  • Gear Question (again)

I'm currently 58 - I took a long time off of ffxi, and I'm coming back, having to earn all my gil back because I gave it all away to friends when I left ><; This is my planned setup once I hit 61:

    Weapons - CC's - 2,500k
    Head - AF
    Neck - Spectacles - 1,300k
    Earrings - Spikex2 - 23k x2
    Body - AF
    Hands - AF/Pallas
    Rings - Snipers and Suns - 560k x2 + 50k x2
    Back - Amemit - 35k
    Waist - Life and Brown - 45k + 300k
    legs - AF
    Feet - AF

    Total = 5,500k

This is a huge amount, but I've managed to scrape together 3,200k as of now, and I feel like my brain is frying from all the gil-making. Peacock charm would be nice, of course, but I think I'd die before I managed to make 10mil in order to include the charm. I cut 500k by choosing AF gloves over kote, and I guess my main question is -

How are CC's at this level? If the AH had T.M. Hooks +2, I'd get those - the spartan cesti delay seems to be a bit much. In terms of DoT and WS damage, does CC justify the cost? Or should I just go T.M. Hooks+1 >> Spartan Cesti?

I don't think I can farm much more before I go crazy... but if the difference is significant, I'll try my best.

    Finally, a few small questions:
    Master sitabaki or Republic Subligar?
AF Feet, Federation Kyahan, or Fumas?
Should I worry about getting amemit +1?
Lastly, is there a better alternative to M.C. Headgear for head armor?

IMO, the cross counters should be last on your list. They're such an insignificantly small fraction better than spartans, that your money would be alot better spent on, say amemet +1 (since you asked about it)

I'd suggest getting them only if you have *nothing* else you need to buy.

I'd vote for Republican Subligar over Master' Sitibaki +1.

      At least both of you are female so wearing subligars don't really dent your pride in anyway >.>;

I'll not comment on your orignal gear, but since you seem to be going all out I'll try to help with your questions.

Master sitabaki +1 is the best combination of defence, and offence for legs (+2 dex), and wins by default as af legs are defence oriented, and republic subligar has very sub-par defence.

I've always personally like the fuma's on my feet, as the dex from the af boots doesn't help a whole lot, and the haste especially combined with brown belt DOES make a difference.

If your going all out yeah, the amemit +1's stats compared to the non-hq'd are impressive imo.

And for the headpeace, the only thing that really comes to mind is Emporers Hairpin for the 3 dex, but i've always personally just worn my AF for the focus boost.

        Hope this helps

I would get Spartan Cesti instead of CC's. The difference is so miniscule that you will never notice.

CC's aren't used for their damage past 58 - they are used more for their +Counter. Unless you plan on doing some heavy counter-tanking then stick with the Spartans.

              Solution: /equip macros.

This seems like a no brainer to me. You pay, what 700k for the extra 5 ATK on the amemet mantle +1, but the +5atk republican subligar is a no-go because of low defense? Why? +5atk is more significant than +2dex from the sitibaki, and if you *do* take aggro, simply swap in your temple hose with an /equip macro. Problem solved, money saved.

I see monks with the masters sitibaki on my server all the time. . . and they're good monks too, but this gear, i just don't get the reason for it. It seems like a no-brainer that rep. subligar is better to me.

I wore the subligar for a long time. I eventually just got tired of the way it looked. Now, I can just swap dat files around so I personally don't look ridiculus. But the way you look is kind of important. If you look like a loon with red gloves, white gi, no pants (and since I'm a mithra, no shoes thanks to the RSE) you look ridiculous. You just look dumb if you're a level 50+ character and you're wearing a subligar and merc captains headgear. Doesn't really matter if they are better stat wise or not. Casters and non monks not in the know about our gear choices will wonder about their underequipped monk.

As to the original poster, emps hairpin or merc captains for headgear. Hairpin is more impressive, merc captains is better. Spartan Cesti easily beats out CC's. The damage difference is completely negligible, the price is not. Don't bother with sun rings. I used them up until I got my snipers. After 2 weeks of not using them, I sold them. By the time you can disregard accuracy enough to not need snipers, there will be better str rings available (technically there already are). Same deal with the brownbelt, which you need to camp anyway if you ever intend to get a black belt. For feet, your best bet is going to be kung fu shoes, unless your RSE adds 3 str. The 1 mill for them would be worth much more than the 1-2 mill more you'd be spending on CC's. Barring that, just use AF, it's free. Our feet slot is hands down the worst slot we have. Anemit +1 is very nice. I would use Enkelado's over over temple gloves, but I don't any stock into dex anymore. At 61 you should use coral earrings, not spike earrings. Same thing, onlu with -1% magic damage and a price tage around 5k.

I agree, the republican subligar are ugly. I wear temple hose around town. It's stats that matter in battle though, and PT members really think you're fighting pantsless, they'll either say something, or /check you, and if they still question your choice of pants, then, maybe you want different PT members

For me personally, it's Look > Stats...

I won't wear anything in my static that makes me look silly, and i'm not gimped...I think my overall gear is good enough to make my pants a non-factor, whether ya'll would agree with that or not...heh
