    mmm mnk/thf SATA can be much better then war in the right pt.

    Also quite useful in a 4 melee pt config where you can TA WS, SA WS, and when it's your turn, SATA WS.

        I heard people would use THF/MNK to do SATA+ Raging fists... and it's supposed to be good damage...
        And it is. I remember leveling in my high 40's...on a good skillchain, I could take away nearly half a mob's health when closing a renkei with SA+Raging Fists.

        It's not to bash WAR sub at all...but THF as a MNK subjob really should be considered more acceptable pre-60 than it is.

          /thf has a gimped SA. /war will still do more DOT. It's not worth it.

            thf/mnk is pretty cool in KRT bone parties, SATA onto one of the other monks makes a nice damage spike, plus thf/mnk can kinda keep up with the mnk/wars

              Comparing and contrasting WAR and THF. I've highlighted everything that I consider to be an especially useful added ability:

              WAR sub:

              - Better STR, HP and MND bonus...Berserk, War Cry, Defender, Provoke...double attack, attack up, resist virus, defense up

              THF sub:

              - Better DEX and AGI bonus...Sneak Attack, Trick Attack, Flee, Steal, Mug...evasion up I & II, gil finder, treasure hunter I, resist gravity I

              WAR offers better DoT, and is undoubtedly an awesome sub...but like I've said before, THF can't be overlooked either, as it will give you better damage in lump sum - it really doesn't get the credit that it deserves.

              Meh...if only you could have the best of both worlds.

                I would like to politely refute you points.
                1. DEX and AGI are not terribly useful. STR is much better to boost for MNK.
                2. SA and TA are nice, but Beserk and Warcry are just as nice.
                3. Flee, Steal and Mug are useless for the party.
                4. Evasion Up is nice to keep yourself alive if you pull hate off the tank. However, the Attack and Defense Up and Double Attack traits are much better.
                5. Gil Finder and Treasure Hunter

                There are worse subs than /thf. However, there is also a much better one (/war). Why pick second best?

                  /Thf has it uses. I was in plenty of PT's where in lower dps in the form of /Thf was actually desired. Many whm's and tanks get annoyed pretty easily if the monk keeps pulling hate. Yes of course you can blame the tank or whatever. But not every Pt is perfect. Thf is also great before you get double attack with /war sub.

                    There is a method to my madness.

                    The added abilities that I boldfaced are the ones that I've found to be the most useful overall...not just for EXP PTs. For example, while not terribly useful in an EXP PT, Flee is very handy for travelling around cities and whatnot...treasure hunter for things like coffer key hunts, and so on.

                    I do realize that I didn't do a very good job of making the points in my previous post understandable. Hope this clears things up.

                        This game is party based. So when talking about the best sub for a job, it is about exp pts. So TH, Mug, Steal, Flee, et. are of no consequence. War is more beneficial yet its all the rage on my server to be mnk/thf.

                          This game is party based. So when talking about the best sub for a job, it is about exp pts.
                          I disagree. There's a lot more to this game than EXP PTs. Yes, leveling up is a big, big part of it...but there's also other plenty of other things to consider...quests such as AF, missions, Dynamis, HNMs, Ballista and the like. In my opinion, you have to take the entire spectrum of things you can do in this game into account.

                          Once you get to the endgame, the traditional subs suddenly become a lot less important in certain situations. For example, did you know that for HNM and certain BCs, a MNK would be stupid to sub anything other than WHM? The huge melee numbers suddenly don't matter anymore...it's all about the Chi Blast.

                            Yes, thank you very much, I know about endgame. But since that is NOT what the OP was addressing the point your making is moot. He is talking about pre-60. That is exp pts for the most part, hence my post.

                              I know the topic is about MNK/THF, but I still can't believe no one has mentioned about MNK/SAM? I dunno how high it can take you, but it's something to consider... and very viable for usage. Raging Fists love Store TP~

                                MNK/THF has taken too much bashing. I keep both subs leveled and whenever either gets a new ability that will affect my main i experiment with both and this is what i have come up with: Lvls 1-29 Mnk/War of course, but here's where the debate comes in, Lvls 30-49 I say MNK/THF destroys MNK/WAR. One critical every minute and a guaranteed critical WS everytime completly outweighs berserk. Also, I have heard alot of people say that the added defense is a factor, but if its a difference betwen taking 100 damage or 90 damage it really doesnt matter. I'm a monk, I know I cant take hits so why try? So also with /thf we have that nifty evasion bonus which is extreeeemly noticable. Now once you hit 50 then I believe /WAR completly outweighs /THF. But for all you mnk/thf's out there lvls 30-49 I say right on!
