MNK/THF or MNK/WAR??

Which one is better at higher levels? Isnt war less effective because at higher levels monks should not be tanking?

What are some Pros and cons of each, and which one would u reccommend?

MNK/WAR- Berkserk, Double Attack, Passive Abilities, Warcry.

MNK/THF- A few extra points of dex and AGI. Sneak Attack is nerfed to a normal crit. Trick Attack... Meh, Berserk and Double Attack makes up for it.

MNK/WAR is the way to go, unless you are farming.

seems however many times you say war sub ain't ment for tanking ppl don't liston...

I just started levelling Monk again (left it at level 30), and Monk/Warrior is the way to go for sure. Even at level 30 I'm doing the most melee damage in the party, gaining TP quick, etc.... Lots of people think /War is for tanking (look at the Ninja forum....), but /War also does the best damage over time...

Honestly, I don't think that WAR is that much better. Even though the STR boosts from WAR far outweigh the pitiful DEX boost from THF, even though with WAR you get Zerk and DoubleAttack, and "all you get" is SNK/Trick with THF... ???

Sneak attack is awesome when stacked with a WS. True that it only criticals the first hit, which makes it less effective on many of our WSs, but it can do enough to almost make up for the lack of a WAR sub. (mainly from 30-50, after you get sneak but lack Double Attack-- unfortunately, some people will still want you to have voke at that point, so :\ on them)

WAR is still by far the better sub until you get Dragon Kick and Trick, but at that point, THF is a safe way to go.

i would say i like both, more towards war thou..

focus+beserk, after a fight i get 180tp against a drk with 100tp using gsword. occasionally when double attack kicks in on yer ws it'll go up to 1000dmg but that's rare, common dmg range is bout 500-600. drk spinining slash with sneak trick and SE is bout 600-900, 1000 lightchain. There was a time 2 double attack kicked in and i did a 1200 dragon kick, Mr Ass meets Mr Rape.

thf sub, from my experience with another thf sub mnk, the tp gain ratio is bout 1.5:1, but in exchange they get to do consistent dmg on ws, sneak trick dragon does about 600-700, doesnt go any higher since they lack the attack and str.

my equipment are solely based on acc and atk

i got +40 atk & +32 accuracy.

MNK/WAR if you have a THF in the party. I don't care if WAR LOWERED your attack a few points, the extra damage done by Fuidama (which can only be done with the help of your provoke) will more than make up for any deficiencies the WAR sub might have.

That said, WAR sub doesn't really have any deficiencies. It is a pure melee-enhancing job, save for the defense bonus. You'll do higher damage per slash, you'll get the occasional double attack, you'll have Berserk for about 3 out of every 5 minutes. These combined easily outweigh the 1 guaranteed critical every minute.

As for sneak + ws'ing, it does add some damage to the attack, but I can't say that it's enough to make it better than WAR sub.

THF sub is indeed a support job of circumstance...
without it, there's little difference in most situations...and you'll be missing some crucial active/passive abilities, like passive attack/defence bonuses, berserk, defender,chouhatsu
...
with it, against certain enemies...especially skeletons...you won't see as high a frequency of 1000+ dmg WS/renkeis anywhere else...

I think at level 60+ it's a good idea to keep both warrior and thief subjobs leveled, so you can pick one depending on the party members and whether they are having any aggro control problems. Before that level warrior is the best subjob.

It's true that it's good to have both leveled. A Monk/Warrior will do more damage overall, but Monk/Thief will be very useful in controlling hate, and your WS will do more with Sneak/Trick. I personally don't like to sub thief, there's plenty of other suckers to do that.

I'm using MNK/THF right now, and it's kind of tiring (although I'm a lot more useful than I used to be (although I'm just at 20.) I was thinking of going /WAR for a while, at least until 30 when I can use Sneak Attack with a Monk. But if you guys claim it's still not worth it until 60, maybe I'll stick it out a lot longer.

Mnk/war or Mnk/Thf

Monk/War = Best at any levels

Monk/Thf = Helpfull at Level 60 for SA+TA, higher WS damage on bones to do Light renkei.
