and several status effects so your mages don't have to heal them), and Dodge for surviveability in close quarters.

You can be an emergency tank if needed, and if all else fails you have what is probably the most damaging two-hour ability in the game in Hundred Fists.

MNK are not always the top of the chain when it comes to some things (for example, you still can't compete with mages and real tanks), but you are definately high up on the list of useful endgame jobs.

What about Chains of Promathia BCNMs and Missions? What about Zilart Missions, what about Promyvion and BCNMs (40 especially)?

Well I have not done any CoP missions since I quit the game before it came out so I can't comment on those.

I had no troubles at all in any of the Zilart missions. Again, in a BCNM battle the more self sufficient the melee can be, the more the mages can focus on other important things. MNK excels at this with Chakra, high HP, Counter, and Dodge. This especially helps with ZM4, ZM6, ZM8, and all of the Ark Angel battles.

I did many BCNM 40 runs, and MNK makes an excellent primary puller (throw a Pebble, use Dodge and then Chakra when you get low), and a high source of damage at level 40 (not as high as RNG, but still higher than most other damage jobs).

promyvion- useless, i did dem, and tried many a mea/holla w/ monk we just arn't worth it, if you want to do these take your war sub, get /nin (should already have anyways) and main tank, you just help everyone this way

zm's - you with groups, the ones you need for sky are pretty easy, especially w/ 70+'s

bc40 - your pretty the best melee, you can take a few hits and deal great damage

rest of CoP - alot of it looks/is easy, a few of the fights are pretty hard but for the moment are optional and not 'needed' but ya again rng is generally better

Also, if you're 75 and have upgraded hand-to-hand combat skills you will have access to Raging Fists at level 40. It is far and beyond the most powerful weaponskill at this level provided you land all the hits.

Even though the level cap is 40 in some CoP areas and in BC40, merit points still are in effect.

As for Zilart missions, a mnk/nin can main tank anything pretty much the whole way through. Even if he's not the main tank, you'll most likely draw aggro anyway, so having utsusemi is invaluable (especially in the Ark Angel and the final BC battles) for saving your mages some MP.

I've definatly found myself useful in many ls events, such as bc's, af's, and missions. As mentioned monk make a tough, durable job. I find myself pulling hate sometimes from tanks 5 lvls up, and i can survive being knocked around a bit from random stuff outside xp. MNK/NIN is very strong, and with a healer can be very surprisingly tough. Can't say i've gotten much a chance to chi for dmg yet, but obviously that is another benifit.

Later in the game if you establish yourself properly, you become a favored melee. Monk is definatly a fun job, even if it is boreing in xp pt's.

CoPs, not useless... but it's kinda difficult, i usually go with war/nin or rng/nin, the CoP missions were not really made that well imo

HNMs (sky gods, land HNMs) they are all ok, mnks do decent dmg every 3 mins (chi blast) highest for me was 1460 on kirin.

BCNM 40s - very good, actually 40s are super easy, as long as you have a good bard any melee can do it

BCNM 50s - no experience, so i cant say anything bout it

BCNM 60s - decent, as long as you are decently equiped (no need snipers and stuff), can do decent dmg, antican BCNMs are the easiest

BCNM 30s kindred - uncapped ones, only tried "Scarlet King", which is only 1 manticore, was quite a challenge, had to sub nin for it, low dmg but my job was to start up SC as soon as possible, so i used the +0 delay cestis

regular missions, they are designed to be done by everyone so there shouldnt be any problem here
