  • Mnk AF...

Hi, I was wondering, I know my LS isn't there yet and my friend that's playing as a Mnk/War is wondering how many people do we need to take on the NM that drops the item required for your guys's AF?? I'm just curious since it has been bugging me to ask, and what perfect place to ask but here :D. Comments, suggestion would be awesome. Thanks in advance

      AF1 - Party of 55+ or a couple 60s. I soloed it for a friend at 70.

      AF2 - Alliance of 50-55, 2 parties of 55-60, or 1 party 65+

      AF3 - Alliance of 60s, 2 parties of 65+, 1 party 70+

Thats more or less what you need to be a guaranteed win. AF2 is kinda risky cause there are tons of orcs around that will link or aggro when you fight. The yag for AF3 isn't all that hard, if you have a high tank to absorb 100 fists it'll be np. He just has tons of HP and counters a lot.

I've seen a video of AF3 (yagudo) done with just one group of level 60s. Pld absorbs the hundred fists with invincible, the rest of the fight was just standard tactics. If I recall, they had pld, mnk, rng, blm, whm, brd.

I sure hope AF1 doesn't take a group of 55s to do...I was planning on soloing it at 55 hehe. The fact that you have to eat a level 45 or 50 or whatever NM for weapons that are about as good as level 20 weapons is just retarded. At the least, they should be 10/48 instead of what they are.

AF2 I've heard you can do "solo" by training the orcs away, taking the death with a scroll of reraise, wait till they depop then accept the auto-raise and check the hide flap? Not sure.

AF1 - I did this with a pt of 45s I think it was a close fight thou, i cant remeber too well :\
At 59 I thought i would help some lvl 40 monk with it and at the last chance I invited a WHM and if it wasnt for him I would have died hehe

AF2- You can solo this if you dont mind dieing hehe The fei'yin part is easly solod with sneak oils and if you use a scroll of reraise before you spawn the NM's then run to a safe spot to die. Then you just wait fer NM's to de-pop , raise , exaime the flap again (it moves around the clearing) , and get the item.

AF3- This guy aint too hard he just has a insane counter rate and a ton o HP

To clarify on the AF2 you don't need to die...

I had a whm friend, nms appear, he banishga's, trains to zone, and i got all the time in the world to find what i need

AF2 can be done alone(literally alone), bring an instant warp, sub 25 thf, and run like no tomorrow to find the flap... though I just got a JP person farming there to help me with it...because my THF is 22...

Sorry, I should've been specific on my question ; ;, but i was wondering on AF1, but thank you for your responses, this helped out so much. I guess we won't be getting AF's until we're reasonably around 55+, which kinda sucks since the weapon pretty much looks like isn't as good at the weapons you guys get after.

Well I kinda cheated for AF1. I received the quest as monk (42) then switched to 70 rdm and went to gusgen. Traded to ??? spawned the ghost. Pro4, Phalanx, stoneskin, shell4, enfire, haste, refresh. 0 damage. He surely had tons of hp tho... Not sure how I am going to do against AF2 orcs. The mnk type has 6000hp, and pld? type has 10k hp according to Shitabara boards.

I wouldnt worry about af1 so much, its not as though its actually worth wearing. I got mine at 41. with another 41 monk and a 70 blm, and that was a hard fight because of the lack of a tank lol. I was all excited about getting it as quick as possible, then when I got it, I never bothered to wear it ; ; Just as well to leave it till lvl 50 so you can have an easier time of the quest and unlock your next Af's.

Though tonight I will be doing Brd af1 simply because that weapon isnt actually too bad.

I got a level 75 SMN to help me with the NMs for AF2.

...That was the most powerful Carbuncle ever.

Anyone have any reccomendations for getting the Beadeaux coffer key?

Beadeaux is probably MNK's hardest key (but only because of the mobs and areas you have to fight to get them, finding the actual coffer its self takes about 2 minutes tops ).

Its tough to avoid links while pulling Quadavs. You will usually want 2 full PTs of 55-65's, or one very strong single PT (like majority 65+).

The two key camps I see used most often is the 4 door room near the boss area, and the long hallway near the last Mute. I prefer the long hallway as the 4 door room is pretty cramped and you won't really be able to see whats going on.

For coffer locations, 90% of the time it will be in one of the 4 door rooms. If not, its down by the Mute hallway, so its likely you will actually find coffer locations before keys start to drop.

I've been holding off doing AF3 because of what I read on fan sites but so far in my AF quests I've found every party recommendation entirely overkill.

We did Beadeax with this party, and it was pretty easy.
                          58 blm/whm
                          58 monk/war <--- me
                          58 pld/war
                          58 pld/war
                          52 brd/whm
                          58 rdm/smn

When we GOT to Beadeux, everyone was 57 except the bard.

Never rested, never had downtime. Rdm carbuncle pulled to ensure we had no adds. On the occasion we did get adds, in general we were ok. Over the course of 3 days (needed 3 keys) rdm died once, bard died once, we used escape once.

We fought up in the small room (so no wandering adds) with 4 doors and carbuncle was our best friend.

Sure, we've been doing all the coffers together so we're pretty in-tune at this point, but still, I read all kinds of stuff about how hard these are based on level.

Castle Oztroja is the last place we need to go (rdm coffer), I'm going to convince my PT to try the NM there and escape if it goes poorly. I'll let you know.

Yeah, I spotted the coffer every time I went to try and camp there, but everyone got slaughtered before we could get a key...

The monk AF3 mob hits like a sissy but counters a ton. Aggro management was a pain because it has no defense so damage dealers take an inordinate amount of hate.

I ended up tanking him for the majority of the fight because my damage ended up being so high. I was level 60 and opened up with a 300% Howling Fist for 914 damage. My standard damage on him was much higher than I suspected it would be. Around 70 a fist without a crit. I guess we just expected more def on him. The PLD used Invincible and the mob didn't turn from me... we been noticing some very strange results from invincible though, so maybe he was immune to the hate portion (saw this on Ninja AF1 a while ago too.)

The biggest problem then, of course, was his counter rate. The PLD couldn't have cared less if he was countered, but the guy would counter both of my attacks in a single round sometimes.

                              To sum up Monk AF3-
-Full PT of 60's shouldn't have any trouble if you have lots of mana in the PT.
-heavy damagers should be prepared to take some damage.
-Fighting The Savage was basically like fighting a VT low defense low evasion yagudo that has *a lot* of HP. (that 914 damage howling barely moved his HP bar.)
-Try to stay behind him when not holding hate, he doesn't counter there.
-It's a long fight, I zerked/dodged/focused at the start and did it again when his life hit 50%

NO WAY would this take a full alliance of level 58's. We basically ended up with 2 PT's 54-60 and absolutely massacred the guy.
