  • Monk Gear Post AF

Ok, I know that the temple cyclas is better than my little jujitsu gi so ill be using that. But the rest of the AF isn't much better than the gear I have now. So my question is what do i need to upgrade between AF and saay level 65-70?

    My AF setup will be:

    Emp Hairpin
    Temple Cyclas
    Ochiudo's Kote
    Masters Sitabaki +1
Fumas (or Kung Fu shoes if i can get my hands on some)
    Snipers x2
w/e the attack earrings are (unless someone can recommend something better??)
    Spike Necklace (until Spectacles... right?)
Night Cape (Bat Cape.. but this is not a priority)
Brown Belt / Life Belt (depending on mob evasion)

And of course ill use my AF for certain situations (ja's and such)

What in that list should i focus on upgrading next? I just wanna know around how much gil i need to farm for so maybe I can get an early start. I dont have my AF yet, of course being only 41, but I have old friends willing to help me so it wont be a problem.

Oh and is the Emperor Hairpin the best MNK head piece until Opo Crown??

Thanks in advance for the help guys

If you're actually 41/20 as your profile suggests, you really don't need to worry about what you're going to do post-AF just yet. Chains of Promathia is only two months away, and that'll turn a lot of gear choices on their heads, I'm sure. Unless you're in a static, or have obscene amounts of playtime, it's unlikely you'll be 65-70 by the time CoP comes out.

rasetsu leg piece+1 or feet piece+1 if you like the counter and attack, there's nothing much to sub the emp hairpin

scorpion harness for the body if you are really rich.

to be honest, monk gears are very limited (the good ones)

I think that those new accurate earrings are better than spike and coral earrings. And unless you like fighting bare-handed spartan cesti or cross counters is best.

It's on that mystery tour site.

Accurate Earring 52 - All Jobs
              Accuracy+2

Not sure how you get them. It appears to be a garrison only item so perhaps I spoke a bit prematurely. Though I could be wrong.

Ear slot starts to get difficult to choose at higher levels, it seems.

From 16-52 it's pretty obvious that the +atk are the best choice....

However, by level 72 you have to choose from:

                Merman's Earring: +6 atk -4 eva -2% magic damage
                Accurate Earring: +2 acc
                Triumph Earring/Bushino...: +2 str

                12 atk? 6 atk, 2 acc? 4 acc? 6 atk, 2 str? 2 str, 2 acc? 4 str? Etc...

I'd have to say it's a tough choice between the accuracy and the str, because while 4 accuracy is nothing to sneeze at, neither is 4 str. Suppose you're landing 45 hits per fight (say...25 rounds, assuming war sub) with two of the +2 str earrings, for an average of 50 damage per hit, so 2250 damage per fight (assuming this is about right for the mid-high 60s+).

Switching to the +4 accuracy earring set, you're now hitting for an average of 46 damage per hit, meaning you'd have to land 49 hits per fight to surpass the +4 str set. That means it'd require a ~9% increase in accuracy, which seems...unlikely with a gain of only 4 accuracy, considering you should probably have at least +25 accuracy by this level, through gear, bard songs, whatever.

No confirmation on if the accurate earrings are garrison only or not yet, though, so it could be pointless to discuss. Personally I'd rate a +4 str earring set way higher than +12 atk (I generally rate 1 str ~= 5 atk or so).

Well, I myself was planning on getting the Triumph Earrings anyway, mind theyre a long while off with me being just level 60 so I dont see the need to stump up the cash for them right now.

The +accuracy ones do seem tempting though at this particular moment, however with PTs I join now favouring Howling Fist, I suppose I should stick with my Spike Earrings.

Thanks guys. I know I'm still low but MNK is somewhat one of the cheaper jobs IMO so I just wanted to get an idea of around how much all the stuff I'll need will cost so I can balance my farming with leveling.

Ung makes a good point about CoP hmmm. I hope they give MNKs some uber new weapons and maybe something besides ACC+1 to put in our ranged haha. I reeeeaally hope they dont nerf our job... All the other MMOs Ive played I got my class/job nerfed in :p

[edit] shh dont mention Scorp Harness... its the one piece of equip I dont think I can have by 57...
