If anything, it's the MNKs that are on the biggest power trips in FFXI. Everywhere you go, in-game or on msg boards, it's "we do the most melee damage! DRKs are sooo overrated! we have the best DoT!" and then we have the countless legions of mindless tools who agree with this simply because they're MNks themselves. hell, this thread is littered with clueless MNKs. a few pages back, there's a dude who said something along the line of "they're way worse off if they ditched you for a DRK" this comment is prime example of a clueless MNK fanboy. A RNG's best friend is a DRK/THF. A WAR/NIN who's tanking's best friend is a DRK/THF. A team of RNG WAR practically begs for a DRK/THF. this team also has the single strongest 2 man SC in the game. Arching Arrows > Spin Slash and still put hate on the tank without having the need for someone to sub an inferiorfor job (MNK/THF). with all this facts, this clueless monk still insists that the static pt would be "way worse" with a DRK rather than a MNK.

And i'm willing to bet, 90% of these MNKs don't even realise how completely and utterly irrelevent Damage Over Time is to an exp PT. they just saw a meaningless graph and creamed their pants.

Oh, and more power to you if you only enjoy getting exp and playing. but you know what? its not fun when everyone is GROSSLY misinformed, thus hurting another job. this is the reason why you see so many NA players pass up DRK for MNKs, simply because they HEARD or READ that MNKs do more damage. Thus you have a bunch of DRK's sitting around bitching about how they never get PTs, even when they spend millions of gils on items. THAT is not fun. I'm merely here to set the facts straight.
at what point in this over-extended, frivolous plea for recognition did you ever... address the topic's purpose?

I really wish this DRK vs MNK squabble would end some day. It's getting very old..

Anyway, to get back on topic. I personally have noticed a good deal more invites since I passed level 60. The worst leveling time I had was from 50-60 for sure, that took me ages. The only problem I've got now, and I don't know if it's the same for anyone else, is that more and more static parties are popping up now. And due to my irregular playing hours, I'm probably never going to get a place in one.

You sir... don't know what you are talking about. Of course the Skill chain FINISHER <=== (read this) is going to do most damage. Sheesh how hard is to figure that out? Comparing Drk/Thf and Mnk/War then compare Drk/War and Mnk/thf then see what it comes up with.

My invites got better at 71. I got invites quite often at weekends when I put my search comment flag on. Surprisingly enough the Leader was a brd. I guess we are finally being recognised as qualty damage dealers on some places.

Not sure what he was pulling with(chi blast and ?), but in those circumstances he made an acceptible puller. I do understand monks are not ideal pullers and why. Its because of this reason, why i am sometimes hesitant to invite them with my pt's set up.

best peson to have you pull if you got one in your pt. rdm. have them pull with gravity. works wonders. he/she won't get eaten up on the run back

                  i don't care who it was directed at;
it was pointless and should be erased from existance before it makes anyone any less intelligent
tone down on your intake of prozac
and for future reference, please address monks individually and not as a whole.
not all monks are gimps, ego-maniacs, etc..
that would be the equivalent of racism or bigotry

I think some people have a misconception about what Damage Over Time means.

It DOESN'T mean "All Damage EXCEPT weaponskills." It means "Damage over any portion of time."

So, you are on chain 3, the puller comes back, and the party immediately begins a 3 man chain ending with a drk/thf and the mob is obiterated in 20 seconds. Spectacular! For that BATTLE, the DRK had spectacular DoT for the time frame involved.

When Monks refer to DoT, and claim to be superior, right or wrong, they are in general refering to longer time frames. They don't generate a big number like a drk will, but over the course of an EXP party, they do tend to deal more total damage.

BUT!!!! This isn't a bad thing for Dark Knights. DRKs have claimed the throne as the premier skill chain closers in the endgame, and I have yet to see any job put up the numbers they can every 6 minutes. It's not a big deal if you look at it in the terms presented as so: Darks deal more damage on skills chains, mnks deal more damage on the journey to 100% TP. They balance each other out, and a PT that can only deal damage on a skillchain is doomed just as bad as a PT that can only deal damage on normal attacks. If you reach level 65+ and think skillchains are ALL that matters, then you are a hinderance to your PT. If you reach 65+ and think skillchains DON'T matter, then the same can be said of you.

I'm not too sure why everyone wants to constantly compare drks and mnks, given the fact that all melees, in their ideal environment, can outdamage the other.
