Coffer Hunting...what IS it!? lol

I'm hearing TONS constently regarding coffer key hunting around lvl 45-55...

being that I'm getting here now, wtf is a "coffer" actually and why would it be important to start doing it?

I'm sure some of the higher level monks here can offer you a bit more enlightenment than I can, but I can give a starting explanation.

Items for AF quests are obtained by opening treasure *coffers* in dungeons, as opposed to the regular treasure *chests* which spit out items, gil, etc. That also means 2 sets of keys: chest keys, and coffer keys.

Ideally, alot of people try to get the hunts for their coffer keys done and out of the way before they accept the AF quests, so that when the time comes, all they have to do is find and pop open their respective coffers so they'll have their AF ready and waiting when they reach the level to wear it.

Anyways, I'm sure someone who's actually done all their AF could give more insight, but hopefully this gives you a basic idea of what goes on

Coffers for Monk are found in Crawler's Nest, Garlaige Citadel, and Beadeaux. You kill certain monsters that drop a _____ Coffer Key, and then you must find the coffer for that area. You cannot use a Coffer for benefit of AF until you have started your AF2, and are level 50. You talk to Guslam in the Upper Jeuno armor shop, he tells you about Coffers in different areas, then you go to these areas and kill the required monsters. It is best to wait until you are at least level 50 to attempt Coffer Hunting, you can likely get the CN Coffer Key by leveling off Helm Beetles around level 49-51. The other two I would wait a bit longer to attempt.

I must have been pretty lucky getting my Beadeaux Coffer Key... I went alone with a Thief, Dark Knight, Paladin, and Black Mage. Mainly we were getting the Black Mage his Testimony. After being there for like 30 minutes, a key dropped, I ran over to a Coffer, AF Body on my first ever try there.
