mnk prices by lvl 40...kidding?

ive been asking around on some other forums about how much equipment costs...

any reason that mnk costs so much by lvl 40? might as well do ranger...

ochido's kote + jujitsu gi can be as much as 1mil alone..let alone all the other equip you have to put on.

why is mnk SOOO much more expensive than other jobs (aside from rng and nin) this early in the game?

im at 34mnk right now, and not happy to find out im "gimped" without the kote which ive seen anywhere from 350k-700k on my server...then need the Juj. Gi at lvl 40 which ive seen anywhere from 60-300k ...

just curious if i have this right, and do in fact need those pieces of equipment...

im aware that i can camp them, but not at the lvls they're needed by...can't camp those NM's that drop em in the 30's...so what's even the point to making them available by drop...so u can have them 14 lvls later than u need em?

pls respond..im not happy about spending 1mil+ by lvl 40 with a melee job.

Ouch, from what i've heard, you server is pretty bad on prices. The stuff needed for the level 40 on my server was...

Ochuido's Kote - 340k
Jujitsu Gi - 99k
Fuma Kyahan - 140k
Jujitsu Sitabaki - 6k
Brown Belt(Optional) - 240k

I see Monks all the time running around without the Kote. It definitely helps and makes you look overall better. But you may be able to get by with other equipment. This is the biggest point for a Monk, the rest of the stuff we need throughout the game isn't that bad, and the lvl. 40 stuff will last you till AF.

If you feel so strongly about it, simply don't buy it.

At the least, I advise you to buy the Jujitsu Gi if you can't be bothered to earn towards the Ochiudo's Kote. It'll last you a good 18 levels (you don't need to upgrade to Master's Gi) until Temple Cyclas.

So, the choice is yours; to buy or not to buy? However, don't come here at 40 and above and then rant and rave about you being outdamaged by other classes, or missing more often, or not getting parties after people /check you. :p

Jujitsu Gi = 150-200k
Brown Belt = 350k
Fuma = 150k
Sniper rings = 350-480k

mnk isnt the only expensive melee around 40... i'm getting 2 snipers at 40, they are going for 380k a piece on quetz, and at 43 i'm getting a valkyries mask, another 200-300k i believe. so yea, mnk isnt the only expensive one

sorry guys heh, im not trying to make it out like "im too good for mass farming for my job" not at all...

im just saying that this is one hell of a bite...i mean what am i supposed to do? stop lvling (not that that's the problem) and farm for 2 months straight (that's the problem heh)?

i have no problem with stopping lvling to farming, im not noob in that sense whatsoever, i understand how to play this game, and love it...as well as monk...it's sick. Im just saying that it seems a little extreme to require that much gil to not be "gimp" as early as lvl 34...for the kote alone.

if anyone's got any hints or tips about farming for mass cash at my lvls, please...im all ears...maybe there's something im not getting here...

and p.s. again i do want to stress to specifically JayBlah that I know how it comes across...like who TF am i to come on here with a rant regarding price...but that's not it at all man, i love monk, im good at it too...ive gotten down the timing on my abils and ws's perfect, and contrary to what some people say i am a monumental contributor to SC's of all sorts....i usually end them. THIS IS WHY (my love for the job and firm stubborness that i will NOT lvl gimp in any way) i got such a bad taste in my mouth when i see the kote goin for 350k+. I was going along fine till then. Basically what the purpose of the post here at this point in my rant is : HOW TF am i supposed to raise that much gil? if the simple solution is : farm for 6 weeks...ok, im not gonna switch my main, or give up, or put up a 5000 word rant about how "this game sucks"...ill do what i gotta do. I just wanna make sure that im on the realistic page, and that my farming is done productively, not in a way that works, but i could be making 10x the gil in the same amount of time ya know?

You don't need all that stuff. I would say the only thing you need is jujitsu gi. You could use the gigas bracelent line instead of the kote. Not nearly as good but it gets the job done. Brown belt is not necessary at all, most monks on this forum will tell you life belt is better for most situations (at least it seems like most, I know if not most, it's split pretty evenly). Fuma might be your best choice for feet slot but check your rse. I use mine instead since it adds +3 str.

they are good, but they are not necessary. Yes they are costly, but after that there's not much you can buy (cept for spartan cesti, or crosscounters, amemit mantle, new earrings, which other melee class would be buying as well) Yer AF can pretty much last you till 75, or forever.

if this is yer first job dont bother getting all the high end stuff yet, i never got my fumas, i only got the kote when i got my temple gloves (54), this is embarassing but i got my brownbelt at lvl74 just for farming, all these times i've been using life belt, i never got a jujitsu gi, i only bot the master gi when it was like 70k on my server, that only lasted bout 5 or so lvls then i switch to AF (ugly, so i kept my master gi), i never had a spartan cesti, i use feral fangs instead. I use darksteel knuckles so i can fool others into thinking i'm using crosscounters.. teehee.

