Galka monk, ONO, OYEZ?

I haven't made him yet, but I've heard some good things about Elvaan and Galka MNKs.

Now, before you guys go and give me the "Any race is good with the right equip", I just wanna know if it would be an up to make a Galka monk, or an Elvaan?

I like the HP boost from Galka, and the attack bonus from Elvaan..
Though I'm slightly pushed toward Galka as of right now..

Here I found this older topic for you. It's pretty much half the people claiming galka is the best, and half the people saying "No elvaan is"

Here I'll sum the topic up.

Elvaan-"OMG No we have about 4 more base str at 75, we completely outdamage you, and the best mnd for chi blast, yet still great hp and vit"

Galka-"Oh ya, no! OMFG stupid elvaans, we have 4 more dex, we blow your hit rate away and crit rate. Also we get the hate lots in bone parties even from pld tanks, our vit and hp are importent!"

No matter your choice of those 2 best choices it won't matter. Their differences in stats are not large enough to be considered importent, minus maybe the mind. But monk either a 2/5 or 3/5 rating in mnd, not enough to really make the difference that note-worthy. Don't let some idiot tell you 4 or whatever str or dex makes a world of difference. Both races function VERY much alike as a monk, go with what you think is cooler.

Think of the difference between the two as the difference between hume and mithra mages, oh wait their barely is any minus looks. Get my point?

ok here's what I can think of, but I'll probably miss a couple things since I just woke up

Galka:
+2nd highest str
+highest vit and hp (for chakra, back up voking)
+second highest mnd (chi blast)
+higher dex than elvaan (might help a very small amount when you first start)
-looks funny doing the Dragon Kick WS

Elvaan
+highest str
+second highest vit and hp
+highest mnd
-lowest dex
-looks like a 'tard running and emoting

I can honestly tell you that both Galka and Elvaan are fine for a MNK. They both make excellent WAR as well for when you work on your main subjob.

The differences are minor at best, and don't mean much when you start wearing the good equipment anyway. All of the Elvaan who say they are better for Chi Blasting HNM obviously never paid attention to the fact that when you wear stuff that gives MND+40, any race is going to have a huge Chi Blast.

Likewise, +4 DEX is hardly noticeable at 75, same with STR. If you want to equalize the differences with equipment, go ahead. MNK has access to plenty of +STR and +DEX options, along with +Accuracy gear.

The choice really boils down to what you want to look like. Do you want to look like an Elvaan, or do you want to look like a Galka?

I would suggest Galka, mnk and war are Galka's ace job, thoguh elvaan make fine mnk they have less accuracy than Galka, but also elvaan are stronger so it evens out, elvaans have better mnd for better chi blast, and Galka have more HP and VIT, if I were to make a different race monk just me, it would be Galka

Ninjas is going off topic, but ya either race, actually all 5 races make good ninjas. Well taru might be a bit weaker but as far as ninja goes yes all races can with tons of gil(Extermely costly job) do about equally well at ninja

The main problem with Galka monk at end game is MND. When most monks are trying to find as much MND gear for Chi Blast, Galka will have a tough time with their low base.

Dex is pretty much useless at the end game as accuracy isn't really a big problem. So if you want offense, then Elvaan is the way to go. It's not much, but they still have more STR.

I strongly urge you not to base your decision off of what will have the most l337 stats at lv75, and make your decision based off which race you like best. If you aren't happy with your character choice, and dont like the way he looks, moves, runs, etc. It will affect your enjoyment of the game alot more than some minor stat differences that will in no way affect how capable your character is.

kuroitsuru, you are correct. Galka is tied for second-higest mind behind Elvaan, our MND isn't low at all. Taru and Mithra have the lowest mind.

Elvaan and Galka MNKs are very similiar to where you won't notice a damage difference without logging their damage for a while, and maybe not even then. However, Galka does have certain advantages for exp'ing that, to me makes them the top option. Monks will have times where they're going to be taking damage. In an emergency, unless the PT has a Warrior, MNK is the next tanking option, especially if Hundred Fists is used :p Not to mention that MNKs start to do enough damage to take significant amounts of aggro. In these situations Galka's higher HP, VIT, and AGI will make them the tougher monk.

Besides, Elvaan monks just look a little silly to me :spin:

Agreed. You're going to be staring at your character so much that you better love the way he/she looks.

I'm kind of in that spot now where I want to be a ninja, but I don't really like the way my character looks as ninja... so I'm prepared to spend a big-ass amount of money and time levelling my first character from 1 in the Ninja AND Warrior jobs :sweat:

If I had chosen more intelligently I wouldn't be in this bind. I wish Square would let us change, once, for a big fee.

Yes, well that's a beautiful statement. Obviously you've studied at all of the heavy schools. Cambridge, Harvard and Yale to come up with such a glorious conclusion as "galkas are ugly~ elvaan are less ugly".

Christ. Anyways, yes it doesn't all too much matter what you choose, there will slight, (and brother....do I mean SLIGHT) dmg differences from the Dhalmel, if you're Galka. But by no means should this diminish your fun. Taru, Mithra and Hume ok too, you just really can't slack on the gear. You want STR gear, w/o crushing your ACC too much. Though, I guess that's said of all races.

Was simply supporting another point made about the aesthetic value of a character. Not all people are alike, some may like this or that better, even after going in with every intention of being the "best race."

I didn't realize I had to attend Harvard to be a part of this thread, I'll get right on that.
