  • Soul Eater + Hundred fist = wow?

My mnk is lv14. I haven't unlocked drk yet... and I'm a thf.
I've talked to a few 60+ mnks around, and none of them have tried this, even to play around with.
I don't think mnk/drk is good for exp parties (/war dominates imo) but this isn't about that.
Have any of you mnks tried Soul Eater + Hundred fist?
How sick is it? Do you pretty much kill yourself from the fast hits draining your HP?
I'm picturing this in my head, and thinking "Damn, that's an assload of damage being dished out."

Thats like Kamikaze. Either you have enough healers for yourself or you just die.

This is something I actually tested a bit when I hit 60 MNK.

It was one of those big "what if" questions that I always thought about. Obviously, its not practical in any sort of EXP party, or even for a BCNM or HNM. It is purely for fun.

Anyway, I went out into Sauromugue and found a Cockatrice. A level 60 MNK/WAR takes about 20-25 seconds to kill one of these normally, faster if you use a WS.

Hundred Fists + Souleater kills them in 5 punches, and drains about 1/3 of your total HP. Not too bad, but it wasn't spectacular yet, considering it was a "Too Weak" mob and it was the only thing to hit in sight.

So I found something that would live longer. I used it against a Fallen Major in Garlaige basement. A level 60+ MNK/WAR can kill these solo in about 1 or 2 minutes depending on what moves are used on both sides. The H.Fists + Eater on these guys is pure suicide. Basically you get to flip a coin to see who wins - its about a 50% chance either way. Your HP drops so fast its unreal (so does theirs, but the problem with enemies is they have WAY more HP than players do, so this is an uneven loss). If you get lucky and the Major dosen't hit you much, you can actually take him out in about 20 seconds, and be left with next to no HP. If he gets off a few attacks though, you are going to run out of HP before he does.

Even with like 3 WHM chaincasting cure spells on you, your HP is going to drop like a rock. It is not practical for anything - simply a weird way to have some fun.

Something thats been suggested to me more often was to use one of those RDM En(element) spells before Hundred Fists. At least its added damage with none of the 'kamikaze' effect. Of course the extent of damage here would rely on the mob's tolerance to the element you choose and magic damage.

So i guess its less added damage but no cost in health.

Edit: I bet Galkas could have a lot of fun with the Soul Eater + Hundred Fists Combo lol.

SE HF with all my guilds healers behind me was Genbu's bane Don't dilly it unless you've tried it with some good backup!

Edit: Usually ends up with me tanking a hit or two = death but since monks are generally useless aside from chi on Genbu its great fun and does a ton of damage

Kamikaze (神風) means the divine wind. Maybe that's what you meant, but are you sure you don't mean something more along the lines of jisatsu (自殺), which means suicide? ^^

the english/american slang definition of kamikaze is "An extremely reckless person who seems to court death."

so no, his use of kamikaze is correct, he meant to use it, not jisatsu.

I've never heard of kamikaze used in that manner... so i really did learn something from this lol. I wasn't trying to be condescending, if that's what you mean though. I really didn't know that it is used like that as slang...

                    ka·mi·ka·ze

A Japanese pilot trained in World War II to make a suicidal crash attack, especially upon a ship.

                    a kamikaze mission.

                    kamikaze

n 1: a fighter plane used for suicide missions by Japanese pilots in World War II 2: a pilot trained and willing to cause a suicidal crash
If you define cowardice as running away at the first sign of danger, screaming and tripping and begging for the enemy no not see you. Then yes, Mr. Braveman, I guess I'm a coward

"Well I calculated the odds of this succeeding versus doing something incredabily stupid, and... I decided to go ahead anyway."

Want me to be honest with you?

                      Okay, here I go.

I think you're a Caucasian, not Asian. I also think you're a American citizen and raised under a strict Christian household. I think that you're dissapointed with your life so you think other cultures, such as the Japanese are superior or better to you because you like their culture all around (video games, anime, etc.).

I think you're pretending you're Japanese because you find them better. I also think that when you were a kid you used kamakazie as a slang term but grew out of it (not like there is anything to grow out of) because you don't want to insult them.

I think you pretend to be Japanese because you think them as superior and you want to be thought about like that as well. Basically, you're being a "attention whore".

I also think that you're the type of person to randomly insert Japanese words into a sentence because you don't understand their language and want to use as many JP words as possible for whatever personal gain you have.

I think you like sushi as well.

Agian, this is what I think but normally, I'm right about these types of things.

I wonder how this would contribute to Funguwari's statements...
http://www.livejournal.com/users/kiyonehime/8105.html (or, at least the comments)

I'm not here to take sides, but how have you not heard of kamikaze in that way? O_O

Annnnnnnd, in response to Effen's testing, what level are the Fallen Majors, and are their any other bones that you could try this on that would be safer?

first of all, this is a really old post.

                          second, i am chinese.

                          third, i am not religious.

fourth, i do agree that japanese culture is interesting, but above all, i maintain that my cantonese culture remains superior in music and movies.

fifth, i have never formally studied japanese. what i have learned is strictly from small interest from playing ffxi.

sixth, i didn't spend a lot of my younger years in the US. kamikaze isn't exactly street slang in china and hong kong.

and finally, i hate raw fish.

p.s. the comments referred to in my LJ are a result of a google'd Genbu. I basically copy/pasted everything from a Fushigi Yugi fansite. I have also never seen Fushigi Yugi.

I also don't know why I have to defend myself like this.... it's ridiculous.

I don't mean to flame, but Funguwari, this is ridiculous.

You pull up threads from months ago with inane posts, and make ridiculous assumptions and stereotypes about someone you don't even know. Way to make an ass out of yourself.