Do all those quests, sell off the proceeds (except for any pieces of RSE you need, if any), and you'll be swimming in gil. All of those quests are easy to do solo; although I do recommend leveling whm to 20 so that you can sneak yourself and save money on the silent oils.

All told, those quests should net you around 500k gil, putting you within striking distance of whatever you need to buy. Sure, if you ever need to rebuy some of it, it can be a pain later, but it's a lot easier to farm for reasonable gil/hour at 50 than it is at 35.

jujitsu gi is nice, at level 40 you get +acc on your body, only three jobs can do that that i'm aware of, the rest of the melees have to wait for some HNM drop/synth if our server prices weren't so screwed up I'd say farm bcnm40, you can tank in that just fine, hell i do with my jujitsu, fed headgear, ogyogyo's braclets, fuma kahyan, and jujitsu sitabaki, str/dex rings (alternating depending on black or white mandy) hell i out tank a very skilled war friend of mine in bcnm40 after the black simply because i was doing soo much more damage

and yes, you can make some decent money off bcnm40, but not too great, you'd need to get a good drop every run

Elvaan RSE for your legs will last you, unfortionatly thats the cheap piece of equipment you need at 40 =)

level 40 is huge for monk, this is where you get a huge upgrade in equipment(that will last you a long long time) I think you need to *realisticly* plan on taking a week or 3 off to farm for the right items.

gi= 80K on my server. will last you until masters gi(which happens to go for the same price as the first gi)

80K, for 15 levels, thats really really cheap if you think about the span of time it covers.(especially once you get over 50 and see the huge jump in EXP, at 54 right now, freakin 16K to get to 55, and it only gets worse! =)

Kote-400K on my server. The earlier the better you get this, but reasonably most people get it around 40-41(due to chi blast and camping the NM) And if you ever camped that damn thing, you would realize why its so pricey. Im 0/5 on it, and probably saw it spawn 15 times. This guy is sooooooo over camped its unreal. You get to the camp ground, think ok only 3 other people, i have a shot. 10 mins before this thing spawn, 3 people log on, 2-3 other people show up out of no where and now your looking at 5-10 people camping this damn thing in a small area.
so if you get it around 40, you can use these till you get AF(and after AF a lot of people switch back and forth between the two)

Fuma Khayan- 90K on my server. Huge debate on this one, i liked them, then again i camped for this one(easier camp than the kote) went 1/11 on him, but got most of the spawns when he popped. Easier to kill than the kote. I just got my af boots yesterday and will be switching them out. 14 levels of use out of these guys. There are other options, but i love my haste =)

Brown Belt- 250K on my server. This one i debated on for a long long long time. If you go the lifebelt way, this thing will only last you 8 levels(not worth it, keep with the purple) I didnt do that, i liked the brown belt(brown belt +2 snipers instead) It will last me until i get my black belt(or something better comes along) So your looking at a 30+ levels from the thing?

820K that will last you at least 14-15 levels before you have to worry about upgrading(and the upgrade is AF, so no money spent, you get your investment back) Some of these items will last you indefinatly. We luck out due to the fact most of our weapons arnt that expensive and that impact knuckles will last you all the way till 48. Most ive ever spent on a weapon is 30K(tacticians magicians hooks at level 50)

Yes its a shitload of gil(more than you think you can ever achieve) but its possible with time. I personally think its expected for us to get these items at 40, this point in the game you do damage, nothing else. Some people think that since its a higher level item, its automatically better for you and that you should be using it. Forget about defense on items and worry about what stat they will effect and how it will effect your overall damage

Hehe now looking back i dont know how i got all that gil, i know i farmed 80% of it(if you dont mind 15-20K an hour, head to north gustaberg and farm the hill up there, the second and 3rd level killing bees, goblines and the occasional stinging sophie. I got the rest from BCNM(erase drop and phalanx, weee =)
